Omar and Andy look to have put together another competitive draft class that addressed needs and got BPA in middle rounds. Are you surprised they aren't concerned with the possibility of having another 1st rounder miss time due to injury. Having a partially torn rotator cuff for years now, I know it's painful to deal with.  Can't imagine trying to play in the NFL with one.
Gerry Dulac
10:58
They did not take the best player available in the middle rounds, they took players for the positions that needed it. nd you're talking about who....????
Ron

  1. If Roger’s doesn’t sign & Howard looks better than Mason in pre-season why not go with Howard because we know what Masons ceiling is & with Howard maybe we have our qb of the future
Gerry Dulac

Not happening

Hi Gerry,  I kind of did not believe the whole Bears calling about Tomlin to be their head coach thing. It seems like their target was Ben Johnson all along. Did they really inquire and any idea what they offered?  If they did call and Rooney did not even listen he is a fool.
Gerry Dulac
10:59
Don't know, don't care, and Rooney wouldn't listen anyway. I'm sure it never got to him

If the Rodgers plan doesn't pan out, is the backup plan to sign Wentz, have Rudolph in the pole position and let them compete? Any reason not to sign Wentz now if that's what they're thinking?  It's short dead money if they need to dump him.
Gerry Dulac
11:00
The backup plan is to sign another veteran QB. The Steelers always have two QBs on the roster with starting experience

Hello . Thank you as always for the chat . Steelers failed to address the depth at OT and Guard position in the draft . It might have been better to select a OL instead of LB on day 3 of the draft . Right now , who do you see as the back ups at the OT and the guard positions on the current roster ? Thank you
Gerry Dulac
11:00
The last thing they needed in the draft was OL and I think they proved that

Good morning Mr. Dulac. I hope your day is going well. I don't understand the long range plan at QB. If the goal is to find our franchise QB in 2026, why are we even flirting with Aaron Rodgers.  Doesn't it make sense to finally see what Mason can do when given a full year?   And if we find out Mason isn't the answer then we pivot to Howard?  And if neither are the answer then likely our record would be such that we would get a high draft pick to get a top QB.
Gerry Dulac

For this year. There is a season to be had, you know, and the Steelers aren't planning to give up and skip to 2026

Good morning Mr. Dulac, you said before the draft that the Steelers had a 1st round grade on Jaxson Dart. Did they have a similar grade on Sanders? If yes, does the Steelers passing on him several times imply that the lone story about his disastrous Steelers pre-draft interview was in fact the correct one?
Gerry Dulac
11:02
Honestly, I don't think if they had a first-round grade on Sanders. But, to your question, the entire NFL thought the same thing about Sanders, not just the Steelers

Mr Dulac.  In looking at the haul of draft capital the browns received for moving back 3 spots, and the trade packages from moving into the later picks of the first round, I don't know that a few comps picks we receive next year will even touch the trade requirement needed move into the top 10 picks of the draft.   If Rodgers isn't going to get us to the Super Bowl, but just to the playoffs again, is it worth it?  If we are stuck again with pick 21 or later, the trade packages needed to move up next year is going to be significant.
Gerry Dulac
11:03
Stay tuned. More to come. Plenty of time to make moves.

Hi Gerry, knowing what you knew going into the draft, would you have been surprised if they took Sanders at any point?  In other words, did you know he was basically not on their board at all?
Gerry Dulac
11:04
Yes I would. The moment Tomlin talked about Sanders in a pre-draft press conference two days before the draft only reinforced that. The Steelers never talk about draft prospects, especially ones that interest them. If Tomlin was seriously interested in him, he would have never gone into detail about his measurables and toughness.

As an exercise in fantasy, how good would Mason Rudolph (or Will Howard) have to be this year to avoid all the QB draft hype next year? 17-0?
Gerry Dulac
11:05
Super Bowl.

Reports coming out after the draft about how teams were in talks with the Steelers regarding Pickens one of them getting the most attention was Dallas. They claim the trade is dead, but Dallas didn't pick a single WR with their 9 picks. Is there any fire there still or is it just smoke?
Gerry Dulac
11:05
Why would the Steelers want to trade him now, unless the Cowboys are offering a No. 1 pick, and I seriously doubt that?

I just want to thank you for your quality Steelers coverage. It is reliable, thoughtful, and fact based, even if it is not always popular among the fans, as evidenced by your accurate draft predictions.

OK, now I really have to pay the man!!

Congrats, Gerry.  They finally listened to you after several years of ignoring the DL need and now they are better off for it. Since they typically keep 6 and Heyward, Benton, Harmon and Black are probably locks, who are favorites for securing the other 2 spots.  Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
11:08
Probably Leal and see what you have in last year's sixth-round pick, Logan Lee. They've given Loudermilk enough time to prove himself

Does the $30K bonus guarantee UDFA DJ Thomas-Jones makes the team? Replacing Heyward? Lat year they signed UDFA QB John Rhys Plumlee for $35K. What for?
Gerry Dulac

Not at all.

Mr Dulac.  Can you explain to me the media love from the so called draft experts (one in particular) over a certain QB?   I guess we should be glad that Omar, Andy and Mr Rooney are running our draft boards and not the draft experts who would have traded away many assets to get  a QB that was picked in Round 5!

Mr.Dulac, you had a lot of fun and got some mileage too out of my 1st round Carolina safety pick, I admit my mistake and agree with Harmon as the best pick but take note of Starks going six picks later to who else the Ravens, so here's a prediction, Hamilton and Starks will torment whoever ends up as Steelers QB for years to come, also the safety from Carolina went to Seattle I believe in the 2nd round so ex Raven Mcdonald will have the last word.
Gerry Dulac

Emmanwori a Ravens-type player. Steelers-type too. They loved him but had more pressing needs. So next time someone wants to advance this nonsense about the Steelers taking the best player available, this is just another example they do not

Would they consider bringing in a QB specialist to help Arth develop Howard? If Rodgers doesn't sign, Arth's focus could be more on getting Rudolph ready and Howard may benefit from having someone working with him more.
Gerry Dulac
11:10
They have one -- Arth

The Steelers finally listened to you and addressed the DL in the draft. Other than QB, what positions should they be looking at next year?
Gerry Dulac
11:11
Next year Tom? I'm still worn out from this year

11:11
Just for a fantasy, how good would Mason Rudolph or Will Howard have to play this year to settle the QB questions and avoid the QB draft insanity next year. 14-3? 13-4? 17-0? Win one playoff game? Two playoff games? Is it even possible? Give us a tiny sliver of hope that we won't have to go through it all again next year.
Gerry Dulac
11:12
Sadly, that beard might get a little more gray next year cause I think you might see it all over again.
