I think you were over-evaluating the position if you thought that. And Connor Heyward is not a TE, but he is a ballplayer. Freiermuth's concussion "history," as you call it, had nothing to do with the pick. Washington's size and ability had everything to do with the pick. To me, he can be the player who elevates the draft class to another level.

I guess with JPJ choosing #24, that's the end of Benny Snell?
Gerry Dulac
10:42
I suppose

Now that FA and the draft are mostly done, do you expect any positions to be added to via trades or signings prior to camp?
Gerry Dulac
10:42
QB for one. But, if there is, don't think it will be anything until after OTAs and before camp, once they see where they are

Read some Nick Herbig to Sutton Smith comparisons, might be a racial component there, but was wondering your thoughts?  (I had to look back and see Smith was MAC player of the year his last year in college, just like Ben was).
Gerry Dulac
10:43
Different players. I don't make that comparison.

Do we know if the Steelers will have any international games this year? Given the strength of their brand I am surprised they aren't given one of those games more frequently.
Gerry Dulac
10:43
None this year. They have been told that

Hello. Thank you as always for the chat. I agree with you that Omar khan has hit a home run, more like a Grand Slam, and Weidl has a big hand in it. Hopefully, they will give Weidl enough title and money that he will not leave us in a year or two. I am a big fan of Colbert but my only gripe was  an obligatory 2nd round pick on WR.  One thing that did not get addressed is ILB. Holcomb is recovering from injury and there is no reliable, experienced back up. Do you think that they need to get someone before the training camp for it to be not  an Achilles heal ? Thank you very much.
Gerry Dulac
10:45
They believe Holcomb will be ready for the season, but they will still go lightly with him until them. As for Andy Weidl, he sets the draft board and, from all indications, did a great job.

Hi Gerry, enjoy your chats and articles always. Can Benton start at NT. Who do you think will start at slot CB?
Gerry Dulac
10:46
I don't think he will start there. I think it will be Fehoko. But he will get every chance to play -- second-round draft picks usually do. The slot corner will still be a debate, but I think they signed Chandon Sullivan to be that guy. We'll see

Any further discussion on keeping a 3rd QB on the active game day roster?
Gerry Dulac
10:47
You mean from the league or the Steelers? Either way, no.

Is Kendrick Green a lost cause?
Gerry Dulac
10:47
It appears so

Hi Gerry do you think the Steelers will resign Mason Rudolph for QB3 ?
Gerry Dulac
10:47
Nope, though they would probably love to and it would be a great move

Your thoughts on Benton's role early on? Will he only play in base (which they dont play much) and come out in sub packages? Thanks for the chats.
Gerry Dulac

Second-round picks get a lot of looks

Do you believe Andy Russell,L.C.Greenwood and Jon Kolb will be inducted into the HOF ever??/
Gerry Dulac
10:48
It's a shame L.C. hasn't been inducted

Good morning Gerry.  I am, as are most Steelers fans, very happy with the players drafted by them per the 2023 draft. I think it is one of the best draft classes in years.  How far back would we have to go to see one better? Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
10:48
We'll find out, but I agree -- it has a chance to be as good a draft as they've had in a long time
Chad
10:48
Hi Gerry I heard Darnell Washington slid in the draft because of knee issues?
Gerry Dulac
10:49
There is some truth to that, but not bad enough for the Steelers to select him in the third round

Hello Gerry: There are several potential cuts wherein the talent/depth loss may be considered be minimal and the Steelers would gain, say, around up to 12m in cap space or so. Do you think they'd wait to see who other teams cut, down the line, to use that cap money, or do you think some of these guys (Witherspoon, Dotson, Killibrew, Adams, Oszlewski, etc....)  will get released sooner?
Gerry Dulac
10:50
Probably a little of both. I don't think Killebrew is going anywhere

Thank you for the forum Gerry. Do you for see any Steelers coaching staff additions similar to the Sr. Defensive assistant created for Flores last year  before training camp?
Jim_Bow_Dean
10:50
The Steelers website lists Nick Herbig at 228 pounds? Is that right?
Gerry Dulac
10:51
He was 240 at the combine, so I'm sure that's a mistake.

Is this roster long-term answers at C, ILB, and S to pair with Minkah away from being really solid?

Hey Gerry, thanks for the chats. Is it me or is this the first time in a long while since roster spots have been this competitive?
Gerry Dulac
10:51
Actually, I think all their roster spots are set, at least 50 of them

Gerry, has Coach Tomlin ever indicated any time frame for his retirement  ? Who in your opinion would be the best candidate to pursue as a successor when he decides to step down  ?
Gerry Dulac
10:52
He has not. But haven't even thought who would be a successor. I will tell you, though, it won't be an internal candidate. Never has been
OK kids, that's all the time we have today. Gotta run. Good questions.
