OL -- Green or Dotson. TE -- Gentry possibly, but not certain of that. DL -- Nobody of significance. I count seven DL to keep on the roster, If it's six, then Montravius Adams

Gerry, Thanks, as always, for the chats.  Trice's highlights look good.  He's big!  And by the numbers, his speed and quickness are solid.  What gives?  Limited need/use for press corners in the NFL?
Gerry Dulac
10:15
According to the scouts, he's not real great in coverage beyond the line of scrimmage. He's big and fast, so that's not the issue. And he apparently excels in press coverage. It's what happens after that. We'll see if they're correct

What specifically about Mason Rudolph’s game caused the Steelers to sign Mitch Trubisky and got Mason demoted? Why were the Steelers down on Mason and why is he still unsigned?
Gerry Dulac
10:17
They thought they could do better than Mason and wanted someone more mobile, which is why they signed Trubisky. Once they do that, Mason didn't stand a chance, even though he looked very good in camp and the preseason despite playing with the second- and third-team

10:17
They have 3 games in the western time zone. Could they ask the league to schedule 2 of those games back to back to save a trip?
Gerry Dulac
10:17
No they can't. But it's a good idea to do that if so
Johnny Sins
10:17
Who will be the Steelers nickel slot corner in pass defense situations?
Gerry Dulac
10:18
As of right now, the guy they just signed -- Chandon Sullivan.

Gerry, Here's one you have probably already addressed, but I'll toss it out there: If the Steelers resign Sutton, does Porter become a Steeler?
Gerry Dulac
10:19
Good question, but moot point. But, if Porter is there at 32 in your scenario, yes they do!!

10:19
Gerry, following the draft do you see the Steelers looking to add any additions in free agency or via trade to the linebackers? Specifically inside LB's?
Gerry Dulac
10:20
Nope. They're done, barring an injury
Sara Jay
10:20
Gerry, what was it about Joey Porter Jr that made the Steelers think he wasn’t worth drafting in the 1st round?
Gerry Dulac
10:22
Well, he effectively was drafted in the first round, at No. 32. But, according to the grades they have on players, they liked Broderick Jones better at 14, even 17. They had a first-round grade on Porter, just not that high. But that's why they loved him at No. 32.

Good morning, Gerry. Everyone agrees that it's now up to Matt Canada to make this thing go. We don't know what the schedule is yet and I know how the team does not like to make in-season changes, but how many weeks will he get to show that the team is better offensively and that the late-season improvement is sustainable?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
That's what we're going to find out. Biggest question of the year!! I know one thing: one bad game, maybe one bad series, and the wolves will be howling.

Hi Gerry. I'm really intrigued by the 7th round corner, Trice. Do you think if he shows anything in camp but he may be a little behind one of the vet CBs the Steelers will choose to keep him on the 53 and release a vet? If he shows he's healthy I believe he won't make it to the practice squad.
Gerry Dulac
10:24
There is a good chance of that, especially if he shows well in camp. He has all the measurables for sure.
Bill
10:24
Why do you think the Raiders moved on from Derek Carr, and is Jimmy G really an upgrade?
Gerry Dulac
10:26
I'm not around them to insightfully answer that question, but I guess they figured they gave Carr 5 years to show something  and prove he can take them to the playoffs on a regular basis and he didn't. And, no, I'm not sure Jimmy G is an upgrade.

I think 2 big reasons why the Steelers were able to get both Jones and Porter was 2 running backs going early and Banks and Forbes being picked before Porter. Which was more surprising to you? Thank you
Gerry Dulac
10:27
A little of both. Two RBs in the first round hasn't happened in a few years. But Forbes in the first round I don't get. He's 166 pounds. How will be survive in the NFL? I don't care how good Washington's front line is.

An ILB depth chart or Holcomb, Roberts, and Robinson is uninspiring. Do the Steelers have designs on Robinson entering the starting line-up next to Holcomb? Do you think they bring Jack back into the fold for depth?
Gerry Dulac
10:29
No Jack. But Robinson will get a big look to see how much he has learned in year 2. Roberts is just a one-year stop gap who could be ousted as a starter if Robinson makes that jump. He certainly looked good in his limited appearances last year.

The Steelers did a great job with the draft - it seems everyone agrees. But so much of it depends on how many picks a team has and where they select (meaning past trades and performance affect it greatly). For example, I think the porter jr pick is what made this a great draft. But that was an added pick they got through trade. Obviously if a team trades several players and gets multiple extra picks, their draft is going to be better than other teams who did not get extra picks. So the question - how do you rate the Steelers draft taking away the porter jr pick (ie comparing to prior KC drafts where he did not have an extra #32 pick)?
Gerry Dulac
10:32
I don't rate drafts based on picks they might not have had. I rate them on the players they take with the picks they have. Part of what made the Steelers draft so good is just not the players they picked up. It's the maneuvering they did to get what they got -- trading Claypool for that second-round pick, snookering the Jets to trade up and get Jones, moving down 13 spots in the third round to get back the 4th-round pick they used to move up in the first round and still get Darnell Washington. Their maneuvering is what this draft every bit as good as they players they received.

Hey Gerry! Thanks for the chats. What are the biggest holes left on the team? Im not convinced the ILBs we have are better than what we had last year. I feel like we should expect another late off season signing (I.e Haden, etc.)
Gerry Dulac
10:34
We shall see what happens at ILB. I like Holcomb. I think Roberts is a solid veteran. But Robinson could make a big difference, if he's ready. I certainly don't think it's a Pro Bowl unit. And they will miss Spillane's steadiness. Not sure, though, you will see another signing. They're done there in all likelihood, unless there is an injury

So what do you know about Washington's knees?   Are they good?   Is there a real issue there?   Rumors are flying, some say he is a 10 year guy, others act like his career is over.
Gerry Dulac
10:36
The Steelers did their due diligence with his medical outlook, so I doubt his career is over. And anyone who says that has absolutely NO IDEA what's going on with Washington.

Will it be a real competition between Jones and Moore to start at LT? Or, like the QB “competition” last camp, will the staff say it’s a competition but essentially hand Jones the job?
Gerry Dulac
10:38
Basically, yes. Don't know how long it will take, but it's only a matter of time, like it was with Pickett. They didn't draft him at No. 14 to sit him on the bench

I love the Lamar Jackson's contract. No money for the rest of the team, injury prone, and his postseason record is unimpressive... am I crazy?
Gerry Dulac
10:38
Nope

10:39
Hi Jerry, it feels like the Steelers are still an ILB or two short of a great defense. Do they feel Mark Robinson is ready to be that piece?
Gerry Dulac
10:39
Gee, haven't had an ILB question in weeks. Andrew, check previous answers. Thnx

10:39
Good morning Gerry. I have to believe ever Steeler fan has to be pleased and optimistic about the draft. The team will go to ball control, good defense. Yes its a QB driven league, but at this point it seems logical to compete with them

Those who aren't will never be satisfied.

I thought the Steelers TE situation was in pretty good shape so I was surprised they picked a TE. Gentry has developed into a capable backup. I’m not sure where Heyward fits in but he’s definitely a keeper. I see you like the Washington pick. Do you think Freiermuth’s concussion history was a factor or was the value for Washington at that point too good to pass up?
