Hello. thank you as always for the chat. Do you think that Steelers will bring back Steve Nelson or any other cornerback since they did not select one till 7th round and the one they project as safety?  They do not have any proven nickel corner and if they move Sutton to nickel spot , than no proven outside corner.  Thank you very much.
Gerry Dulac
11:22
I don't think they will bring back Nelson because 1) I don't imagine he would want to return after being dumped, and 2) another team will sign him soon because he is a good player.

Good morning Gerry.  Not a Steelers question.....may add one after, but what has happened to Lefty?  I haven't seen his name on the tournament players scores lists., either the PGA or "other" one.
Gerry Dulac
11:23
He made the cut last week at Valspar. And he only plays in a couple Champions Tour events to keep his game ready for a major.

Gerry- If Ben wanted to come back in 2022, how do you think the Mason Rudolph extension would play into that?
Gerry Dulac
11:26
Well, after what he saw this offseason, it may not be up to Ben to decide if he comes back in 2022. And it would have no effect on Rudolph's extension, which is only good through 2022. If anything, it might give them cause to give him another one-year extension through 2023.

with the new draft picks in , I’m all in and love that hopefully we could go to the old school pound the ball . Do you see more play action and motions or do you feel Ben will refuse this style
Gerry Dulac
11:26
Ben will not refuse this style.

Gerry- now that the dust is settling- what do we have left cap wise, love our post draft pick ups- do you think any can stick? If not and are there any affordable potential free agents out there that can help us?
Gerry Dulac
11:27
I think Shakur Brown, the CB from Michigan State, has a chance to stick

11:27
So is Presley Harvin the Punter, Emergency QB and Emergency short yardage back?

I love the draft picks , I want the Steelers to go to the ground and pound old school coming at ya .. also more motions and play action to confuse defenses , do you believe Ben will allow this or be hesitant to it as everybody believes

See above answer

What with the analysts thinking it was a bad idea picking Najee over a lineman? This draft was much deeper with lineman than it was with starting caliber RB's what good would drafting a lineman first do if we didn't have a starting caliber RB?
Gerry Dulac
11:28
More proof those analysts have no clue what they're talking about and no idea what the Steelers are thinking.

Do you like the Freiermuth/Green picks or do you believe the Steelers will look back at the end of this season (since they are all in now) and regret not taking a top tier center such as Myers or Humphrey in RD2?
Gerry Dulac
11:29
I like em a lot. And I wouldn't call Myers a top-tier center. The only top-tier center in the draft was Landon Dickerson, and he dropped because of his injury history

Gerry, do you think that HC Mike Tomlin should quit calling the D plays (he has a DC) or be directed to by Art Rooney, or do you think that calling the D plays does not hinder his performing this real "head coaching" game day duties.  Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
11:31
We see other head coaches call the signals, whether offense or defense. I don't think it's a big deal. But I also think a head coach should have a little more trust in his coordinators

Draft ratings are absurd.  The people making a living on them have only an opinion like i do.  Three years out is what matters.  I , like you, felt colbert and crew did what they said, make us better than we were before the draft.

Gerry from what I've read about our draft from "actual people that know them and watched them play" it could be a very impressive draft. Agree or not ?
Gerry Dulac
11:32
Well the "could be" part is what we will discover. Yes, it could be. I have no issue with any of the first four-round picks and I love the punter pick.

Is Vince Williams back as the starter or is it Spillane’s job. Also, Buddy Johnson looks like a very good pick how is his coverage skills ?
Gerry Dulac
11:33
It is not Spillane's job. He is a backup. And his coverage skills are better than Williams and Spillane

Seems some Steeler fans would be happier if they had reached a bit by taking Green in rd 2, painting him as a nasty center with upside, and then draft Freiermuth in rd 3 as an unbelievable steal.....
Gerry Dulac
11:34
Yeah, if Freiermuth would be available in round 3, which he wouldn't be. Ridiculous

Gerry, there was a lot of post-draft scuttle about how the Steelers are going into next year without addressing their line enough, but factoring in injuries, Covid, etc. last year, Decastro will be the only regular starter returning to his position, right?  I say give the new lineup a chancer under new coaching and schemes.
Gerry Dulac
11:35
That is correct, unless you count Banner playing three quarters at RT in the 2020 season opener.

Maybe in a year or two Heinz Field will be echoing to "Muuutthh" like it did for 83 back in the day. What do you think?
Gerry Dulac
11:36
I think he is a big-time tight end, can block and catch.
Avoid Lloyd
11:36
With the CB position thin do you think the Steelers will add a veteran?  Possible Nelson?
Gerry Dulac
11:36
Possibly, but I don't see it being Nelson for the reasons I stated above
Scott
11:37
Some are saying the Steelers will try to extend Edmunds for a number less than the 5th year option.  My question is why? Is there any aspect of the job that he excels in? He seems average to below average across the spectrum of his job requirements.
Gerry Dulac
11:37
It's possible they can still re-sign him even after they elected not to pick up his option.

11:38
I think if we establish a running game Ben can play a few more years.  The first seven games last season was a snap shot of that.  Your thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:38
Until I see otherwise, I don't doubt Ben has more than one year left in him.
Justin
11:39
I know the Steelers don't comment on players they don't draft...but do you have any knowledge if Landon Dickerson was even on their board with his injury history?
Gerry Dulac
11:39
He was not. At least, not in the first two rounds.
