What have you heard about Justin Layne's improving?  Just curious because it seems were are pretty thin there already and with Edmunds maybe leaving after this year we might need a large secondary infusion in draft, much less just CB, and I know thats your fav route with the way we have picked there lately.
Gerry Dulac
11:40
They won't know anything about Layne until they get to camp and preseason games. That is their hope -- he improves

Hello. Thank you as always for the chat. Do you think that Steelers will bring back Steve Nelson or another corner since they did not select one till 7th round and the one who they project as safety ?  They do not have any proven nickel corner and if they move Sutton to nickel spot, than no proven outside corner. Thank you very much.

I like the Steelers draft rersults, do not love taking TE over C with second round pick.  My guess Creed Humphrey, Josh Myers, Landon Dickerson, any of these three could have been the 2021 starting center had they prioritized C with pick 55.  How do you think Steelers had these three ranked on their depth charts?  At least Kendrick Green has the Big Ten pedigree the Steelers covet.
Gerry Dulac
11:42
I can tell you Myers was not among their top 4. Dickerson was, of course, but they weren't going there in the first two rounds because of his injury history. I have no problem with the player they picked to play center. I like it as much, if not more, than any other center they would have drafted.

Gerry, any Joe Hadens out there, good veteran defensive backs who might be available soon?
Gerry Dulac
11:42
I think there are a lot of good veteran players sitting out there who haven't been signed yet because of the flattened salary-cap
Avoid Lloyd
11:43
I noticed the Raiders are releasing Jeff Heath.  Do you think he would be a good pick up as the 3rd safety?
Gerry Dulac
11:44
I'm sure he would be.

Not a question...just a comment...thanks for your names you said to follow before the draft.  Good insight.  Thank you

Hit three of em -- Harris, Freiermuth and Harvin
GM

Morning Gerry, sure we'll add FA/vet depth at various positions right?  A guy like Harris would benefit greatly from AP on the team... (at the right price of course)
Gerry Dulac
11:48
You will not see a veteran RB added to this team.

Gerry!  Where can I get a Najee Harris bobblehead?
Gerry Dulac
11:50
At the Bobblehead Store, of course

In your opinion, which is dumber and a bigger waste of time, a mock draft or rating a team’s picks a day after the draft?
Gerry Dulac
11:51
Do you really want me to answer that? It is dumb and a waste of time only if the people who seemingly eat that stuff up would think it's dumb and a waste of time.
Just a fan

Any insight as to who Troy will have as his presenter for HOF award?
Gerry Dulac
11:52
Hines maybe. Keisel. LeBeau. Ryan Clark

I will

Kiper gave Steelers a bad draft grade in large part because they selected a back in round 1 and, as he stated, good backs can be found in later rounds. Apparently he isn’t aware that the Steelers have tried to get backs in later rounds nearly every year for the past 5 years with no luck. Did you like the Harris pick?
Gerry Dulac
11:54
Yes I did, a whole lot more than I like what Kiper has to say. Ever
CT Steeler
11:54
Outie of the Steelers, do you have any favorite pick by a team in the draft that stands out?
Gerry Dulac
11:55
Not really. I think the Bears trading up to get the second best QB in the draft was the best move
GM
11:55
Biggest "project" of the draft?
Gerry Dulac
11:56
They didn't draft any projects that I could see. They took a lot of seniors who had a lot of college starts. No one-hit wonders.

Gerry, towards the end of last season the receivers had bad cases of the drops.  No wr's were drafted which makes me believe the coaches are confident the problem can be fixed with a new scheme and Ike Hilliard.  I have my doubts.  Do you think they should have brought in a vet wr for leadership competition?
Gerry Dulac
11:57
No, drafting a wide receiver would have been a waste with all the other offensive holes they wanted to fill. Drops are going to happen, especially when you throw the ball a lot.

I think Najee is a transformational running back...if he can remain healthy. But Ben needs to be under center more than not...do you agree?
Gerry Dulac
11:58
That's what everyone says. I've had other NFL offensive coordinators tell me that's not a big deal. The bigger question is whether Harris is better with a running start with QB under center or is fine taking a handoff with no running start with QB in shotgun? That's all that matter

Gerry is Marcus Allen done as a safety or still an option?
Gerry Dulac
11:58
Yes. He is an ILB

Hi Gerry:  Luv your chats.  In my view the Steelers were really horrible, cost them games last year, on third or fourth and 1.  Are they a better team after free agency and the draft now on third or fourth and 1??  Basically, the O Line change is Green? for Pouncey, Banner for Villanueva, and Chuks R to L.  Is that plus Najee Harris enough improvement from terrible?
Gerry Dulac
11:59
It's not always the players, it's the schemes and formations. They are changing all that, so we shall see.
Ok, now we're out of time. Thanx for the questions.
