Hey Gerry, Stephen A. Smith was on First Take this morning making the case for the Steelers to sign Dez Bryant to play in the slot and provide a safety valve for Ben between the numbers. Is this as terrible of a take as it sounds? I can’t envision a world where anyone on the South Side thinks that’s a good idea.

The rumors of a Tomlin extension: I don't think it should surprise anyone considering the team's history, but does the fact that we're farther away from the end of the season gloss over the disappointments of him and his staff, on and off the field last year and frankly, the year before? Thanks.

That's really all it is. Get the new guys slowly acclimated to the system and playbook and see how they respond. Otherwise, nothing.

No, on the two-back stuff. And they always use a lot of three- and four-wide stuff.

How do you see the offensive philosophy changing with the loss of AB? It seems that the offense has opened up the past several seasons, but could a more methodical pace help in the long run?

Nope. They will execute their offense the way they always do and just use different personnel now to do it. Oh, they could have a minor change somewhere, but that comes w every season.

The head coach is always to blame. And, as I've reminded several times, Mike Tomlin is very involved in this defense -- from the game-plan to the play-calling

Do you think Barron and Bush will be on the field much at the same time other than when Barron is dime defender?

Well, they play their sub-package defenses 75 percent of the time, so I think you will see them on the field a lot together. They didn't bring Barron in to sit him on the bench. How they use him and Bush is one of the things they will figure out in OTAs, minicamp and training camp.

Buggs, Smith, Johnson, and now Snell signed. Understanding it is easier to sign guys now. But does it seem they are signing a little earlier this year? Like the Steelers are sending a message that we mean business this year? Or reading too much into it...

Nope. You're right. It's the reason the Steelers are glad to be rid of him and why the Raiders will be sorry they signed him in a short amount of time.
