Is it true the Steelers request to have back to back West Coast games so they can stay out their rather than return to Pittsburgh? Any idea if they requested it this year with road games in LA, Sea, Vegas?
Gerry Dulac
10:08
Not sure who said that
Bill
10:08
Do you think Mitch Trubisky will be extended beyond this year? If not, why should they keep a $ 8 million back up QB?
Gerry Dulac
10:09
No, because he will want to go somewhere where he might have a better chance of playing

Hi Gerry, and thanks for the chats. Something I've always been curious about--how much salary does the average practice squad player make?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
A player with two or fewer accrued seasons makes $11,500 a week, which equates to $207,000 per year, based on 18 weeks. Players with two or more accrued seasons make $277,000 in an 18-game season ($15.400/week).

Hello Gerry.  Do you know what Coach Olsavsky is doing since he is no longer with the Steelers?  Thank you Gerry.
Gerry Dulac
10:12
As of right now, nothing that I know of.

Lots of good competition for roster spots this year - sadly Matt Canada is still our Weakest Link - correct?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
Matt Canada is the Biggest Question Mark.
MTScott
10:12
Do you think a roster spot is still available for Gentry?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
Yes.

Hi Gerry, If Joey Porter Jr.'s INT total was set at 1.5, are you under or over?  I am leaning over because he is going to be tested as a rookie, but the question is how many snaps will he get.
Gerry Dulac
10:13
Oh, don't worry -- as the No. 1 pick he will get PLENTY of snaps. And I agree - over 1.5

Gerry, Of course it's premature to predict the season's outcome, but isn't it sensible to conclude the Steelers are at least one victory better than last year, if not more?  So what's your early take?
Gerry Dulac
10:13
I'm with ya 100 percent

I’m excited about the other CB Trice - I think he’ll play with a true edge for being overlooked until 7th round.
Gerry Dulac
10:15
We'll see, but he is very intriguing for sure because of his size and speed. I'll judge the "edge" once he gets on the field against the vets

Gerry, greetings from Florida.  I don’t love the Steelers depth at wide receiver.  Diontae & Pickens are basically two #2s by NFL standards, and who knows about Robinson and Austin?  How do you feel about the WRs?
Gerry Dulac
10:16
A little bit better than you

Thanks for the chats Gerry.  Dumb question but when people talk about D lineman having good 3 point or 4 point technique what are they talking about and how do you see Benton contributing
Gerry Dulac
10:23
Not dumb at all -- a "technique" is used to describe a pre-snap alignment. For example, Cam Heyward is a 3-technique, which means he is likely to line on the opposite shoulder of the guard, closer to tackle. If Heyward lines directly on the tackle, that is a 4-technique. A 5-technique is used to describe the defensive end who lines on the outside shoulder of the weakside offensive tackle. Benton will be mostly a 3-technique or a 1-technique, which is a nose tackle. Got it??? I'll quiz you later

Any insider story on what trade options were available or rejected for the Porter pick?  Nothing but curiosity on my part, but the amount of time available to wheel and deal for that pick had me thinking that a surprise might be actually picking Porter.
Gerry Dulac
10:24
I don't have any, but all I can tell you is the Steelers loved getting Porter at 32, which is why they turned down every offer made to them to trade that pick. Mike Tomlin told me "that was an easy one."

Hi Gerry.  Love the chats, keep up the good work!  So, we had what many consider to be a great draft.  Between the free agent signings and the haul we had via the draft, some so called "experts" expect the Steelers to become a smash mouth running team.
Gerry Dulac
10:25
They're not going to become that, but there is no question they want to do that when necessary.

10:25
It’s obvious they want the run game to be the foundation of the offense. Will they ever use play action more? I know Ben didn’t like it and maybe you don’t want to put too much on rookie, but they need to use it a lot more in my opinion.
Gerry Dulac
10:27
Their intent is to use play-action a lot. Ben didn't use it a lot because as he got older he lined in the shotgun more. Also, when a QB lines in the shotgun, he has an easier time reading the defense as opposed to turning your back to fake a handoff from under center.

I heard the Heinz ketchup is back? Will it still tilt & pour "ketchup"? (thought you'd appreciate a creative question)
Gerry Dulac
10:28
It is back, but not as big. And I don't know if it will "pour."

Hi Gerry, which playoff team from last year would you like to see the Steelers open the season against, to get a good evaluation of what to expect from them? How about Jacksonville?
Gerry Dulac
10:28
That's a good one.
Patrick
10:29
Hi Gerry.  Thanks for the chats. I want your opinion on the front office continuing to not address the ILB position with young talent in the draft since Shazier.  I doubt the free agents will address the need to cover TEs and RBs.  Will they employ a different scheme?  If they do not, all opposing teams will pass every time they see Roberts and Holcomb in the middle.
Gerry Dulac
10:31
Well, I know I don't have to remind you (or maybe I do) they traded up 10 spots in 2019 to draft Devin Bush at No. 10 overall. Finding those Shazier-type players isn't easy.

Hi Gerry!  Thank you for your time!  B. Jones vs. D. Moore Jr. question.  I read A. Bittner's q&a about B. Jones stating solid pass blocking, good run blocking in space but needs experience to run block in the box.  Conversely, D. Moore Jr.'s run blocking looked good the last 9 games but pass blocking and penalties are his bugaboo.  Who do you think will correct the deficiencies first and plays the most games this year?  Thanks Much!
Gerry Dulac
10:31
Broderick Jones is a No. 1 pick. They aren't bringing him in sit on the bench.
10:32
By the way, I referred earlier to Joey Porter Jr. as a No. 1 pick. He only seems like one because he was drafted at 32.

Good Morning Gerry.  Just want to say that despite various degrees of disappointment in their steelers' careers, Mason R and James W were great teammates and true professionals on and off the field.
Gerry Dulac
10:32
Yes they were.
Bob Prince was the best

Thanks for the forum Gerry, two local athletic icons in Pittsburgh passed away last  week.  Herb Douglas and Dick Groat were great athletes and even better people. These men exemplified how to handle their fame and maintain their humility.  Do you have any stories or memories you could share about these icons  ?
