I didn't know Herb Douglas at all. but I knew Dick Groat very well. Spent many many days and nights with him when I covered Pitt BB and would always go visit and stay w him at Champion Lakes during Steelers training camp. There isn't a more generous man anywhere than Dick Groat. RIP

Hi Gerry do you think the Steelers should have selected Jordan Addison and do you think the will hurt us not taking him….Because I don’t think Allen Robinson is that good

Not at all. Wasted pick

The Steelers took a QB on their final pick a D1 QB. He probably has no upside. Tyson Bagent was there who holds the all time record for TD passes of any QB in college history. He looks to have all the attributes to be successfull in the NFL by me who has no credibility in these matters. Did they not consider him because he was a D2 QB?

Uh.....who did they take?

Gerry thanks for the time and chat. Who needs to make the biggest improvement this season for the offense - Pickett, Pickens, Harris or Canada. Thanks

Hi Gerry!  Reemphasizing physicality is great!  What took so long for this recommitment b/c all parties involved seem more than enthusiastic about this rejuvenated culture?  Did ARII say enough is enough, is this what M. Tomlin always wanted and couldn't have?  What was the tipping point?  Thanks Much!

I think it was a joint venture, though I'm willing to give a great deal of persuasion to Andy Weidl

Gerry, is Matt Canada a horrible OC or has he been unfairly criticized? MT and KP seem to believe in him
Gerry Dulac
10:44
He gets one more year to prove both are not true. And then that's it

Morning Gerry.  What is the best case scenario with Matt Canada?  Can we see a top 15 offense?  How bad would this offense need to be for Tomlin to consider cutting him?
Gerry Dulac
10:44
His contract is up after 2023. He will have to prove he deserves another one

Gerry, the Steelers sound as if they want to intimidate their opponents on the LOS.  Which is nice but that's what every team wants to do that.  With the draft/free agent signings and keeping Canada, it looks more like they're going to a run first oriented offense to keep the other good QB's in the division off the field. Thoughts??
Gerry Dulac
10:45
I don't know if that's the thinking as much as they just want to be better along the line of scrimmage. I don't think that has anything to do with keeping Canada.

Hi gerry, i appreciate your responses. Certainly a thoughtful and wise draft and manuvering. Though, the last pick was so expected - Maryland. The Tomlin tie. It was like the decision makers, who were onto a solid looking draft said to him, "OK, get a kid from Maryland, now." There were 9 higher ranked guards than our 7b pick, who was near the bottom of rankings (NFL.COM). Did you, too, anticipate this. thanks.

hi Gerry. There is much optimism for the Steelers with all the moves made.  One question I have is in regards to the most important position in the nfl, QB. The optimism for Pickett seems to be based on a small sample size at the end of the year.  I also read from many experts that Pickett’s floor is high but his ceiling is low.   To that end have experts seen enough of Pickett to truly assess his potential and whether it truly translates to a “franchise winning QB”. Winning means making the playoffs and winning at least a game in the next 2 seasons.

Pickett killed it on stage at Acrisure with his country music buddies as he drained his Iron City beer.  The next Bobby Layne???

gerry, it was asked if we are one win or better team now post draft which you agreed with.  How many wins better are we with a capable offensive coordinator.

gary, regarding moving to an “old” model of Steelers ball control offense but needing to score quickly, aren’t we basically talking about the later 70s teams anyway ? Although most of the games were held close and competitive using run oriented offense, Bradshaw to swann or stallworth were always the sizzle scores that won games.  Pickett will still have to make clutch scoring throws to win games even if our run oriented, ball control offense keeps the games close / competitive with the afc teams that score at much higher velocity.

What do you think the Steelers are looking for in a 3rd string QB? Someone to mimic opposing QBs during practice? If so, does that mean someone who could pretend to both Lamar Jackson as well as a pocket passer? Someone to step into the QB2 role after Mitch leaves in a year? A developmental flyer?

Gerry, how good do you think the DT from Wisconsin we drafted is ? Does he start day one? Does he have the potential to be a tuitt or Heyward ?

Gerry how much money did Joey Porter jr lose by going 32 and second round vs say going 31 in first or 17 had the Steelers stayed put, likely lost out on Broderick Jones and took Porter?

do you think steelers draft lends itself to them using 12 personnel so they have more flexibility on offense?

Thanks for the chats Gerry!  Is this the year the Steelers break the longest playoff win drought since before the 1970s or are looking at another wait until next year?
