Thanks for hosting these chats Gerry. I can't think of any fresh questions that haven't been asked ad nauseum already.  Oh...wait, I got one:  Oh wait, some one asked it already.  I appreciate you, Gerry. Happy Groundhog day, Kind Sir.

Now, see, I think this chat needs more of these types of entries!!

Do you belueve the Steelers will pick up FA's after roster cut downs as they have the past few years? What would you like to see them aquire? I think OLB and a vet running back.
Gerry Dulac
10:15
Sure they will. Could be a CB, too.

Hi Gerry thanks for the chat. KC took huge gamble in his last draft.  Would have been much better to take white than it was to take Pickett. Why do you think AR2 signed off on that
Gerry Dulac
10:18
Do you mean Willis? I don't know that it was a gamble as much as it was not necessary at this point. I think drafting Pickett is a nice move; I just didn't think they needed a QB, especially after it affected their draft order/needs after that. But when they tried to trade up to get Pickett?? That would have really been a bad move.

Gerry, It appears Mason will be traded out of the Steelers. It's a shame he had a tough time as I think he'd be a good QB if he had a QB coach and all the Myles Garrett stuff. Most of us would have cracked also. If he is traded, what kind of return do you think we'll get as I think he's better than most of the leagues back ups.
Gerry Dulac
10:19
I know it's a tough business, but I feel bad for Rudolph. Once the Steelers said they were comfortable with him, they went out and brought in two QBs over top of him.

Do we see Kenny Pickett making throws at rookie mini camp? Or will it be all about the tryout players
Gerry Dulac
10:20
Of course. That's all they and everyone else wants to see.

Any update on Tuitt?

The Steelers obviously felt Pickett was a good option, you insist he wasn’t. What makes you think you know more than professional scouts and fro t office members who have been very successful doing this?
Gerry Dulac
10:21
I don't. But I know enough to talk to many many people who do

Hi Gerry, your thoughts on Art Rooney’s early decisions once a new GM is in place as to if he’ll have a bigger ear with MT recommendations or the new GM if there is a difference in opinion, even if the new GM has western PA / Steeler ties?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
My guess is the relationship, ideally, will work as it has in the past. Of course, I think it's only reasonable to assume the new GM will need time to assimilate into the Steelers way and what Mike Tomlin thinks and wants to do. It's not going to be an instant mesh.

Hello . Thank you as always for the chat . Two part question for me 1) Do you think Steelers have any interest in signing Giant’s recently  released CB Bredberry ? 2) Do you think Leal can play NT in 3-4 alignment if he gains some weight and would that be Steelers plan despite what Austin initially said on draft night  ? Thank you very much
Gerry Dulac
10:25
No and no. Leal is not a NT. He is a 3-4 end, which means he plays more like a tackle. A lot of NFL people thought his body type was more suited to a 4-3 defensive end. That's why they weren't sure where Leal fit in the NFL. But the Steelers love the guy.

Hello Jerry,  Despite a few notable successes such as Watt, the Steelers drafts over the past 5 years have not been sufficiently good to win even one playoff game.  They are relying more on FA signings of players who are second tier because they are  "affordable".  Again this year, they wasted picks on players who will not help them this year.  Aside from maybe Pickett, I don't see surefire draft successes that can get them into the playoffs.  Shouldn't they completely reassess their draft strategy since they can't seem to win with their draft picks?
Gerry Dulac
10:26
I wouldn't put Pickett in that category, either, at least, not now. But, to your point, that's why I was not sold on this draft, other than the two WRs.

Gerry, has Colbert left the Steelers in better shape no wthat he's retiring than when he took over from Donohoe in 2000?
Gerry Dulac
10:27
I think the two additional Super Bowl trophies in their offices answers that question.

I understand that Canada was limited on what he could do, with the personnel that he had last year.  We will now see how this offense improves after this draft.  But how do you change the fact that he is still likely to call bone-headed plays on 3rd or 4th down that do NOT go beyond the first down marker?  That will still be a problem to look out for, this up-and-coming season.
Gerry Dulac
10:28
Yes it will be. To me, the most significant problem to be addressed. I don't buy into that "he was limited last year" nonsense. Really?

Is there bad blood between the Steelers and Big Ben with how his career ended. Was he ready to retire or was it a Troy type situation where he was forced into it?
Gerry Dulac
10:28
I would say it's very very safe to assume that.

Last year the lead defensive coaches were Tomlin, Butler and Austin. Now it’s Tomlin, Austin and Flores. Will changing out Butler for Flores really make much difference? If so, would that seem to be an indictment of Butler?
Gerry Dulac
10:29
Let's see how the defense performs first.

If they had drafted Picket first, would they have signed Mitch?
Gerry Dulac
10:30
Not sure what you're asking, because they did both.

Gerry, we all know the Steelers don't fire coaches. That said, if Gerry Dulac owned the Steelers how much longer would you be patient with Mike Tomlin? He has gone 9 of the past 11 years and 5 in a row without a playoff win. Doesn't that get you fired from any other job in professional sports?
Gerry Dulac
10:30
It does a lot of times in the NFL, that's for sure. I always point to Tampa Bay and Tony Dungy. Just getting to the postseason wasn't enough.

Do you think Mike Tomlin has his first losing season this year without Big Ben or does he find a way to rally the team and keep the streak going?
Gerry Dulac
10:31
I think it's going to be very curious to see how the Steelers perform without their future HOF QB. But, then, we got a glimpse of that in 2019, and it wasn't always pretty.

Who do you see winning the battle as the slot receiver this year? Seems Austin has the skills for it, but if you only have three WR on the field who are you taking off to get Austin on?
Gerry Dulac
10:32
There won't be much of a battle. The plan is for Austin to be that guy. That doesn't mean in some formations another receiver might line there.

Hi Gerry, when you say that you wished the Steelers had done something different with their 1st round pick is that because you disagree with the Front Office’s assessment of Pickett or because they reached to fill a need?
Gerry Dulac
10:36
After signing Trubisky, and with all the moves they made in free agency, I think they needed to get a big-time player at another position who would play and contribute immediately. My disagreement with what they did had nothing to do with Pickett, per se. They just didn't need a QB with the top pick, especially one from an average class (as the draft pointed up). So let me ask you this: If the Steelers had at least three of those QBs rated among their top 20 players (and they did), what does that say when the next QB taken wasn't until the third round? So who was wrong in their evaluations -- the Steelers or the rest of the league?
Ghollywoodg
10:36
THEIR take: Dulac didn’t know what he was talking about, says it would be a waste of a draft pick to take a QB in 1st….Mike Tomlin then mis-lead everyone on first round intentions..MY take…Dulac sandbagged the blogosphere, ..Mike Tomlin catfished everyone else with the Malik non-sense… there is a reason why we have  Lombardi’s six trophies in the building!…. and..As a true homer you would never betray the Steelers intentions if you knew right?…. Nicely done boys….. VERY nicely done!
