Good morning, Gerry and thanks for the chats. I am of the opinion that the weakest part of the Steelers is the QB room. Tomlin inherited Ben and after he retired, they have a very poor record of evaluating and developing QBs. Now we have a starter (presumably) who is in the mid 30’s and on the downside of his career. The other is a player who fits the saying “the worst thing you can say about someone is that he has potential”.

Hey Gerry. Since the NFL is a big time offense league and the D is at a disadvantage, do you think the steelers should make a trade sending 1 or 2 key players on D for 1 or 2 key players on O? If so, do you think something like that might happen this season?

Gerry, Cory Trice and Calvin Austin get very little respect from the fan base and 2 tier writers. It is like they are not on the team when people talk about the depth chart. Do you see Austin as a significant part of the offense this year? If Trice stays healthy, does he take CB2? Thank you.

Cory Trice shouldn't be given any "respect" (your word) because he hasn't even played in a game, preseason or otherwise. Can't lump Calvin Austin in with him. I think Austin can help because of his speed, no doubt. I don't know, though, about significant.

Pickens can expect more double teams and attention now that he is the #1 and we don't have a #2. Do you expect him to be more of a baby now? The main reason I do is because players don't seem to mature under this coach. They seem to get special treatment and that only makes their behavior worse.

Ben had to take a pay cut to come back for a final year so why not Cam? His game has fallen off and he seems to get hurt a lot. Convert some of his salary to incentives.

It doesn't look like the defensive line will be able to create much pressure on the QB, do you expect the steelers to blitz more especially since they have Queen and hopefully Wilson in the middle.

I don't expect them to blitz any more than usual, but they might change it up a bit because of the players you mentioned.

Since Mason performed reasonably well in his three starts how much of the bad offense was really Matt Canada? Both Kenny and Mitch aren’t close to being starters and questionable quality backups.

Honestly, I don't know if they have because this is only my second year on the selection committee (different than the seniors committee). But, if they haven't, they should. Terrible oversight

Phil, that would take too much time and internal debating, and I don't have that much time during the chat. But let's start with Bradshaw, Harris, Webster, Swann, Stallworth, Heath Miller, Faneca and go from there...

If so, how could they afford to trade for a top-level No. 2 this year knowing that both of those receivers will need to be paid within the next couple of years. The Steelers never pay for more than one receiver at a time, do they?

Too early to say, but I think that is their intention. Let's see what happens this year at the very least

Has any coach had as much "TOP TIER" talent missing as they went into the playoffs as Tomlin? Pouncey and Levy Bell numerous games AB and Shazier......Bud/Bush both out for CLV playoff game (both playing like all-stars at time of injuries) and Minka was a shell of himself against Buffalo to go along with no TJ. These were not average players, except for Bud/Bush all these players had HOF talent. The playoff drought is at least partially from this run of bad luck in my opinion.
