Gerry Dulac's Steelers chat: 05.15.25

No. He just got one last year
Mister Rodgers
10:09
Why have you said the Steelers won’t trade for a WR?  With so many draft picks in 2026, doesn’t it make sense to flip a day three pick for an upgrade?  Day three picks don’t contribute anything to finding a future franchise QB in the top half of round one.
Gerry Dulac
10:09
They already made a big trade for a WR

Do the Steelers consult with a psychologist before drafting players with troubling behavioral histories like George Pickens to help project their behavior? If not, should they?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
They do have some players evaluated like that.
Kris Mueller
10:11
Gerry, how do you see MLB shaking out and do the Steelers view P Wilson as an every down backer?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
Yes they do. And a good one. Doesn't mean they won't rotate other players depending on down and distance. They have four of them for a reason

10:12
Not including Kenny Pickett of course, which flamed out former first round QB would you predict could be the next Baker Mayfield/Genco Smith/Sam Darnold if given a chance to start again?
Gerry Dulac

Jim Plunkett

So does Pickens have a great year in the big D or does he go the route of other problematic Steelers receivers who flame out (minus AB who won a ring, then flamed out)?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
What do you think??
Stash
10:12
Gerry, do you believe that 5-inch, hack-it-out rough really enhances the game? Is it not better to have flyer-length rough for shot-making skill identification and better viewing?
Gerry Dulac
10:13
That's the way they approach Oakmont the last time -- give the players a chance out of the rough to test their skill approaching those greens
Mike
10:13
Chances of an Amari Cooper signing???
Gerry Dulac
10:14
After the Aaron Rodgers affair, I've learned to never rule out anything.

Hi Gerry, any indication of which current NFL quarterback is similar to Will Howard in terms of arm strength?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
Not really, sorry
epiballo
10:14
Hi Gerry! Thanks always for the chats and articles. How effective will parking a house (Black) in the middle of the defensive be in stopping the 'tush push?' I'm looking forward to seeing it!
Gerry Dulac
10:14
Let's put it this way, it can't hurt

10:15
Which CB do you expect to start opposite of JPJ?
Gerry Dulac
10:15
It's not even a debate. Slay

Here's hoping that the 'Tomlin being replaced' and the 'Pickens trade' questions go away; this is a Steelers chat and not a Cowboys chat. He's their problem. Agree?
Gerry Dulac
10:17
I do, I do
mfinn10:16I know many athletes employ routines and habits to enhance performance, and so do teams.  Are you aware of routine-breaking on the part of the Steelers aimed at changing negative outcomes to positive? I believe they have from time to time changed their coin toss selection from deferral to accepting the kickoff.  But in their history, recent or otherwise, have they made any conscious alteration in their travel or practice schedule to make something work out more positively? For example, I am reading of their plant to leave for Ireland late in the week, as they have done in the past for international games that did not turn out well.  Is this something they might do differently?  Also, it does seem they do not play at their best in trips out west.  I just wonder if these are possible ways they can make for better outcomes.
10:18
They do change their routine from time to time, like switching road hotels in a city where they didn't play well the previous time. As for Ireland, I am being told the league is taking control of when teams can arrive for an international game. It might not be up to the teams

Gerry, of the road cities, which one has the best restaurants.
Gerry Dulac
10:19
To me, Indy

10:19
There are a handful of good WR FAs still out there. I expected to read of a signing soon after the Pickens trade. Is the delay because 1) the Steelers really are satisfied with their WR room, or 2) it all hinges on the Rodgers signing as to who they might pursue? Thanks!

Do you expect Andy Weidl to be a GM within the next 1-2 years? Seems like he put together solid draft boards over the past few years here.
Gerry Dulac
10:20
I'm having an issue with some keyboard keys sticking so here is my answer to epiballo: "That could be part of it." Here is my answer to Andrew: "Andy will be a GM in this league soon."
Mister Rodgers
10:21
Will this be the year that Connor Heywaed gets bumped off the 53?  He only brings special teams prowess and an RB passing option, which Gainwell and draft picks supply.  If his last name was Dulac, he would never be on the 53, NEVER.
Gerry Dulac
10:21
I wouldn't go that far
Mediocre Mikey
10:21
Gerry, Did Mason Rudolph deliver the most consistently good play during the 2022 camp? If so, why was he never given a chance? Had Tomlin pre-determined the depth chart prior to the first snap of OTAs?
Gerry Dulac
10:22
No, but likely by the first day of training camp
Tom M.

There’s been a lot of talk about the starting OL and hopefully they’ll develop and do well. But the depth behind them seems weak in the event of an injury. I just noticed Nate Herbig was gone and backup OTs seem weak. How do you feel about the depth in the OL and do they need to make a move there?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
There isn't an offensive line in the league that doesn't struggle with depth. Heck, most teams have trouble building a starting five
Tim
10:23
Who do you get the sense that the Steelers are really excited about in terms of drafted and undrafted rookie additions?  Secondly, who is your pick at Quail Hollow this week?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
Jack Sawyer. Justin Thomas
Dr. Sardonicus
10:23
Hi Gerry,  If we were to trade for a wide receiver, what would be acceptable for the Steelers to give up
Gerry Dulac
10:24
They wouldn't give up more than a fifth-round pick if they did. But I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you waiting for that to happen
