OK kids, we're going to start our chat in just a few minutes, so get your questions ready....
10:49
OK, let's get started....

Would you say there is bad blood between Vince Williams and the Steelers? Did the Steelers force him into retirement like Troy?
Gerry Dulac
10:50
Vince opted to retire on his own. If anyone would be upset, it would be the Steelers because it came out of the blue and right before camp.
Tony Johnson
10:50
Do you think both Boswell and Minkah will get extended before the season?
Gerry Dulac
10:50
Minkah will be for sure.

Hello . Thank you as always for the chat. I have 2 part question . 1) Can you share any " First Impressions " from rookie mini Camp ?
Gerry Dulac
10:51
I don't have many, other than Kenny Pickett throws a nice ball in shorts with nobody coming at him. But he handles himself well and is very mature. And that Calvin Austin sure can scoot!!

Hey Gerry! Pickens reminds me of a young Plaxico. Is that a good comp for what we can expect?  Size, speed and a little edge. Just no nightclubs. Ha!
Gerry Dulac
10:52
Ha....good comparison. But let's hope Pickens stays on his feet better and doesn't look like a young colt, as Plax did his first year

Hello . Thank you as always for the chat. Did Brandon Hunt get a second interview for GM job and is he still considered Front runner for job ? Thank you .
Gerry Dulac
10:53
Brandon Hunt gets his second interview for the job. And he is not the front-runner because no one other than Art Rooney II would know who is the front runner.

What do you see if anything re: Pressley Harvin's future here ?
Gerry Dulac
10:54
Iffy. Better have a solid camp and preseason and hope they don't have a solid contender behind him.

Are the Steelers done with second interviews heard about weidl interview last week haven’t heard any new names since then? Personally if Khan gets the job to me that’s a sign that MT is making the personal calls going forward
Gerry Dulac
10:55
Weidl did not interview last week; he interviewed yesterday. Just another example of someone who has no clue reporting something as fact. And Mike Tomlin is not making any calls about personnel going forward, at least, no more than whatever input he has now.

Hi Gerry:  Thanks for the Chats: The drafting of Pickett and Oladokun and signing Trubisky screams one thing.  The Steelers were really disillusioned with Rudolph and likely he is gone.  When do you think that happened—was it the Detroit game last year, the 2020 Brown’s game. or sooner?  I never thought he was horrible and he has a good arm.
Gerry Dulac
10:58
The 2020 Browns game at the end of the year should have justified whatever belief they had in Rudolph. I don't think the Steelers were disillusioned about him. I think they see a chance to add some competition with a different style of QB (Trubisky) but also maybe find another long-term QB with Pickett. Rudolph is far from horrible.

Hi Gerry,  Has the Steelers traded away any of the 2023 draft picks?  If so, for who?  Thank you.
Gerry Dulac
10:59
Yes, fifth-round for Ahkello Witherspoon.

Hi Gerry. I subscribe to your belief that drafting a QB in the first round wasn't ideal, but I'm struggling to find a better quality option on the board at 20. The DL and OL targets were gone, I'd argue Pickens was better than anything available at WR. And you can only speculate trade partners. What would you have done? Thank you.
Gerry Dulac
11:04
They tried to trade up in the draft to get Pickett, which really would have been a mistake in judgement and execution. They could have traded down to 31 and still got him. So, if they were willing to move up in the draft and sacrifice draft picks, then they should have traded up to get a game-wrecker like Jordan Davis, not a QB who may not even play this season. I understand they might not have found a team willing to make a trade to move up, and, in this instance, thank goodness they didn't. But, to me, their entire execution of the first round was flawed when they were willing to move up but were not interested in a guy who could truly make an impact and bolster an aging defensive line.

Where is and what happened to Shade Tree McCullers?
Gerry Dulac
11:04
He got planted somewhere else.

Thanks for the chats Gerry.  I (like you) didnt like going with Pinkett in the first round.  Having said that who was still on the board that you would have liked and was a first round grade?  I thought the DL's were already gone by then.
Gerry Dulac
11:05
Hey Jeff, see previous answer. That's what I would have done.

Any more theories or suggestions that Ben hates the Steelers and can Ron Cook write some more meaningless articles about it?
Gerry Dulac
11:05
I'll tell Ron

11:05
Gerry, what are the chances the Steelers resign Diontae Johnson to an extension this summer?
Gerry Dulac
11:08
Almost none because I'm sure he would love to test the free-agent market to see if he could get some of that money that is being thrown at WRs -- money the Steelers would not be willing to pay. If he does, I think he will find out what JuJu found out -- other teams aren't going to shell out big dollars for a guy who is viewed as a No. 2 receiver.

Hi Gerry, does Canada have the pieces he needs to showcase his offense or will it be more of the same next year?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
That's what we will find out. To me, that is the biggest issue facing the Steelers offense. Forget the new people on the OL, new WRs and probably a new QB. The offense has to look like it has some rhythm and sync to it, not the disorganized mess we saw last year

Thanks for the chats Gerry!  Who do you think will be the most impactful addition from this offseason.  For my money, i think it will be Coach Flores and his ability to help adjust the defensive gameplan at halftime.
Gerry Dulac
11:10
I think it will James Daniels, Myles Jack and whoever plays QB (which might be impactful in the wrong kind of way).

Hi Gerry two questions 1 as a Pittsburgh panthers season ticket holder I am excited to see Kenny Pickett going number 20 overall you do you think he will be the week 1 starter and 2 when do you think a long term extension will be reached with Minkah Fitzpatrick and can we afford him
Gerry Dulac
11:13
They can afford Minkah and any player they deem that valuable. Someone should tell the Pirates about adopting that management style. As for Pickett, I don't think he will be the Week 1 starter. And, if he is, I don't think that immediately speaks well to the position.

Looking at the roster now, I think we can still upgrade depth at both Tackle and OLB. Wouldn’t surprise me to see Steelers sign some depth later this summer or when teams cut down to 53. One player I think we can add now would be R Kerrigan. He would provide quality depth at OLB and seems like a good “Steeler”. Thoughts?  Appreciate your work!
Gerry Dulac
11:14
I think that's when you will see those types of moves made. But I'm not sure you will see that on the O-line, unless there is an injury to a starter. OLB, yes. Even RB.

Gerry, in your opinion what are the Steelers going to do at Safety? I don't have much confidence with their current options.
Gerry Dulac
11:16
I am perfectly fine with what they did. They brought back a long-time starter who is still very young in Terrell Edmunds and added a proven starter as a backup in Damontae Kazee
