Will you admit you were wrong about the drat when Kenny Pickett turns out to be a good pro QB?
Gerry Dulac
11:18
You're not paying attention. I never said Kenny Pickett might not develop into a "good pro QB." What I have always said is they didn't need to draft a QB on the first round, especially any from an average class. Plus, you are really setting the bar low for Pickett. There are quite a few "good pro QBs" in the league. The hope with a No. 1 pick is he develops into an elite pro QB.

Why did you make up that Ben has beef with the Steelers? Seems like an odd thing to do.
Gerry Dulac
11:18
Yeah, terrible

11:18
Despite signing Daniels and Cole, I don't think the Steelers have done enough to improve the OL, whcih has been very bad for several years now. What do you think?
Gerry Dulac
11:19
I think you should wait and see. Just don't expect it to/ be like the days of Pouncey, DeCastro, Gilbert, Foster and Villanueva

Gerry, Late picks for Oladokun and Heyward seem wasted. Why not take flyers on the DTs and CBs who were drafted after the Steelers picks in these rounds?
Gerry Dulac
11:20
You won't get an argument from me.

Expectations for Norwood this year?  He seemed like a steal as a seventh round pick - wondering if he can be more of a Swiss Army knife for the Steelers between slot and safety.
Gerry Dulac
11:21
I like Tre Norwood. More importantly, so do they. He just lacks the one thing a deep safety needs -- speed.

My previous question regarding our Safety situation was meant to be more specific, Strong Safety was what I was referring to. Edmunds has been a huge disappointment.
Gerry Dulac
11:21
Yes, I knew what you meant. Thanx

Who is the favorite to land the GM job?
Gerry Dulac
11:23
Well, if I answer your question who I THINK is the favorite, it will go all over the internet that I said he IS the favorite. So I think I will pass on what I think until I see which guys are the remaining candidates.

The NFL has changed from a seasonal sport with players working other jobs in the off-season, to a 24-7-365 mega entertainment industry. In turn; the Rooney's have transitioned through 3 generations of leaders. In your opinion, how is the family leadership poised to carry the franchise into the ever-changing future?
Gerry Dulac
11:24
Probably better than any franchise in the NFL. Their family lineage has proven that

Gerry, Which of the following are false:                                              A) Mike Tomlin is a defensive guru                                                   B) The Steelers D payroll in 2021 was the highest in the NFL      C) The D ranked 24th in 2021                                                         C) the "Butler" did it
Gerry Dulac

Sorry, don't do multiple choice

Do you think it’s interesting there wasn’t an option on Edmunds’ contract?  $2.5 million seems like a steal for a one-year contract; optionality - even a mutual one - seems like it would have offered some level of protection.
Gerry Dulac
11:25
Not at all.

Gerry, Is there any sort of weekly schedule for your chats? Maybe it is just me but they seem to happen at random.
Gerry Dulac
11:26
They're typically on Wednesday, especially during the season. But out-of-season conflicts cause me to move them to Thursday -- and, on quite a few occasions in the summer leading up to camp, not doing them at all.

Should we assume Banner’s career is over - both with the Steelers and otherwise?
Gerry Dulac
11:26
Can't speak to otherwise, Sid. But you never know.

Who, in your opinion, will provide "back up" RB support Najee Harris? Do you see the Steelers running any two back sets in their offensive schemes? Thanks!!!
Gerry Dulac
11:27
I think it's possible their backup RB is still not on the roster.

Hi Gerry. I hit return too soon. My question is about the traits necessary for a quarterback to be great. Without looking at statistics it seems the quarterbacks history labeled great had more than just arm talent and escapability. The great ones were usually surrounded with great coaching and a really good to great team. How far does Cincinnati and Joe Burrow go without Jamar Chase as one example. I could go on and on. That said, can a player like Kenny Pickett reach the great status (championship) with great support and the it factor we hear about so much or are some quarterbacks destined to be average at best no matter what?
Gerry Dulac
11:34
Let me tell you something I learned over the years -- great QBs make wide receivers better; great receivers to not make QBs better. Joe Burrow will still be an elite QB even if he didn't have JaMarr Chase. Patrick Mahomes is and will be a great QB without Tyreek Hill. So there is no point for you to go on and on. Great QBs are great QBs, regardless of the coaching. Oh yeah, they make coaches look better too.

Who’s the second best Steelers head coach of all time?
Gerry Dulac
11:34
I think you know that answer.
Ralph
11:35
Do you agree when all is said and done the new GM will be signed from within the organization?
Gerry Dulac
11:36
Not necessarily. But, if I had to guess, a safe one might be that he has some previous ties to the Steelers and/or Western Pennsylvania.  Doesn't mean it will be.

What surprised you the most this past weekend with the rookies?
Gerry Dulac
11:36
I hate to tell you -- nothing. They're in shorts with no contact, no hitting, nothing. Just learning plays and formations.

One of the interesting things the Steelers seem to be doing more of is signing former first rounders that didn't make it with their original team. Usually, they don't fare better here - Karl Joseph or Taco Charlton most recently. They obviously have the physical skills. In your experience, what most often holds guys like this back? Knowing the playbook? Desire? Speed of the pro game vs college? Work ethic? Bad organization/coaching?
Gerry Dulac
11:39
It's probably a lot of those. Some of it is the player. He might have been over-valued coming out. And he might have the work ethic to make himself better. Some of it is the organization -- failing to properly evaluate the player, failing to put him in position to succeed. All that.

Gerry, what’s your best guess as to what action the NFL will take against DeShaun Watson? When I consider past actions taken against Ray Rice, Kareem Hunt (physical violence in both cases) and Big Ben, I’d have to think at least a 4-6 game suspension will be forthcoming. Does that sound about right to you?
Gerry Dulac
11:40
I'd be shocked if they don't suspend him for the entire year. This isn't one or two isolated cases.

Hi Gerry, Why is it a foregone conclusion in many peoples' minds that Kenny Pickett will beat out Mitch Trubisky sometime this year even though: MT was higher rated coming out of college, higher drafted, has won almost 60% of his game in the NFL, was selected to a Pro Bowl, is only 27, and made the playoffs twice (92.5 passer rating) in his first 3 years with the Bears?
Gerry Dulac
11:41
Because, apparently, some people don't stop to consider that and look at what's in front of them. That's another reason why I thought the Steelers shouldn't draft a QB -- because none of them were better than what they already had. We shall see who was right.
