OK kids, we're going to start our chat in about 10 minutes so get ready...

Thanks for the chats, Gerry.  What do you think of the Freiermuth pick?
Gerry Dulac
9:59
I like it a lot. Two dimensional tight end who can complement the one-dimensional Eric Ebron. And a player who can be the No. 1 tight end in 2022..I like Freiermuth

Been hearing lots of comments from Heyward backing BB, OTAs, rookies becoming a sponge, where was he in the past, on taking leadership, & talking to the IMMATURE BRANDING bunch?
Gerry Dulac

I like Cam a great deal, as much as any player in that locker room. Plus, his dad was one of my all-time favorites. I'm not going to pin it on him but I'm surprised some vets didn't tell those young guys to knock off the nonsense. There's nothing wrong with excitability or enthusiasm, but it can go too far where it becomes all about the player and his own personal agenda

Have you heard anything about how the player / NFL talks are really going?
Gerry Dulac
10:02
In regard to....?

My feeling is that with a improved O-line, vastly improved RB and a good group of WRs combined with a superb defense we should be able to compete for AFC North and Playoffs, thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
10:06
I'm not going to argue. And don't forget a new TE who can block and catch. However, I think people should go easy on this vastly improved O-line stuff. That line was pretty darn good, one of the best in the league, if not the best. But their job was to pass protect and keep Ben upright and they did it better than anyone. They just weren't built to run block. That's what's going to change. But, from a personnel standpoint, I wouldn't call this line better, just different from an assignment standpoint.

Good morning Gerry how did Najee look yesterday at otas go Steelers

I was under the impression these talks are for this year's season and was wondering if there could be a holdout or something if the players do not get the contract they want. Sometimes they give hints as to the progress of the talks.
Gerry Dulac
10:07
No, there is nothing about this season that is in jeopardy

Hi Gerry...one of the phrases in golf I've always found a little amusing is 'ball striker'. "Oh, this guy is a great ball striker". I know what it means, but it's silly. If you're on the PGA tour, you're a great ball striker, since that is literally the entire sport, striking the ball. Anyway, just a comment, not a question.

Always been a huge jack fan and like everyone felt his win in 86 at the Masters at age 46 was historic.  It is my belief that what we witnessed on Sunday at the pga is even better.  Phil won at 50, on a harder and longer venue than what Augusta had in 86 and against a larger and better field.  Remarkable, Phil.  What are your feelings Gerry?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
What Phil did will go down as one of the greatest moments in golf history. What Jack did is remembered as one of the greatest moments in sports history. People forget how the sports world, even the nation, was impacted when Jack won in 1986. I've always been a big Phil fan so I'm not about to diminish anything he did on a course that is a tremendous -- yes, very difficult -- venue. But I won't put it ahead of what Jack did. 46 in 1986 isn't the same as 50 years old in 2021, we all know that.

We have 3 (really 2) playoff wins in the last decade. If we strike out this year and Ben retires, could we be looking at yet another dismal decade?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
The QB is always the X factor. Ben is the reason the Steelers have been the NFL's best team (other than the Brady-led Patriots) for nearly two decades. When you don't have that guy (as NE discovered this year), it's never the same. These people who want Ben to move on are as moronic as they are short-sighted

10:14
Hi Gerry, what position/players do you see the Steelers addressing in FA before week 1?
Gerry Dulac
10:15
I think training camp will speak to that. If you had to guess, you might say CB or OLB, but I'm not going to sit here and say that is a priority, barring a significant injury of course.

Why did our newly drafted punter, a Ray Guy Award Winner, last so long in the draft?  He looks like a lock to make the team.  What do you think?
Gerry Dulac
10:15
He is a lock, and teams don't always want to use a draft pick on a punter.
Paul M.
10:15
what are your top 5 favorite western PA golf courses (public or private)?
Gerry Dulac
10:18
You can start with Oakmont and Laurel Valley and just start tacking them on from there -- Allegheny, Fox Chapel, Sewickley, Nevillewood, Field Club, Butler, Olde Stonewall, Sunnehanna....want more?
10:24
Diamond Run, Valley Brook, St. Clair.....

This year the hope is Ebron and Freiermuth's are one/two tight ends.  Why not bring in Jessie James as an insurance policy at two (because of injury or Freiermuth's development)?  Then next year James becomes the backup tight end behind Freiermuth.  If he doesn't have a job yet James would probably be cheap.
Gerry Dulac
10:25
Jesse James went out the window when they drafted Freiermuth.

10:25
The daily Jesse James question. Do you think the Steelers still may sign him?
Gerry Dulac
10:26
You're too late, I just answered it. But, because you took the time to ask.....No.
Jay Daven
10:30
Gerry, what player surprised you at the OTA's,  good or bad?
Gerry Dulac
10:31
None. They don't do anything worth judging or evaluating.

So it seems that training camp at St. Vincent's is a go now?  Do we have any info on dates?
Gerry Dulac
10:32
Unofficially, it appears they will be back there, and the likely but still unofficial starting date is July 21 or 22.
Tampa Too

Gerry. In Regards to everybody on the PGA being great ball strikers the same thing can be said about short game. When announcer say he has a great short game in reality all the players on the PGA tour have a great short games some are just better than others.
Gerry Dulac
10:32
I think most have "good" short games but a few others have great short games.

The Steelers must commit to run. To keep defense coordinator off balance. Also to keep defense fresh. If they don’t no playoff run. What do you think Gary
Gerry Dulac
10:33
Sounds like a simple plan.

10:33
Did I miss the Jesse James is future HOF-er chat session?
Gerry Dulac
10:33
I think that's coming next week.
