OK, kids, OTAs are done for the day and the locker room is empty, so we're going to start our chat a little early today, in about 10-15 minutes. Get ready....
12:43
Well, no sense waiting...let's get started!

What is the fans' obsession with Tuitt? I get that he can help the run game and that he's a solid player when healthy, but the level of concern everyone seems to have makes it seem like this guy is a HOF player.
Gerry Dulac
12:45
Well, let me say Tuitt is more than a solid player who can help the run game when healthy. He is a very very good player, a disruptive player. That's why there is concern.

What happens if MT/MR/KP/CO all look equally good/bad at the end of training camp?
Gerry Dulac
12:48
IMHO IDK. SMH. FWIW LMAO

Hello Gerry.  Coach Tomlin was an excellent hire.  Slowly and gradually he became Marvin Lewis or late stage Jamie Dixon.  How bad would he needs to be in the next year or two to be considered fired?
Gerry Dulac
12:48
Are you saying he's slipping?

Good afternoon, Gerry.  I am curious, how did you interpret CH's comments about ST?  I have no doubt they have spoken, but I took no comfort from CH's words as they relate to ST being a Steeler this season.  I think CH is a great teammate and a great leader and I believe his statements reflect his support for a teammate and not anything close to where ST is as it relates to his return to the team.

I know the players are being careful how and what they say about Tuitt. All I can tell you is don't hold your breath he will show up for OTAs. The coaches aren't. They are merely hoping he shows up for minicamp.

I know it wasn't a Steelers sanctioned event, but do you think there will be any backlash from the organization for Dionte not showing up to his kid's camp?  The Steelers are big on "community" and although he said he would make it up, it just wasn't a good look for DJ.
Gerry Dulac
12:52
No it wasn't. I feel bad for the people who sign up thinking their kids are getting something and get nothing. Then again, that would require some sense of commitment and decency on behalf of the player.

Hi Gerry:  Thanks for the Chats:  Political question for you.  Was Omar Khan hired as GM by Art Rooney to ensure there would be no second guessing of the Pickett #1 pick?  An outsider would be more likely to start sniping if Pickett underperforms.  I actually think it may have been a smart move.
Gerry Dulac
12:53
It might have been a smart move to hire him, but it wasn't for the reason you suggest.

Hey Gerry. What is your QB order for Week 1 at Cincy? Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
12:55
Trubisky, Pickett barring injury. I say that because I believe if they like what they see with Pickett they will make a move with Mason Rudolph. If they don't think Pickett is ready to be No. 2, they will keep Rudolph. The odds of that, though, are infinitely more slim.

Gerry, look forward to your Steelers chats and value your insight.  How do you see the QB competition playing out and who do you see being let go or traded as a result?
Gerry Dulac

Gerry....got any proof on the Ben/Steeler riff? All I have seen is him just wanting to be a dad. He HAS talked about some of the QBs. Doesn't sound like somebody who is mad at Rooney and company does it?
Gerry Dulac
12:56
Nobody said he was mad at Rooney

Hello . Thank you as always for the chat . What is your opinion regarding the Brandon Hunt situation ? It seemed like even if they wanted to bring Weidl in the fold , Hunt could have been promoted to like VP position to prevent him for leaving . Do you expect a promotion to take place or do you expect Hunt to leave ? There have been some interest in Hunt from the league,  from Buffalo and ironically from Philadelphia . Also why do you think Weidl was sort of pushed out of Philadelphia instead of them promoting him ? Thank you so much .
Gerry Dulac
12:58
By bringing in not just one, but two personnel guys to assist Omar Khan, I would imagine Brandon Hunt will decide to leave. And maybe they're bringing in a second guy -- Sheldon White -- because they know Brandon might have a better job lined up elsewhere.

Thanks for the chats Gerry.  Will Jack be considered a 3 down ILB?  Also and I forget what the call it (Buck?) but will have the earpiece or Bush.  Another issue I saw with Bush is that is looked like he didnt know the playbook or was certainly acting like it on the field.  I know it doesn't seem possible in year 3 to  not know the playbook but it looked like something beyond injury
Gerry Dulac
12:59
I think what you very acutely observed is also the reason Bush doesn't get the green dot (earpiece).

Gerry, what QB is taking a leadership role in OTA’s?
Gerry Dulac
1:00
Well, that would appear to be No. 10, not that the others are not. He is also the most experienced, a guy who has made 50 NFL starts.

With Kahn and Weidl taking over as GM and Assistant GM, the Steelers had to have known that would likely cause Hunt to leave...is this a testament to how they really felt about Hunt's contributions to the organization and ability to identify talent?  Most opined that Hunt was the internal frontrunner, since he was the personnel guy.
Gerry Dulac

And it turns out those guys were wrong, huh. Maybe the word should be "indictment" and not "testament." That is no reflection on Brandon. But it might just point up what the Steelers are thinking. Brandon does a nice job.

So in the world of Dulac, the Steelers “wasted” the 2022 draft. So let’s jump into the that world for a sec. The Dulac led Steelers should of selected Devonte Wyatt. Good pick, ceiling (Tuitt) floor (Z Hood)…like I said good pick, not great. Then, just goin on history, the Steelers will at least be a 500 team. Drafting 16-20 range and get the fifth best quarterback in the 2023 draft. Or give up the farm to move up. So enter real world, draft the #1 quarterback in 22, with out giving up the farm. Dude has the potential of being elite because of the team that selected him. Get the DT that we needed in that 16-20 range next year. So all I can do is hope that the Steelers don’t “waste” there time and select Dulac as their next GM. Lol …I post this with much respect tho Gerry, just thought u could see it from another point of view.
Gerry Dulac

DD, I mutually respect your point of view, but my point about the first round is this -- if the Steelers were willing to give up draft capital to move up to draft Pickett, then they should have tried to move up to draft a game-wrecker who can really help (Jordan Davis), not a potentially backup QB.

Yo G.  I see pundits referring to Akhillo Witherspoon as this potential breakout star and even as far as a shutdown CB.  I see a slow DB on his 4th squad that got some fortuitous interceptions(tip or caught out of self defense type plays). Who is right?
Gerry Dulac
1:06
I think you win, only because I don't see a breakout star.

Gerry, I guess there is no place like home. Please provide a synopsis of the strengths and challenges that Messrs. Kahn and Weidl bring in there new management roles. Thanks!!!
Gerry Dulac

Omar Khan's job will not change a lot. That's why Andy Weidl was brought in. He's very good talent evaluator who has put together draft boards. He will fill Kevin Colbert's role.

What are the chances of a veteran RB being signed? Could a guy like David Johnson be a solid fit behind Najee instead of Snell?
Gerry Dulac

I think the chances are very good. I almost expect it.

Gerry, I sure hope Tuitt comes back and if he doesn't I sure hope MT realizes replacing him with a comparable DL is job one. Other wise the run D remains their Achilles. Agree?

Why I said what I did before the draft.
