Just about all of that is on Tomlin and the way he wants to play. And that's get directed to Arthur Smith. Rodgers is not afraid to get hit -- he's a tough dude. But the Steelers were not wanting him to get hit if they could prevent it.

Yaya Black to nose tackle! Should have happened a year ago!

Gerry the coaching jumps off the page to me this year from previous ones….just my imagination?

Do you get the sense of any regret within the Steelers organization on the deal they have TJ before last season? I say this knowing he garners a lot of attention which helps free up the likes of Highsmith and Herbig. But he’s still being paid handsomely to be the game wrecker he’s supposed to be.
Gerry Dulac
10:31
Regret will only come into play if he has another season like last year and not like the previous ones where he was one of the most dominant players in the league. That being said, the Steelers were aware when they gave Watt his huge deal that it might have been a risky business decision.

With what Cleveland was able to get for Garrett, what do you think would be the trade value for Watt or Highsmith?
Gerry Dulac
10:32
I think the ship has sailed to get a No. 1 pick for Watt now. Highsmith would command less, but probably at least a third-round pick and another.

Good morning, Mr. Gerry, are the Steelers likely to trade 90 or 56? Or are they going to roll with a very highly-paid olb group?
Gerry Dulac
10:33
I think they are going to roll for now. Again, let's not forget, they want to win NOW! And they're making sure they are positioned to do so.

if you could play any golf course this summer in the United States what course would it be and why?
Gerry Dulac
10:34
Augusta National. Because it's Augusta National. Here's a secret (don't tell anyone): I've already played it. And with the same Sunday pins.

Gerry, Porter gets a new deal now that Herbig is done but for how much and were does that leave the cap?
Gerry Dulac
10:36
There are 77 CBs in the league who have a higher average salary than Porter. 77!! That's not going to remain that way. Nor should it.

Gerry I still the the timing and way that Mike T left is suspicious. Is it possible that Art told him that he would “run it back” one more year but wasn’t going to extend him, and Tomlin was offended?  The parting doesn’t seem as amicable as advertised!
Gerry Dulac
10:36
Not at all. Mike Tomlin thought it was time to step away. I didn't disagree with him.

Given what the Browns got for Myles and taking into account what has transpired  in the recent past, did the Steelers miss a golden opportunity to trade TJ two years back?
Gerry Dulac
10:37
Uh...well....yeah. But easy for us to say in retrospect

Hey Gerry. Is the Herbig deal too much for a backup player?  Or is this a signal some other big change is imminent this or next season?
Gerry Dulac
10:37
I think it's the equivalent of the Bat Signal

Mr D.  So glad you and the team are still working for us!  Question or thought-Back in time when Vrable was w us he was a converted DE. He didn’t work at nfl DE and was so so at olb so we let him go. The pats saw a football player and used him all over. Maybe our new d coordinator does the same w Herbig. We know Tomlin was not creative like that.  What do you think?
Gerry Dulac
10:38
I think you might be on to something. They didn't pay Herbig to have him lead the band at halftime

Which expensive edge rusher goes ?

As of right now, none

Gerry, now that Herbig is signed, and I hear a lot of talk about trading Highsmith, I think that would be a mistake. He has a very team friendly contract and is in his prime. He also was producing better than Watt. The Steelers should have traded him last year, but I still think the best move is to trade him while they can get something for him? Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
10:40
That is always the balance GMs try to strike -- when to trade while there is still some value. You are right about one thing -- 56 played better than 90 last season. Don't worry, the Steelers know that

Hi Gerry.  Happy for Herbig. Analysts talk about how great he is in pass rush but not as strong against the run.  Understanding edge guys get paid for sacks and pressure, how do you rate his run defense and pass coverage skills?
Gerry Dulac
10:42
They rarely ask their OLBs to cover, or, at least, that was the case in the old defense. So not fair to evaluate their pass-coverage ability. And, yes, they do pay them to get sacks

The trade of Miles Garrett is intriguing. The Brown's invested in their future. I'm intrigued by their evolving Roster and future. The Steelers continue to have a culture that emphasizes loyalty! The Roster is like Groundhog's Day. Playoff contenders with a chance to win in the first round. Hence the question---At what point do you tweak the culture of loyaty and commit to a rebuild that can win big and have a serious playoff run?
Gerry Dulac
10:45
18 of the previous 21 drafted players made the team. The only three who didn't went on IR. Aaron Rodgers. Jalen Ramsey. Patrick Queen. Jamel Dean. Rico Dowdle. Trades for DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman. I would call that more than a tweak.

Gary thanks for the chats I always look forward to them. Congratulations to Nick on his new contract that is well deserved, am I correct in assuming that this contract doesn’t effect this year’s salary cap but takes effect in the 2027 season
Gerry Dulac
10:46
The pro-rated portion of his signing bonus will count against this year's cap

Hi Gerry, I know a lot of people think the Steelers have to trade Watt or Highsmith b/c of the Herbig signing, but isn't it more likely that they keep the most important position in a Steelers defense strong and rotate the three of them?
Gerry Dulac
10:46
Yes it is.

With the Herbig extension what is your best guess on what happens next; TJ restructure/trade, Highsmith trade, or play out this year with all 3 and trade/release/restructure TJ next year?
Gerry Dulac
10:46
All 3 this year

By no means do they need another quarterback but the Steelers are linked in some places as a candidate for the guy available in the supplemental draft….. have the Steelers ever taken anybody in the supplemental draft? What’s the word on this guy?
Gerry Dulac
10:48
I don't think that's on their radar.

will either Watt or Highsmith be traded? One will have to and will it be prior to this season or after? I would trade watt given his production and cap hit/age
