That's what they use OTAs for -- to try some guys at different positions to see who can do what.

Why is it such a big deal that the Steelers don’t have as many assistant coaches, it’s not like more assistants guarantee success?
Gerry Dulac
10:24
MNM, that's two perceptive questions already. You're violating the chat code.

Gerry, when the Steelers do MTs extension do you think they might privately agree to some sort of out clause? I don't know that anybody including Art2 has the stomach for 3 more years of mediocrity.

There is always some sort of out clause.

For the six quarterbacks drafted in the first round this year, can you put them in order of your prediction of who has the best statistics at the end of this year, best to worst? They are: Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, J.J. McCarthy, Michael Penix Jr. and Bo Nix.
Gerry Dulac
10:25
Too early for me to predict.

Mornin’ Gerry! So glad to see Cam back with the team. They really need his leadership especially around the new guys. I know Cam wants to play for another three years and wants to be one of the highest paid at his position BUT he surely has to understand how the front office views a 35 year old DL coming off a serious groin injury. I guess he’ll hold in.  TJ did and so did Dionte but they were much younger. Meaning at his age isn’t it more dangerous to not get any reps before the start of the season? I don’t see how doing that affects front office negotiations anyway, do you?
Gerry Dulac
10:28
You're right -- it really doesn't. But they wouldn't want Cam to get too many preseason reps anyway, not at his age. They would prefer to keep him healthy and ready to go in September.

I think the Steelers need a legit #1 or 2 receiver to get the full potential from Pickens. Without one I could see Pickens being double teamed and then his frustration boiling over. Reminds me of Juju excelling when playing with Brown but then his production dropping after Brown left. Price seems higher than the Steelers will probably do though.
Gerry Dulac
10:30
I think that is true with most receivers. You need complements to help keep defenses from keying on one guy, even though they will still do it. Certainly JuJu benefitted from AB. We saw that once AB was gone. That's why JuJu was never viewed as a No. 1 receiver, even though he made many big plays for the Steelers.

Does Fautanu start at RT week one in your opinion? And best guess at a yardage projection for  Freiermuth as the probable #2 option in the passing game if he stays healthy?
Gerry Dulac
10:32
Too early to tell, but my guess is not right away. Be like Jones last year. Don't make yardage predictions. Or catches. But he will be more involved.

In regards to moving players around the offensive line (such as Dotson, Green, Chuks, Jones, etc.), isn't it better for players to focus on one position and master their craft at that position?  Flexibility is one thing, but stability and repetition are critical.  We've seen what Dotson has done in LA.  Chuks has said he is already getting better coaching in NE than he ever did here.  Is Tomlin ever going to learn?  Or is he so bullheaded that he believes his way is the only right way?
Gerry Dulac
10:33
It's not like they got rid of Alan Faneca, Dermontti Dawson and Tunch Ilkin. They feel they have better replacements.
Barney
10:33
All the talk about Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. What are your expectations out of them? What do you think we are getting in Wilson? Do you think we see Fields at any point start a game? thoughts on your report about steelers likely signing cam sutton after todays visit?
Gerry Dulac
10:36
I expect the QB situation to be better than last season, but that's what we're going to find out. And I think Wilson still has a lot left in the tank after throwing 26 TDs and only eight picks last season. You know how many teams would take that from their QB? The Steelers are one of them. And there's little doubt Sutton will help the secondary. The Lions signed him to a big contract like they were landing some Pro Bowl-type CB. Naturally, he proved not to be that. Shame on them -- they didn't do their homework. Or were desperate, which is more likely the case. Sutton is what he is -- a player who can really help but not one who is a game-changer.

Steelers signing the Texans punter is such a non talked about kinda big move. Especially over last years guy.
Gerry Dulac
10:36
Agreed. Good signing

maybe i am in the minority here but isn't it a little pathetic to sign cam sutton after he was arressted for beating his wife? he's obviously a good player but it's just a football game. ok, so we have a better slot corner now. who cares. what kind of message does that send?
Gerry Dulac
10:38
Scott, your reaction is one that will be shared by others.
RAM10:37About the Cam Sutton news, on a one year deal what happens if he gets suspended for half the season? How does that work?
He doesn't get paid for the games he has been suspended.

Prediction - Who is the starter after the first 6 weeks of the season?
Gerry Dulac
10:39
I assume you mean QB? I'd say the guy from Seattle via Denver.
Trigg Hamfest

Thoughts on using Mark Robinson as a ILB and emergency RB, keep 3 RBs and use Mark if he is needed.
Gerry Dulac
10:39
I don't think they have any thoughts about that whatsoever. Nor do I

Happy Wednesday Gerry!
Who from all the new faces are you impressed during the OTAs so far ?
Gerry Dulac
10:40
I prefer to wait till training camp, once the pads are on, to start making evaluations
Noah Kravitz

I would view Deebo as more of a realistic trade candidate for our wide receiver #2,  but do you think Khan still wants to go big for Aiyuk?
Gerry Dulac
10:41
I don't think Deebo is realistic.

Besides a legit top WR2, what do you see being the Steelers most deficient position on the roster? Are the comfortable with the current roster and who they could use at Nickel?
Gerry Dulac
10:41
Defensive line has not been improved from last season. That's what I think.
Mr Ed
10:42
Mind if I insert a golf question? The last 10 years, Rory McElroy has won numerous tournaments all over the world, been great in the Ryder Cup, but no majors wins in that time. So, I don’t consider him to have performed up to his hype. I place a lot of emphasis on the majors. Am I being unfair to the guy?
Gerry Dulac
10:43
No, a lot of other people say the same thing. But I will point up he has had a career in that time that is almost unmatched by any other player. That's why 10 years without a major is sooo surprising.

What do you make of the Mark Kaboly report of Cam listing his Pittsburgh home for sale on Sunday?
Gerry Dulac
10:43
I didn't check the real estate listings today
Ryan
10:43
To all of those who want Tomlin fired I ask who is available that would be better?  I  will take 17 straight winning seasons over cycling through coaches like some of these other organizations.
Gerry Dulac
10:44
The Steelers would too
Noah Kravitz
10:44
I've noticed all our draft selections have their contracts agreed to, except Frazier. Is there something going on with contract negotiations? Or do you think this is standard. We can all remember that Pickett took forever to sign his rookie deal, don't feel the same thing will happen with Frazier, just thought that could be interesting.
Gerry Dulac
10:44
Don't think there will be any issue
