What about Haden?  Do the Steelers bring him back with Tuitt's money?
Gerry Dulac
10:22
That has nothing to do with it. Tuitt will still count $9.6 million in dead money through the 2023 season, so it's not like they are free from what he still counts against their cap.

what's your prediction on what LIV will look like a year from now?  will it fold like the old USFL due to lack of interest/TV contract?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
That's the billion dollar question.
Rocky B
10:23
early reviews of Mitch are favorable, correct ?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
yes, but it's OTAs and minicamp. Let's wait and see until the pads go on and the other team starts coming at him.

Recently heard about a plan to reduce carries for Najee this season. Who is expected to take those carries? Benny Snell? Committee?
Gerry Dulac
10:25
As they said in Christmas Vacation -- "I'd take a rain check on that, Art." I'll believe it when I see it. Not like there are a lot of good alternatives. I said at the beginning of last year Najee would lead the AFC in carries (and he did, once Derrick Henry was injured) and I'll predict it again.

Do you expect there will be real competition in camp to replace the two biggest weak links in the defense, Nos. 55 and 34?  Or are they already penned in as starters?
Gerry Dulac
10:25
Pencil it in, write it down.
Rocky B
10:26
Your prediction on the two starting ILBs for week one
Gerry Dulac
10:26
Easy one -- Bush and Jack

Gerry  Who has impressed you most and how has KP fared?
Gerry Dulac
10:26
Who's KP?

Gerry, do you think we will actually finally use a Fullback this year?  We have a good one, and pay him well......
Gerry Dulac
10:26
Nope.

If Trubisky starts and does well, then in what ways can Pickett get involved on the field beyond carrying the clipboard all season.
Gerry Dulac
10:28
This is not a Ben Roethlisberger situation. If Trubisky struggles, Tomlin will be more inclined to yank him and use Pickett. Maybe not immediately, but he will.

Gerry "pay the man" Dulac:  What 3 advises would you give Omar Khan ? Consider what you have seen in Steelers during these years.  Thanks
Gerry Dulac
10:29
Keep doing what you have been doing.

Assuming you have been attending minicamp, have you seen anything that drew your interest (player, coach, qb rotation, etc.)?
Gerry Dulac
10:31
I'm sorry to disappoint you, but nothing that occurs in OTAs or minicamp draws my interest. That doesn't happen until at least training camp, and really not even then. I don't start judging or get interested until I see them in games

I feel we need a solid backup or 2 at RB. We would have a couple more Super Bowl Trophies if our backups behind Lev Bell were better. I know it is shells but so far how has Warren and Durant been looking? I'm hoping both make the roster.
Gerry Dulac
10:32
That's going to a very long shot for each. But I agree they need a veteran backup RB, like a DeAngelo Williams or LeGarrette Blount
Chuck from Michigan

Hi Gerry, enjoy your chats very much.  Steelers seem to covet Big Ten players especially from Michigan (Devin Bush is terrible, Taco Charlton was way overrated, and Chris Wormley is an okay second stringer, we'll see about Mason Cole).  They seem to have an affinity now for Texas A&M players (Johnson/Leal).  Is their scouting department organized by conference, region, or position?  Their draft success has been terrific going back to Chuck Noll regime, but not so much lately?  Appreciate your insight!
Gerry Dulac
10:34
Their scouts are assigned by region, but that doesn't have anything to do with where they predominantly are getting their players. Three of the players you mentioned were acquired in trades or free agency, not the draft. And you forgot Buddy Johnson from Texas A&M. Three in the past two drafts

Thanks for the chats Gerry.  Whats up with the turtle helmets?  Assume they are for better player safety?
Gerry Dulac
10:34
That is correct. Only for certain position players and only up to the first 2 weeks of the preseason.

Are the Steelers going to allow Pickett to practice with the first team in training camp or will he be with second and third teasers until he proves he is ready to step up?
Gerry Dulac
10:35
He will get time with the first team. They want to see what he has and what he has learned. They didn't use a No. 1 pick on him to have him sit around and develop slowly
TheCorzich
10:36
Do you think we carry 3 TE's this year?  Does Rader make the team?
Gerry Dulac
10:36
Of course they will. They always do. And I think you can pretty much assume Connor Heyward is making the team as the third TE/FB/HB

Gerry, a friend of mine was talking of how the Steelers wasted a pick on Gabe Rivera (instead of taking Marino). Sure, with hindsight, Marino would have been the better pick, not just for the Steelers, but for all the teams in the first round.  I argued that Rivera was a pretty good tackle in the games he played.  Am I remembering this correctly?
Gerry Dulac
10:37
Yes you are, and the people who say that don't remember what a special player Rivera appeared to be. They only remember the Marino argument.

I read, somewhere, that the Steelers have moved D Bush to the "Buck", or rush, ILB and Jack to the Mack.  Do you think this will do any good, or is it just "putting lipstick on a pig"? Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
10:39
A little more of the latter. But part of the reason they do that is because it allows the bigger linebacker to blitz and occupy a blocker and the smaller quicker linebacker to hit a gap and attack the QB

How confident are you that the Jack/Bush combination this year will provide a significant improvement over last year's inside linebacking play? I'm not sold on a big improvement coming from Bush, and I'm not entirely confident in Jack's play either.
Gerry Dulac
10:40
I'm willing to bet their inside play will be better, if only because it can't be any worse (or average) than last season.
Rocky B
10:40
has Haden received much outside interest?  No brainer to try to re-sign him for reasonable amt, right?
Gerry Dulac
10:40
He has not. And it's reasonable to suggest
