Are there any free agent DL available that can provide quality to an aging line?
Gerry Dulac
10:40
They don't need veteran DL. They got that. So, no.

Will Matt Canada open up the offense more this season? He was ultra-conservative last year with the poor O-line play but it seemed that the only time we had any success was when Ben went off script.
Gerry Dulac

To me, that's the biggest question of all. Mike Tomlin has invested a lot of faith in Canada, especially after the dismal offense we saw last year. They can't afford to have the same thing happen again. We'll see.

Do you think Mike Tomlin will be the chief Def. play caller & if so, do you think he should be? Thanks, appreciate the job you do.
Gerry Dulac
10:43
I'm not sure it will change a lot, but I think it should, if only because more faith/trust has to be given to your coordinators. You can't do everything. Let them do their jobs.

Do you think mason Rudolph is getting a fair chance to compete for the starting role?
Gerry Dulac
10:45
Maybe not as much as Trubisky, but part of that could be they know what Rudolph can do. They want to get some good early intel on Trubisky

My earlier question was how does Pickett get involved if Mitch does well and wins. You answered that Pickett would play if Mitch struggles, but I asked the opposite.
Gerry Dulac
10:46
Well, in that case, he probably won't get too involved. But I still think they will find ways to get him in the game. They're not going to let a No. 1 pick just sit and watch.

Apologies.  Joined the chat a bit late and noted my previous question was a repeat.  How about: Do you think it was wise for the coaches to pronounce Edmunds the starter when they brought in Kazee, who's more productive in turnovers and has the skills?  What's the point of bringing in competition and claiming competition and then undermine the strategy?
Gerry Dulac
10:47
Never read too much into a depth chart, but Edwards is the starter because he has been for four years. Doesn't mean they won't get Kazee more involved. That's what training camp and the preseason are for.

Did the Steelers ever have any interest in signing Watson, or was the pure national speculation?
Gerry Dulac

Never

So there is "dead money" regarding Tuitt's contract.  Did he just cash in signing bonus money, then not fulfill his contract?
Gerry Dulac
10:49
His signing bonus, like every player in the NFL, is guaranteed. But, like with every team, the signing bonus is pro-rated over the life of the contract to ease the salary-cap hit. Tuitt had two years left on his deal, so that pro-rated portion is what constitutes "dead money." There is no such thing as cashing in.

Hey there Gerry! I love Najee and I believe he is an elite running back with good blocking and elite receiving, why do the Steelers want to reduce his workload?
Gerry Dulac

They say they do to save some of the wear and tear on his body. But they say that stuff every year. Don't believe it,

I’m a Tomlin basher but I do feel any coach at the NFL level should be held accountable to his body of work. I’ve read a few articles recently that seem to show the local media is looking a bit more negative toward Tomlin’s pretty much “untouchable” status. Especially when considering cold hard facts about his recent record as compared directly with personnel decisions he was certainly involved in. Thoughts on if this might be the media trying to get his seat warmed a bit? Justifiably in my opinion.  I do like him as coach in most aspects but feel pretty much his entire tenure was directly relatable to having Ben. Belicheck was considered a bad enough coach to be let go in Cleveland and then suddenly a genius with NE. Pretty obvious reason.

I think his embarrassing early playoff exits in their past three postseason trips has only exacerbated the discussion.

Is there any real chance that Rudolph stays on the roster this year if Pickett and Trubisky aren't total failures?
Gerry Dulac
10:51
I don't think there is any real chance Trubisky and Pickett will be "total failures."
10:52
OK kids, have to run to practice. Thanx for the questions.
