Gerry, are the Steelers really paying T.J. Watt for what they think he will still do, or for what he's already done? I think it's the latter, no matter how much they'd insist it's the former.
Gerry Dulac
10:19
It's both. But if they really thought he couldn't do it anymore, they wouldn't have given him that deal

Other local pundits seem to think our defense is overpaid and overrated. How do you think the lack of offensive consistency has contributed to that the since Ben has hung it up? If Rodgers can move the needle offensively to be able to consistently sustain drives, even if they don't always result in points, does that help the defense reach its full potential?

Can't help but feel a lot of the post season collapses on defense are due to high snap count as a result of offensive inefficiencies.

I don't know if they're overpaid, but they sure are highly paid. No other team in the league has five defensive players who each count at least $17.5 million against the salary cap this year. But after the way the Eagles and Ravens pushed them around last year, you might not be far off to say they were overpaid

Hi Gerry, thanks for the chats. Jalen Ramsey was terrific in man coverage last year. I think he's already the best corner on the roster. And yet, I suspect the Steelers are going to try to move him around like a chess piece. I'd rather he try and prove that he can take away a team's top wide receiver before deploying him as a multipurpose weapon. What are your thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
I don't think they are going to move him around just to move him around. But they want him on the field all the time with Porter and Slay and he will line in press coverage, make no mistake, depending on the opponent.

Gerry, why aren't the Steelers (or 30 other teams for that matter) more interested in Amari Cooper as WR2? He's always been a terrific route-runner, a drama-free player, and it didn't look like he had lost a step last year. What gives?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
I'
I've always liked Amari Cooper, but I disagree -- he hasn't looked like the same player the past couple years

Hey Gerry, the Steelers were one of the worst offenses in the NFL in terms of explosive plays last year. Anyone that follows the league can tell you that explosive plays are very predictive when it comes to a drive ending in a touchdown or not. What kind of a plan do you think they have to fix this in 2025?
Gerry Dulac
10:25
I don't know just yet, but that's what we're going to find out very soon

Gerry, hope all is well with you and yours!  Every year the seven shots plays a premier role at training camp.  It seems to me that the Steelers rank very poorly in scoring each year under Super Coach MT.  Maybe .Mike should, I don’t know, change his approach?  This drill OBVIOUSLY (lol) is Not Working.  One more thing if I may.  How long will it be before we hear the Iron makes Iron phrase.  Tomlin is Laughable!
Gerry Dulac
10:27
The drill is a drill, and nothing more. I don't think it has anything to do with failures (or even successes) during the regular season.

Hi Gerry,  Does Rookie Offensive Tackle Gareth Warren  -- 6' 6" / 333 lbs. -- have any potential of at least making the practice squad?  Could he be a diamond in the rough?
Gerry Dulac
10:27
He could.

Hello Gerry, is Gabe Davis healthy enough to sign if the Steelers are interested in his services?
Gerry Dulac
10:28
I know the Steelers thought he had some injury issues when he visited.

In the final analysis, would you rate Najee a disappointment?
Gerry Dulac
10:28
Hard to say a guy who had four straight 1,000 yard seasons and never missed a game a disappointment. But I get your point.

Seems we have assembled a misfit group of players at various ages and stages of their careers more so than in the past. Is this a philosophical change, coincidence or the reality of life without a franchise QB?
Gerry Dulac
10:29
It's what is called an aggressive (or desperate) move to do whatever they can to win a playoff game

Why in your opinion did Howard last until the 185th pick? Popgun arm?
Gerry Dulac
10:30
I'm not sure. I need to watch him against NFL players before I decide

Which of the less than 3 year DL will have a bigger impact this year?
Gerry Dulac
10:30
Easy -- Harmon

Hi Gerry, Pretend I just got into town on a Musk starship flight from Mars. I know that Tomlin rescued Brian Flores from owner criminality in Miami and NFL coaching oblivion resulting from his lawsuit against the league. What baffles me is why Tomlin had him in house for a year and didn't make him DC. Add in ownership not seizing upon him as HC in waiting when Tomlin is retired. In the meantime Flores goes to Minnesota and put together a top defense quick on short money compared to Steelers payroll. Further its assumed league wide he will be leading HC candidate going into next year. Signed, confused space traveler.
Gerry Dulac
10:35
I don't think it's as simple as you might think after your travels
2BeeOrNot2Bee
10:35
More likely or not. A playoff win this year or MT current contract is his last?
Gerry Dulac
10:35
A playoff win?
2BeeOrNot2Bee
10:35
How much playing time will QB Howard see in preseason?
Gerry Dulac
10:35
Probably a lot. More than the others

Gerry, is free safety or a wide receiver a need that must be addressed?  If so, which one is more important?
Gerry Dulac
10:36
They are not looking for a free safety.

10:36
How underrated was L. Kirkland from early B Cowher teams?
Gerry Dulac
10:36
I don't think anyone ever underrated him.

10:36
Do you envision the team going out to get a starting safety and a WR2 still? Believe those are the only two holes left to fill.
Gerry Dulac
10:36
I do not, but you never know about a WR
Sweaty Ken

Did Rodgers go through a back door at arrival? Didn’t see anything regarding his arrival
Gerry Dulac
10:37
He reported the night before.

Is Porter’s handsy problem fixable at this stage of his development?
