OK kids, we're going to start our chat in approx 10 minutes, so get ready
10:48
OK lets get our chat started. Fire away...
Heath
10:48
gerry.   How has Haskins looked in your opinion?
Gerry Dulac
10:52
I think he has shown from a physical standpoint why he was a first-round draft choice. He has all the tools and they have been on display. But I will withhold judgement till I see him in a game, see him find a receiver against a defense that isn't his own. He looks good in 7-on-7 drills when he knows which receiver is his target. But among his problems in Washington was his ability to go through his progressions and react to defenses. Until then, I'm not going to proclaim him as Ben's successor, or even a threat to be the No. 2 quarterback.

With all these injuries are coaches worried that the o-line won't be prepared for week 1? As professionals how much time do these five athletes really need together to be effective?
Gerry Dulac
10:53
They are not worried at all. The regular season doesn't start for  5 1/2 weeks.

How has Rudolph looked in Practice? Is he going up against the 1st team defense more than Haskins? How have some of the new CB/DB's looked?
Gerry Dulac
10:54
He has his moments, but I judge him on how he looks in game, not practice. And his body of work in games, from what we've seen, is more than acceptable. And he goes up more against the No. 2 defense, except on those days when Ben doesn't practice and he runs the No. 1 offense.

The same people that are worried about Ben playing next year are already looking at 2022 mock drafts. Gerry don't we want the best man for the job no matter who he is or how old they are ?
Gerry Dulac
10:55
Of course. Age doesn't matter. Performance does.
Stewart
10:55
Saw not many mention it but it looked like Juju also had the Yellow wrist band last week. Does he still have it on?
Gerry Dulac
10:55
Honestly, I haven't paid attention.

What guidelines will the Steelers follow in regards to mask requirements and attendance restrictions this year at Heinz Field?
Gerry Dulac
10:56
I don't know for certain, but as far as I know masks will not be required to wear at the games. And, as of right now, there are no attendance restrictions. All NFL stadiums are allowed to be at full capacity.

Gerry do you believe Louis Lips and Hines are worthy of the HOF?
Gerry Dulac
10:56
I think Hines is more worthy and I'm not sure he will get in either

Hi Gerry.  I am thinking that TJ Watt's contract will look like this: (1) 5 years @ $26 mil per or $130 mil, or (2) 5 years @ $28 mil per year or $140 mil.  What are your thoughts?  Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
10:58
I'll leave the contract figures to you, though I think your numbers are, in the words of Bob Uecker, just a bit outside.

Has Haskins really looked that much better than Rudolph or is because Haskins is going up against more backups?
Gerry Dulac
10:58
It's practice, fellas. Practice.

10:58
Hi Gerry, do you think there's a good chance that all 5 expected starters on the O-line might start taking practice reps together on Saturday?
Gerry Dulac
10:59
The chances get better each day, but I will tell you this -- relax. It's going to be OK. They will have plenty of time to play together. Nobody has a serious injury that will keep them out for weeks. They will be back soon.

Is there any shot, or have you heard any news about us trading for CB Xavian Howard from the Fins?  That would certainly solidify the secondary. Your thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:00
Nope

What's the status on James Washington.  Don't hear much about him.  What's your projection on what receivers make final cut.
Gerry Dulac
11:00
I think the same receivers you saw last year will be the same receivers you see this year. Write it down
Stewart
11:00
Any news on ILB Buddy Johnson or OLB Roche?
Gerry Dulac
11:00
I want to see them in a game, especially Johnson.

Hines ward should be in the HOF.  He is clearly the best blocking WR ever.  He rarely dropped the ball,
Gerry Dulac
11:01
Unfortunately, WRs get in the HOF because of their production, not their blocking ability. That being said, Hines has pretty good numbers to go with his blocking ability.

Hi Gerry, might we see Shakur Brown push for some playing time at slot corner? I hear he's making plays in practice.
Gerry Dulac
11:02
He might but I don't think it will be anytime soon. Let's see if he makes the team first. Good candidate for the practice squad
VaSteelersFan
11:02
Thanks for your time, Gerry. Surely Haskins will beat out Josh Dobbs for the QB 3 spot. He's practicing with the first and second teams and will feature prominently in the HOF game. What do you think?
Gerry Dulac
11:02
I think you're probably right.

Hello . Thank you as always for the chat . Do you think there is in house option for back up safety job or do they need to go out and get someone as Tre Boston ? Thank you very much
Gerry Dulac
11:05
Right now they are taking a look at what they have and will decide before the season if they need to get outside veteran help for depth. But I think they think they have enough bodies to find a decent backup.

Hey big boy.  Been a minute but I’m back and better than ever. You like Pierre outside w Sutton inside or Sutton outside w some other combo inside?
Gerry Dulac
11:05
I need to see how Brooks or Maulet play in the slot before I decide that. More importantly, the coaches need to see that more than me.

Better chance of happening; Aaron Rodgers as the 2022 Steelers QB or Gerry Dulac 2022 U.S. Open champion? Why do the national writers continue to write this nonsense that Rodgers could realistically be a Steeler next year?
Gerry Dulac
11:06
Cause they have nothing better to say or think
