OK kids, just another 5-10 minutes and we will get going.
9:52
OK, let's get started. Fire away.

Gerry: The depth chart at TE was interesting.  Obviously there will be a variety of formations, but they have $24 million of annual value tied up in Smith and Friermuth who are listed as co-starters for one TE slot.  Smith is a better receiver and blocker.  Given Khan's propensity to trade Colbert's high picks could Friermuth be shipped out for an OT or WR?
Gerry Dulac
9:53
Here's an easy one -- no!

Gerry: The good news is that Tomlin seems to be enamored with Peyton Wilson's development in coverage.  Is the bad news going to be that means we will likely see Wilson in man coverage against Ja Marr Chase or Zay Flowers in the slot in critical situations bringing back memories of Jon Bostic vs Keenan Allen?
Gerry Dulac
9:53
Did someone tell you they traded for Jalen Ramsey??

How much do the starters play this weekend in JAX?  Particularly on O and D line?
Gerry Dulac
9:54
Very very little. And any significant starter will not play.

Which Steelers defensive lineman do you think could be the best bouncer at a Primanti Bros?

Hi Gerry! From what you’ve heard are the Steelers set on the WR room or are they looking to add another veteran like an Amari Cooper or Keenan Allen?
Gerry Dulac
9:55
I don't want to say they are set because we have seen they don't seem complacent about anything. But I don't want to say they're looking, either

Can you explain the difference between draft rounds 1-4 and 5-7? Is it league wide or just the Steelers who never let the lower round players play much, never re-sign them, and often just trade away their lower round picks for back up players?
Gerry Dulac

Talent, Bill, talent

Are the Steelers planning a tickertape parade for Tomlin this year if he can finish with another pristine non-losing season, back into the playoffs  and eke out a 12-6 wildcard win?
Gerry Dulac
9:57
I believe I detect some early-morning cynicism

Is there any free agents right now that you think Steelers should sign?
Gerry Dulac
9:57
Are there? Not right now

Good morning Gerry, any word on CA3's injury? I don't think the term "no news is good news" applies here.
Gerry Dulac
9:58
Actually I don't have an update. Tomlin hasn't provided one so it might be time to start researching

Gerry whatever else happens with the offense this year at least we won’t have Cement Shoe 22 leaving us in 2nd and 3rd and long with his consistently ineffective early down runs

Let me tell you something, Rich -- for all the offseason moves that have improved a lot of positions, people are ignoring the fact the running game is not one of them. Don't get me wrong, I like Kaleb Johnson and I liked the pickup of Kenneth Gainwell. But when you look at the production Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren provided the past two seasons, this current group might have to go a long way to match it. Right now, it is not a position you can see is improved.

Hi Gerry:  Thanks for the chats.  Looking back Brady only took 22 sacks/yr. his last 3 with Tampa.  That was with 733 passing attempts in 2022.  Rodgers took 40 sacks last year with the Jets.  Ben took 38 his last Steeler year.  Do you think Tomlin and Smith can get Rodgers to 3-step drop and throw enough times to keep him upright all year?  Jones at LT remains unproven.
Gerry Dulac
10:01
That's what we're going to find out

Hi Gerry:  Thanks again for the chats.  Has Rodgers ever mentioned at camp that additional WR talent is needed?  He wouldn't in a public way, but to others?
Gerry Dulac
10:02
You'd have to ask the "others," because he would never say that to the media, certainly not in training camp. Maybe in Week 10

Does Connor Heyward make the team as a ST player only?
Gerry Dulac
10:02
That will be his best bet
Russ (not Grim)

Can you temper my expectations for this defensive unit because I am feeling like they might be really special. Thanks!
Gerry Dulac
10:05
I'm not sure I'm ready to call them special, but I think they can be pretty good. That No. 1 pick is going to help A LOT
Linebacker Lounge
10:05
OLB, ILB or TE… someone is gonna be dealt before season. Your thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
10:06
My thought is you are wrong, unless you're included a fourth or fifth team player
Tdog
10:06
Gerry, there has been a lot of hype so far around this defense. Do you think it will live up to the expectations based on what you have seen at camp?  Why or why not?
Gerry Dulac
10:06
We will find out when they start playing for keeps against opponents who will scheme against them, not against their own teammates
Linebacker Lounge
10:06
Do you foresee Y Black in the rotation and getting a lot of reps when the season starts, first off the bench or hold my water for a couple weeks?
Gerry Dulac
10:07
He will play. Why? Because who else do you think they have that deserves to play. They didn't draft him to sell Terrible Towels at halftime
Bill in LA
10:07
Do you predict Isiah Loudermilk and Connor Heyward make the team?
Gerry Dulac
10:08
I predict probably
Farmtastic
10:08
Gerry, maybe im remembering the past a little too fondly, but after watching a few highlights from the 2000s and 2010s Steelers teams, im convinced that Charlie Batch was better than maybe half the starting QBs in the league today. Maybe it was just the team around him.
Gerry Dulac
10:08
A little of both, but Charlie was a very good backup to BR
