Hi Gerry, what’s your call? Mark Robinson make the final 53 man roster… seems like a long shot now with all the ILB free agent signings this off season.
Gerry Dulac
11:00
Yes he does. He will be the fourth ILB to make the roster behind Cole Holcomb, Elandon Roberts and Kwon Alexander

Mr. D, curious what you think about our RB depth. Anthony McFarland sounds like he's taken some steps forward, but do you think we need to add a back that could potentially carry a bigger load in the event of injury? Or, do you feel most teams don't have more than 2 viable guys?
Gerry Dulac
11:02
We'll see about him taking steps forward because we've seen that from him before in past camps. But, for now, he is the No. 3 guy. His value will come in catches out of the backfield where he can use his speed to gain mismatches against LBs. We have seen that repeatedly in camp. As long as Steelers stay away from injuries, they should be OK. They are not going to sign one of those big-name backs unless there is a significant injury to one of the top two guys

Pickett seems to be marginal on pass completions inside the 20 when under pressure according to some of the practice report "stats". 2nd year and still struggling against teammates.?? Shouldn't he be dominating??
Gerry Dulac
11:03
No, not really. Don't read into camp stats, good or bad. They mean NOTHING

Hey Gerry! After what happened in the preseason last year, why would Tomlin be so adamant in playing 90,97,22 and so on tomorrow? Thanks!
Gerry Dulac
11:04
He won't. You forgot 39, 20, 18

Hello Gerry...if we assume the initial depth chart is 'real', who do you see promote first out of Porter, Benton and Jones?

I'm concerned about Pickens not getting separation and having to push off a lot. Your thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:05
He does push off a lot. But when you run a bunch of sideline routes, it's hard to get a lot of separation because the sideline is like an extra defensive back.

Gerry, who is winning the punter competition up until now?  Harvin causes me heartburn every time he takes the snap from the center because he is so inconsistent.  Don't the coaches see that?
Gerry Dulac
11:05
They see it. But they don't see a better option. At least, not right now

Gerry, thanks for putting up with us. Do you think the K Greene Fullback Experiment will actually bear fruit? Or is it a "wait and see" type of deal. Thanks in advance.
Gerry Dulac
11:06
It could because they don't have a real fullback on the roster. And it gives them the flexibility of having a ninth OLineman

GM Gerry, will the Steelers keep 4 TE'S this year?  Or is Gentry odd man out ?  I hope they keep all four. Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:07
They will keep all THREE -- Freiermuth, Gentry and Washington. Let's face it, Heyward isn't a TE. He's more of a HB, Flex guy. But he is a baller and he's a lock.

Does Trubisky look more comfortable than in last years training camp?  Down the stretch last year he was much more aggressive than early on…I assume due to familiarity w the system/players.
Gerry Dulac
11:08
Yes he does. And he looks very good. I've said it before -- when he came off the bench last year when Pickett was injured, it was the best QB play they received all season.

Kenny Pickett did not have a preseason with the starting unit and did not practice with the starting unit until he was thrust into the starting lineup during the jets game.  I don't know why they say he has a low ceiling.  I feel like he has the tools and the moxie to be a good too great starting quarterback in the NFL.  What are your thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
I agree in part. Your reasoning is spot on. But I hold off on the "great" proclamations" because it's way too early. Plus, I saw what Ben Roethlisberger did when he came in. It was easy to see "great" then.

Gerry thanks for the time and the chat. Have you noticed improvement in the offense from this time last year? Does it appear they may let KP audible out of plays this season or is he still going to be forbidden to do it.  Thank you
Gerry Dulac
11:10
We'll see. BR wasn't allowed to audible, even though he did, and he was 18 years into the league.

Gerry! I’m in nyc how can see the game Friday?
Gerry Dulac

I don't know.

Thanks for the chats Gerry.  When it comes to camp dominance don't you want to see a level of balance?  If the Offense dominates then do we have a problem on D and vice versa.  In all your years and experience watching multiple camps are you able to predict season success (or not)
Gerry Dulac
11:13
No, because it's training camp and the level of intensity and speed can't compare to the regular season, especially for veterans. Plus, different players are being viewed at different positions so coaches can evaluate them. And they are not being game-planned against by the other coordinators. I actually take very littler stock in what I see in training camp, other than if an individual continually stands out. Kinda like what we saw last year with George Pickens.

Hey Gerry! How many games into the season do you think it takes to get a real feel for the success of the team?  I think it’s around 5-6.
Gerry Dulac
11:13
I'd say that's about right. Maybe even more. Maybe the halfway point.

Gerry, I like that Tomlin intends to play the regulars in the first game. Hope he continues to give them playing time in all three games. Your take?
Gerry Dulac
11:13
He says that but he won't.

Ben R. second pass was a pick. You believe you could tell he was going to be great from that?
Gerry Dulac
11:14
You saw it long before that. Well, you didn't.

Love your work. Thanks.Pickens hubris hasn’t been earned. Has a mentor been assigned to help him tone it down. I so believe humility leads to success
Gerry Dulac
11:15
I do too. It certainly leads to greater respect.

Hey Gerry.  It seems like camp isn't what it used to be decades ago.  Aren't there less padded practices and less live tackling?  How does this help players prepare for actual games?  Shouldn't camp and preseason games simulate regular season games as much as possible?
Gerry Dulac
11:16
You are correct, but that all changed with collective bargaining, player safety and inflated contracts. And it's not going back. And, no, they shouldn't simulate regular seasons for one simple reason -- THEY DON'T COUNT
