Hi Gerry. In your opinion, what’s limiting this team the most from becoming a serious contender, players or coaches? The depth on defense seems to have improved but not convinced they’ve got enough to be a top 10 defense. The seem to have enough talent on O, albeit young, to contend but don’t seem to be able to take advantage of defenses like they should.

I agree with the offensive assessment. Good talent, but young. Defense has added a lot of new bodies and should be improved, though I believe they need another stud DLineman now that Cam is 34. They had him with Tuitt, but he's gone. I think they're contenders, but not serious contenders. Not until we see how good the QB can actually be.

Hey Gerry!  Really surprised about all the K Green talk lately.  Didn’t think there was a chance in hell he would make the team this year. Is he really worth a roster spot as a fullback?  Want to see if he’s improved enough in his natural position and can take a spot over Anderson, Dotson, etc.  not that we ever used a fullback when we had one. Lol.  Thanks for all you do!

Well, that's why they're taking a long look -- to see if it's worth keeping him. He would be FB/9th Olineman, but I don't think he will beat out Spencer Anderson, for starters. And, if it wasn't for this experiment, he probably wouldn't beat out Kevin Dotson. It's intriguing, that's for sure.

What do we do if the offense actually looks good this year? I still want Canada gone.

Well, then, there would be no reason to get rid of him. It just depends what "looks good" means. Randy Fichtner was not rehired when the offense averaged 26.1 points his final season, which is 8 points more than the offense averaged in 2022

I've read where Najee Harris doesn't rank among the league's elite RBs.  I see a guy who has averaged over 1400 scrimmage yards per season where he was hurt for some of that time, and that doesn't seem too bad to me.  My question is do you think Najee's numbers will rank among the elite if he remains healthy this season?

I wouldn't put him among the elite, either, at least, not yet. His yards per carry are slightly above average and he doesn't have many, if any, game-breaking runs. That's not elite to me.

Is JPjr weak on run support? Also, has Jones been struggling to show he’s capable of taking and holding the LT1 spot out of the gate?  Thanks

Roberts and Alexander stand out for their aggressiveness and big hits. Same with Robinson. Holcomb is more of a complete LB -- not flashy but steady. But it won't start out by committee. It will be Holcomb and Roberts

I think they are least one game better than 9-8 when they missed the postseason by one game. So, yes

I know the Steelers really like Connor Heyward generally, but how do you think he'll actually be deployed if not as a TE or true FB?  Will we see him in a lot of two-back sets?  I'm just trying to picture what a consistent presence for him in the offense beyond a few snaps a game might look like. Thanks for considering my question.

Like I said earlier, he is a baller. He won't have a consistent presence in the offense, but he will be a good weapon, however they plan to use him.

That's hard to say because they do like to use Gentry to block. But you will see him get worked in there a lot.

Is Canada as arrogant as he seems in the little we see of him?  Haley was like that but Haley was a proven great OC.  MC is not so maybe try and be a little more likable.
