In the piece written on Joe Walton it was indicated that Bubby Brister actively sabotaged the offense. If this is true, why wasn't he replaced? Was this well known at the time or did it come out after the fact? I find it amazing. I am old enough to remember how putrid those offenses were for 2 seasons. They ended up being Chuck Noll's final two years. It was widely reported that part of the reason Noll retired was that he was being pressured to replace Walton. Can you elaborate on this situation a bit? Thanks!!
Gerry Dulac
10:47
I don't think that's the reason at all that Noll retired. I think he had just had enough of a number of things, including the players. I'm not sure Bubby actively sabotaged the offense, but he and the other players didn't like it or get it, especially after the success they had the year before when they appeared to be on the rise. Walton's offense set them back, they believed, and they rebelled.

Roche out, Jamir Jones on?
Gerry Dulac
10:48
We'll see. They like to hold on to their draft choices unless they think they are busts

Tebow is now done, (at least for now), and all I can think about is that pass in Denver years ago.  As we look back at his career, is there any other moment that distinguishes his time in the NFL other than that pass?   I can't think of any.
Gerry Dulac
10:48
None. That was it -- one shining moment

One camp insists the OL will be better because we are younger.  Another camp is concerned that they have not been able to practice together, and don't believe they will not be a 'unit' at the start of the season.  What is your view of the OL at this midpoint of the pre season?
Gerry Dulac
10:50
They have plenty of time to practice and play together. The season doesn't start for another 3 1/2 weeks. That mindset is completely overblown

Do you really believe that Berry might beat out Harvin for the punting duties this year?  Harvin would be scooped up in a second by another team.  What are we missing here, Berry was released last year for an aging veteran who no longer had it.
Gerry Dulac
10:50
No I don't.

All those likening Haskins to the second coming of QBs should watch some of the preseason film. Mostly very short dump passes and a lot of wounded duck balls flopping around in the air . Luckily some made it to the wide open receivers.  How about some thread the needle throws? Oh Wait, there hasn't been any. It is way to early to christen Haskins over Rudolph or Ben... Hahahahahah.. If he passes anyone it would be Dobbs at this point
Gerry Dulac
10:52
The only people christening Haskins over Rudolph at this juncture are the people who don't know. The only way it is happening this year if is Ben gets hurt, Rudolph struggles when he plays and they want to try another option. Much like they did with Duck a couple years ago.

Does Christian kuntz unseat Kameron Kanaday?  If the skill sets are close, does saving $1M factor into the equation?
Gerry Dulac
10:52
Money always factor in to the equation.

hi Gerry, what the latest on T J watt contract
Gerry Dulac
10:52
They are progressing

Hi Gerry, Do see TJ contract getting done soon and what about adding a cb in a trade ? Thank you
Gerry Dulac
10:53
I do, more so than a trade for a CB. I think they are done trading, barring injury

Gerry, the disrespect of Big Ben has no bounds. He took a sizable paycut this off-season to improve the team around him. No other player is asked to do this. How is that fair and what should we make of TJ Watt's insistence that he be the highest paid player at his position? His playoff track-record has been horrid!
Gerry Dulac
10:55
People are appalled when a player signs a big contract, but they never say a word when a player takes a $5 million pay cut. Hey, that's $5 million. I don't care how much he makes. That's still a bunch of $$$$. As for Watt, I have no issue with him wanting to be the highest paid at his position. Doesn't mean he will.
ErnieHartnerMr.305LIT
10:55
Why has everyone been so forgiving of TJ Watt's not-so disguised hold out? He is under a contractual obligation to play this season. LeVeon Bell was not afforded such support by the fans and media, despite him abiding by his contract. Is this racial?
Gerry Dulac
10:56
No it is not. But, unlike Bell, Watt is at practice every day.

Gerry, I'm hearing that T.J. Watt wants a $150M contract with $100M fully guaranteed. The Steelers have never paid a player that kind of money. Do you think the Steelers will pay and guarantee that kind of money to a player not playing QB?
Gerry Dulac
10:57
Nope. And where you hearing that??
Utah Jim
10:57
Is it just me or are the RBs lining up a yard or two deeper than normal?
Gerry Dulac
10:57
I think they look deeper cause the QB is under center more.

10:58
Will Danny Smith make the decision on our next punter? I certainly hope not, outside of his ability to chew 50 pieces of gum at once, he has not seem qualified for such a decision. Special teams has been a consistently inconsistent under his regime.
Gerry Dulac
10:58
He will have a lot of input of course. But all decisions are made by Mike Tomlin, Kevin Colbert and even Art Rooney II.

Hi Gerry.   Just wondering where the negotiations stand with TJ and the Steelers as I see he's not really practicing until that issue is resolved?   Any end in site?   Secondly, with the restructure of Tuitt, where do you see Colbert and the Steelers using that money?  Thank you.
Gerry Dulac
11:01
Of course there is an end and I'm sure it will be soon. As for Tuitt, I think the Steelers already used some of that money to accommodate Joe Schobert's cap hit, which is $7.3 million

Harvin or Berry?
Gerry Dulac
11:01
Harvin. But don't leverage the mortgage

Good day Gerry, would it be wise for the Steeler to register Kendrick Green in the annual Running with the Bulls to help him understand what a real Bull rush feels like?

Will we see the projected starting offensive line together in the next pre season game?  Have you seen Ben throw deep much in camp?
Gerry Dulac
11:02
I've seen Ben throw deep, across the middle, to the sideline, roll out, play action. And the strength of his arm should never be questioned. He has been doing it all.
