jerry , i saw an ex steeler say ben threw 4 int's in practice, sounds like he's in mid season form!!!!!! what do u think or no answer again
Gerry Dulac
11:03
Oh, I'll give you an answer -- IT'S PRACTICE!!! Big deal.

Danny Smith basically said despite PH3 draft status it's not a guarantee they'll go with him at Punter. You have to think though even if the punting battle remains close they go with PH3 right? Especially given Berry's history of inconsistency
Gerry Dulac
11:05
Of course it's not a guarantee, nor would he ever say if it were. But, after bringing in an aging Dustin Colquitt last year and cutting Berry, there is nothing to make me think they won't cut him again, this time for a younger guy with a powerful leg.

Gerry thanks for the chat. A lot of folks seem obsessed with who will be on the field defensively against the pass - 55 or 45.  Why not both.  Both can go side line to side line.  Both can cover - although 45 seems better suited for it. Both can blitz.  Both can cause turn overs.  Together45 and 55 look to resemble what Tampa had with their ILBs last year.
Gerry Dulac
11:06
You will see both. But Schobert was not brought in to replace Bush in their defenses. Why would they do that?

Do you think the Steelers are smart to put their trust in  Haskins to act like a professional? I don’t know that a leopard can totally change its spots in just a few months.
Gerry Dulac
11:06
I think they are willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for now. For now.

Will Steelers fans ever truly appreciate Colbert? The Minkah trade for a 1st previously and now getting Schobert for a 6th AND getting Jax to pay some his salary, brilliant moves on top of the FA's hes brought in on Defense.

KC is one of the best!!

Green is short and light for a center.  Had minimal experience playing the position for an also ran Big 10 team. Why is he the front runner?
Gerry Dulac
11:07
Did you see what's behind him? He will be fine. You don't want a tall center anyway

With the additional of Ingram and Schobert, getting Bush back healthy and the development of of some of the other young's guys do you think we have a top 3 defense?
Gerry Dulac
11:08
It's tough when you lose 3 starters, but they will be fine.

Hi Gerry -  Assuming TJ plays like he did last year and with new adds to LB room and all reports on 56 year 2 development, would it be a stretch to say the first five LBs for this year would be the best group since.........ever?
Gerry Dulac
11:08
That would be a stretch. Big time

Terrell Edmunds seems to be keeping his spot, but doesn't to live up to the#1 pick he was. Do think they are just waiting untilnext year to use another #1 pice to replace him or do they ha e someone on the roster waiting in the wings
Gerry Dulac
11:09
Right now I don't think they think they have someone on the roster who will immediately step in. Maybe Antoine Brooks. Maybe Tre Norwood. But I don't see them bringing him back. Doesn't make any plays

Is any single non-quarterback player really worth 12-15% of the cap like Watt is projected? Have the Steelers ever given so much to a defender?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
No. And no.

D Line depth.  Wormley doesn’t seem motivated to play, I. Loudermilk seems to be a project (a little slow, little gassed early and technique needs a lot of progress).  With the aging starters on D Line and lack-luster depth does the D Line take center stage as a weakness since improving the ILB core?
Gerry Dulac
11:12
To me, they need to draft a DLineman somewhere by the third round, even before, to improve their depth and start the replacement process for their older guys. Loudermilk was fine -- he needs to get stronger -- but they have to be more committed to that position than drafting guys on the fifth, sixth (Buggs) and seventh rounds (Davis).

Honestly, how has Ben looked in camp?
Gerry Dulac
11:12
Terrific. Honest

11:12
we hear a lot about schoberts ability to cover… can he stuff the run?  Should we be concerned about stopping the run since we no longer have Williams?
Gerry Dulac
11:13
I think he is a nice player who allows Spillane to go back to the role for which he was intended -- backup

Good Morning Gerry.  Art Rooney and Kevin Colbert must be very concerned about how the contract and guaranteed money to go to TJWatt this year will help set the price for Mincah, next year.  Your thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:14
They're not concerned. But they're very much aware. They are not a team that hands out a lot of guaranteed money.

Is their actually a battle for the number 2 QB or is Mason the number 2 no matter what?
Gerry Dulac
11:14
There is no battle

Hi Gerry,  I am really concerned about the corner's on the team. Do you think that's the week spot? Other than Haden it seems real thin. Thanks
Gerry Dulac
11:15
Well, you don't lose a starter like Steve Nelson and think you have improved. Basically what it does it move everyone up a notch on the depth chart. But I will say they really like James Pierre.
Yates

Gerry/. Why not keep Sexton over Ray Ray whose performance fell off as last year unfolded?
Gerry Dulac
11:16
Not the most far-fetched thing I've been asked today, tho I don't see it happening

Are Steelers CBs good enough to cover elite receivers? If so, Steelers D could be top 10 this year. I am worried though...
Gerry Dulac
11:16
It takes elite CBs to cover elite receivers. Not every team has one, let alone two.

11:17
How likely is it that another team signs Dobbs if the Steelers cut him and try to place him on the practice squad? Is he comparable to other teams' options in the 4th string slot?
Gerry Dulac
11:17
I think it might be very likely. I will say this -- Dobbs has looked very good in camp. But I don't see them keeping him as the No. 3 guy.

Has Kevin Colbert ever discussed the Steelers decision to pass on Darius Leonard in the aftermath of Ryan Shazier's injury...in favor of Terrell Edmunds?  Having Leonard around would have avoided the big investment needed to trade up for Bush, plus he seems to be the better player of the two...   Seems like a big and costly mistake in hindsight.
Gerry Dulac
11:18
Easy to say now. But I liked Darrius Leonard when he was coming out. Thought he'd bee a good fit for the Steelers for all the reasons you suggested.
