What are the weaknesses in Mason Rudolph’s game that led the Steelers to sign Trubisky and draft a QB in first round? I really don’t see any glaring weaknesses.
Gerry Dulac
11:12
I think they look at the totality of his game, what he was able to do in the 10 games he started and the others he played. Mason Rudolph is Neil O'Donnell. You can win games with him but you're always looking to add someone better. And that's why they are doing.

The Steelers' 'Bumble Bee' jerseys look surprising like ones worn by the Stooges in 'Three Little Pigskins (1934). The Steelers wore it in 1933. Any connection?

11:13
I'll ask 'em, OK

What are you looking for in this next preseason game?  I want to see how Kenny Pickett fairs against better competition, and improvement in the run defense.
Gerry Dulac
11:15
All anyone wants to see is how Kenny Pickett fairs against any competition. He is going to get more of a shot against Jax and I wouldn't be surprised to see him start in the final preseason game if the Steelers think Mitch Trubisky has it down. Either way, the Steelers both want to gauge and accelerate Pickett's progress and the only way to do it is let him play as much as he can. They already know what Mason Rudolph can do. Honestly, there is no need for them to evaluate him. They've had 5 years to do so.

If Kenny Pickett continues to excel in pre-season games, is there any chance he becomes the week one starter?
Gerry Dulac
11:15
Not unless there is an injury

Gerry, it seems the competition at reciever and running back is pretty solid. Would we keep 3 RB and 6 WR or 3 and 5?
Gerry Dulac
11:16
It might be 4 and 6

Do you envision Rashed making the team as a backup OLB? I am concerned about the depth at this position outside of Watt and Highsmith. Thanks!
Gerry Dulac
11:16
They are looking at all possibilities, and they should. Because what they have behind 90 and 56 is not very encouraging.

Gerry, Do you think we'll see the starting line play longer with Pickett getting reps in the 1st half?
Gerry Dulac
11:17
Yes.

What will they do with D. Bush if he doesn't up his game?  He's a liability out there, not that Spillane is much better.  Is it possible he'll be a high priced ST player only, or will they continue to march him out there and watch him get torched. Here's hoping we can pick up someone better after cuts are made.
Gerry Dulac
11:18
I think they are going to live with what they have. But, yes, Bush is a liability against the run and Spillane is likewise against the pass.

Gerry, do you think the defense will be better without Butler being the DC? Or better with the additional personnel?
Gerry Dulac
11:19
Do not forget the other defensive coordinator -- Mike Tomlin

Was really impressed with Boykin in Game 1 and would love to seem more. Nice big body out there and he could be a weapon in the red zone.  Plus great ST player. Chances he makes the team?
Gerry Dulac
11:20
Very observant about special teams. Made two big plays for them on that unit, which only enhances his ability to make the team. I already had him as my sixth WR, even before Anthony Miller's injury

Hi Gerry, The Steelers are 80-1 odds to win the Super Bowl.  Should I place a $100 bet?
Gerry Dulac
11:20
OPM. I only accept it, not spend it

Has the Roquan Smith ship sailed? I would love for the Steelers to trade for him but do they have cap space to pull it off? Spillane and Bush looked horrible Saturday and from the reports I've heard they both look bad in practice as well.
Gerry Dulac
11:23
You are supposing the mast was erected for sailing. Have you seen Roquan Smith's price tag? Do you think the Steelers can add another $60-$70 million player?? After what they've spent on 90 and 39, not to mention 97?

Being in Cincy I sure hope the Steelers have a winning season or I'll be killed by my neighbors.

GM Gerry, in reference to WR  Chase Claypool, do you foresee the Steelers giving him an extension next March? The Steelers rarely ever trade their players, but do you think they would trade CC?
Gerry Dulac
11:23
Extension...nope. Trade..not now

11:23
Do you think Mason is realistic and would be content with being a career backup in Pittsburgh behind Pickett?  MT is not and will look to start somewhere after the Steelers.
Gerry Dulac
11:24
That is supposing Kenny Pickett will be the starter, and that is not the plan right now. Eventually yes. But not now
FanInCincy
11:24
Gerry, what do you think about the Big 10 TV contract at 7 billion? Can't call those kids armatures anymore. It'll be interesting how it affects the NFL drafts. Will more busts occur with kids getting paid big bucks?
Gerry Dulac
11:25
Sign of the times and it's ruining college athletics. Right up there with the transfer portal
Kris
11:25
Would the 7th round QB, Oladokun, make it to the practice squad if cut or would another team claim him?
Is it better to trade Mason for anything, roll with Pickett as the backup and keep both rookies on the 53?
Better not to go 8-8-1 with Mason...
Gerry Dulac
11:26
Could happen, though not likely
Kris
11:26
Johnson is looking really smart for taking the contract extension? all the other wr's that are stepping up and no Ben with his 1.7 second release times...
Gerry Dulac
11:26
True true

Surprise teams, injuries, and the unexpected always rock the pre-season prognosticators. Yes, the AFC is loaded with strong teams, but who saw the Bengals breaking through? Can't the same happen for the Steelers? Maybe not the Super Bowl, but at least a playoff run.
Gerry Dulac
11:26
Absolutely. Injuries can reshape a season very quickly

What player on the team do you think will show the most growth from last year to this year?

Loudermilk for sure. Zach Gentry
