Going back to KJ... you can't show it in a game if you aren't in the game. There must be something in the practices that is causing him to not be used?
Gerry Dulac
10:51
Maybe they use him more this week. Preseason games are to take a look at a lot of people and answer questions. Maybe they wanted to see if Homer, a special teams guy, can be a dependable RB?

Aren’t there only three roster decisions to be made? Four QBs vs. three, Homer vs. Heidenreich, and Kaleb Johnson vs. a seventh DL? Seems to me everything else is obvious.

I think you got the players mixed up for your camp battles.

Gerry…hellooo! Training camp is very conflicting for most of us. On one hand, we want the O to move the ball and score TDs but also want the D to dominate and shut down everything. So if one makes a big play, it’s like a mix of excitement and anxiety because that means we may have a big concern on the other side of the ball. Help us balance this roller coaster of emotions!
Gerry Dulac
10:54
Alas, I can't when you think that way. Defenses aren't going to dominate and shut down everything, especially this defense. maybe any defense. This isn't 1976 after all. Actually you and the coaches share a common denominator -- balance. Yours involve emotions. Theirs involve execution

Hi Gerry, thanks for the chats.

Should we not read too much in to MM's comments about the team having a 1st round grade on Allar?  I seem to remember the previous administration saying the same thing about Mason when they took him in the 3rd round.
Gerry Dulac
10:55
Correct. I wouldn't read too much into it, other than MM really liked Allar. That was the QB he wanted in the third round, even if Carson Beck were still available

Good morning Gerry.  If Max is not ready to go by the last preseason game, does the team trust him to eventually play this season...or does he miss his window?  Being a 1st round pick, I would hope they'd give him every chance to start but under the last head coach...that probably would not have happened.
Gerry Dulac
10:57
That was the last head coach. But always keep in mind, a non-Super Bowl team doesn't draft a player on the first round to have him sit around and eat popcorn. Max will eventually play.

Is there any shot Lou Nichols makes the team?
Gerry Dulac
10:57
Sure, but it might be slim

Gerry, is QB the leader in the clubhouse for what position the Steelers draft in round 1 in 2027? And on the flip side, was the future QB for 2027-28 season in Latrobe this season?
Gerry Dulac
10:58
That's what we're going to find out. But, as for the leader in the clubhouse, yes

Good Morning Gerry, Thanks for the chats. Going into preseason game 2, who are you eyeing that needs to make an impact to solidify a roster spot? Thanks for your insight.

Gerry: the Steelers have now handed out about $53 million per year worth of contracts to three players who project as backups to three players (Watt, Friermuth, Heyward) who average about $70m per year total and either are in decline or under performed in 2025 or both.  Is this prudent cap management by the Khan artist?
Gerry Dulac
10:59
I think they are taking full advantage of an expanded salary cap and not having a $100 million QB
Mr Rooney

Gerry. Thank you for the chats kind sir. ESPN dumped on the Steelers pretty hard ranking them 30th out of 32 franchises. Behind even the Jets even?!? I understand the aging argument and that QB remains middling in this upcoming season and very unclear beyond. But 30th?!?!?? IMO there is a good deal of young talent pushing for more playing time after a few successful drafts. And by position groups the Steelers look decidedly stronger and deeper as well. Secondary and D-line in particular are pointing significantly upwards. O-line has the draft picks but remains an open question. RB's WR's...even TE's look stronger too. So I dunno, am I misguided or is this yet another example of national pundits not getting into the details and making a quality assessment of the franchise. Granted not winning SB's sux. But to call the consistent level of winning in PGH "mediocre" just sounds wrong to me. What say you?
Gerry Dulac
10:59
That's all you need to know about ESPN and the idiots who put that together.

With respect, I don't agree - I love your appearances on the Rich Eisen show and your are very enthusiastic.  <smile>

Haha. I think Rich brings that out in me!

Does the kid from Lebo end up on PS? They certainly seem to be trying out his versatility (running, receiving, returning?) The Swiss Army idea of things has an appeal...no?
Gerry Dulac

More than likely

Is Omar Kahn signing guys ahead of JP causing the delay in his contract or is it they don't feel he is a 30 million AAV player? This seems to be market rate for a shut down corner.
Gerry Dulac
11:01
No, he's signing them because they are amenable to getting a deal done. So what does that tell you....??

Is Allar's ankle injury 100% healed and a nonfactor now?
Gerry Dulac

Non-factor

Why even waste a roster spot on Johnson? There is absolutely nothing he brings to the table.
Gerry Dulac

There must be something.

Hi Gerry, how would Nick Herbig compare to Chad Brown in his prime? He's similar stature and seems to have a simialr style of athleticism. Does he also have similar inside-outside capabilities?
Gerry Dulac
11:02
I think Herbig has a way to go before comparing him to Chad Brown
OK kids, that's all the time we have today. Let's try it again next week
