OK kids, we will start our chat is just a few minutes....

Ok here we go...fire away

Obviously the passing game lacks a sold, go-to #2 receiver. Is this the year that they make an in-season trade to solve this defeciency?
Gerry Dulac
10:00
I doubt it at this point. Now, an injury to Pickens could change that...

When will Mason be the QB1 in TEN? Levis was awful week 1.
Gerry Dulac
10:00
I bet soon

Fast forward a week or two. We're potentially 3-0 and Fields is improving each week while Russ sits out as an emergency 3rd thinking he's good enough to play. Do you think he requests a trade? There's not much sand left in that hourglass and there's teams (Giants again?) that might be up for it. Maybe get a 4th back to offset the impending loss of our 4th to the Bears?
Gerry Dulac
10:00
I think it's way too early now, and will be in Week 4, too, to start hypothesizing that

Don't get the excitement and praise over Justin Fields' performance Sunday. Couldn't finish drives. Missed many short route, wide open receivers with off the mark throws. Lots of "happy feet" and indecisiveness in the pocket.  Taking off is a nice compliment..But.....I saw nothing about this QB play that was any better than last year. I saw a lot of reasons why he was 8-28 with the Bears.  Do you agree?
Gerry Dulac
10:01
I don't mostly disagree. The only way you're going to keep winning like that is if you have Chris Boswell and TJ Watt

Gerry, can you feel me on this? As Steelers fans, we are used to pulling for our draft picks as they develop. On Sunday, it didn’t feel like a Steelers game at all! We had failed back ups from other teams - Justin Fields at quarterback, throwing the ball to Mycole Pruitt, and handing off the Cordell Patterson. Can you feel me?
Gerry Dulac

I hear ya loud and clear, my friend

Hi Gerry!  Long time reader here in Eagle country, grew up in western PA.  I'd like your take on the value of a running QB like Fields vs a more accurate pocket passer like Wilson who can throw over the middle.  My fear is that in going with Fields, we are going to experience the Kordell Stewart years again, of a running QB who just wasn't very good throwing the ball.  Thanks
Gerry Dulac
10:04
I think we discovered Kordell was much better throwing the ball than Fields. There is a difference in the NFL between a mobile QB and a running QB. Russell Wilson was a mobile QB, Fields is a running QB. There are few exceptions who are both, maybe Lamar Jackson, of course. But he hasn't made it to the Super Bowl either

Gerry since Tomlin has admitted he is disingenuous in his press conferences, why believe anything he says? But it does appear that we are watching in real time as Wilson goes from volunteer to “hostage”!

10:05
I was told a long time ago believe half of what you see and none of what you hear.

In the Atlanta game, Justin Fields was simply a replay of Kenny Pickett in my opinion. He didn’t turn the ball over, managed the game, and didn’t score any touchdowns. That’s what we had last year. The injuries to cousins and Rogers last year should have reminded them that older quarterbacks are subject to injury like Russell Wilson is. Hence Omar Khan doesn't seem very smart to me. I’m still not understanding why Mason Rudolph was not signed and elevated to “pole position” if they really wanted to move on from Pickett. Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
10:07
They didn't want to move on from Pickett. He forced their hand when they signed Wilson. And when they signed Wilson, Mason saw the writing on the way and went elsewhere because he would have been No. 3 again if Pickett didn't throw a fit and request a trade. Mason intended to stay, and the Steelers were already talking to him about re-signing until Wilson was signed.

Good morning, Gerry. I just placed a very large bet that Bill in LA will make a KP reference after the Steelers showing in Atlanta. What say you?
Gerry Dulac
10:07
And you win!!

Good morning, Gerry. I know a lot of the fans are a bit down on the offense, but I will take no turnovers and that time of possession to keep our defense fresh.
Gerry Dulac
10:08
Yes. And it's only one game -- the first game. Things change
HeHateMe210:08Why am I the only one that believes in Fields and hoping he's our future starting QB? He played for Chicago and each year he had 3 different OCs.
10:09
And each year he averaged 3.3 wins

What makes Tomlin so good at winning close games?  The numbers are getting too large to be a fluke.  What do you see that drives that unique success?
Gerry Dulac
10:10
He stresses no turnovers and defense. Boring but effective

Hi Gerry, in reading and listening to you over the past few months, it seems you might feel that the Steelers need to give their D line some attention someday soon - i.e. draft a stud D lineman someday/year soon.
Gerry Dulac
10:10
You read and listen well Iowa. Must be those EARS of corn, eh?

Gerry,......I was not in favor of the Steelers and their pursuit of Brandon Aiyuk.  But, and this is a BIG but, after watching who the Steelers trotted out there last Sunday, besides George Pickens, he really would have looked good beside Pickens.  Hopefully a healthy Roman Wilson can help?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
Agreed, but don't hold your breath on Roman Wilson helping anytime soon. He missed the entire preseason, and as a rookie that's tough to catch up. They will try to do so, tho.

Gerry,   I was not in favor of the Steelers and the pursuit of Brandon Aiyuk.  I thought way tooooo much money and what ever else they would have to give the 49ers  .

10:12
I was, and I think the reasons will become obvious

Hi Gerry,  Referring to Fields, It Is one thing to say you are confident in your abilities, but it is better to show it on the field.  Justin has a label, fair or not of making mistakes at critical times during a game.    Don't you think his play against the Falcons is the beginning of erasing the label?
Gerry Dulac
10:13
It was one game. I give him credit for the way he performed. But he has a lot of erasing to do if he is to change his past habits
Rich
10:13
If Fields can’t prove that he can throw on time over the middle then he’s not an NFL caliber quarterback. How do we go an entire game without even one time attempting this?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
Cause that's not his strength, and they were probably wise enough to play to what his strengths are and away from his weaknesses.
Rich
10:14
Why not leave the tackles as is right now, and play Fautanu at guard until Isaac S is healthy?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
Because it would be a short-term move and they don't want Fautanu trying to get adjusted to the NFL at two positions.

Anyone that thinks that what we saw Sunday is a winning formula is a fool. That formula will yield mediocrity and a butt kicking in round 1 of the playoffs. It's not a formula,  it's the best Tomlin can do.
Gerry Dulac
10:15
Let's hope it's not what we have to watch all season. Hey, it was one game. I like Arthur Smith and his plan. I'll give it more time.
