I have the solution to the offense issues.

1. Bring Ben back on a cap friendly deal.
2. Put Ben in at running back since we have no running game.
3. Let Ben call the play for the offense after the teams are lined up.
4. Kenny executes the play.

Tell Tomlin he's welcome. :)

Do the Steelers coaches think the offensive line has played as bad as they look to most fans?
Gerry Dulac
10:30
In the history of football, no coach ever thinks anything is as bad as a fan does.

good morning Gerry.  Tomlin in the last few years has been an ok DC, maybe good but not great.  Many good established DC were available this year but he opt to keep Austin.  Any chance in the near future he surrenders the DC role and let the likes of Schwartz, Fangio, Wilkes take over full DC duty so he could fully focus on offense or just being a CEO?
Gerry Dulac
10:33
I don't think Mike Tomlin focusing on offense and serving as the OC is the answer to their problem. And it doesn't appear to me that he is going to hire any DC and let him solely run the defense. The last person who got to do that was Dick LeBeau, and even then Tomlin had his fingerprints on the defense toward the end of LeBeau's stay. Which is why he was gone shortly after that, of course

Good Morning,  Do you see an inflection point coming where Coach Tomlin values the development of his potential franchise QB over loyalty or Ego to OC Canada?  The "Coaching Tree" subject has been well documented and that QB keeper call on 3rd and two is baffling.. At least Cowher knew to move on from Sherman and Gilbride...CHEERS
Gerry Dulac
10:37
I'd go easy on that potential franchise QB stuff. Good or bad, it takes more than 14 starts to determine the QB's future. And, yeah, that tree doesn't even have any leaves.

Deshaun Watson received 2 personalfoul penalties in Monday’s game.  Why wasn’t he ejected?
Gerry Dulac
10:38
Because it wasn't unsportsmanlike conduct.

Good morning.  Kenny looks a bit timid in the pocket.   What do you thing the issue is,concern about his line, concern about the play called, or confidence in his ability to execute?
Gerry Dulac
10:40
How about not sure what the defense is doing? Not saying that's it, but he has looked skittish in the pocket. And maybe it's not the play called -- most of the plays in the game plan are ones he likes or is comfortable with -- but rather he is not allowed to audible to another one.

Gerry vs. Najee in the 40.  Who wins?  My money is on you.
Gerry Dulac
10:40
I guess you're suggesting Najee is slow.

We are not using out tight-ends in the passing game and not one throw to the massive human wearing number 80.  Why are we not using these weapons?  Are they not open or are the plays not designed to get them into the game plan?
Gerry Dulac
10:44
No, they are open. Pickett missed a wide-open Freiermuth on a play when he threw a pass into coverage to Pickens on the sideline that was incomplete. But, like I said earlier, coverage usually dictates where a QB goes with the ball, even if he is intent on throwing to the TE

Am I missing something here, Seems their giving Joe Porter Jr.  major props for defending the pass to end the Browns drive. It appears to me the pass was uncatchable and was borderline Pass interference. What am I missing?

Nothing

What are your $.02 on the offensive line play? On one hand, they faced two of the best DLs in the league. On the other hand, they're supposed to be better. Sure their depth is reputedly better, but the did only swap in one new starter. Is it let's check back in in two more weeks situation?
Gerry Dulac
10:44
Yeah, I think that's advisable. They have not been very good so far, I agree. But, just like last year, I'm willing to give them a little more time to jell. That being said, unlike last year, there is only one new starter on the line this year.

Friermuth was seemingly a non- participant on Monday night.  Why has OC Canada not gotten a top 5 TE involved in our offense more?  Could be a young struggling QB’s best security blanket.  Frustrating as heck(G rating version), Gerry.
Gerry Dulac
10:48
That G-rated version is welcome. Everything else has been R-rated. And Freiermuth is a great security blanket. It's a good idea to get the ball to Pickens. But you have to be careful about forcing it.

Everyone talks about the Steelers MNF home win streak and I get it. What I want to know is how long is their losing streak for home openers? My family and I have a tradition of going to  the home opener every year and I can’t remember the last time they won one.

Gerry, since the offense played the best 2 defenses (at least at this time) in the NFL, there must be some optimism.  Or is this offense so bad that any defense will crush it?
Gerry Dulac
10:50
No, that has to be taken into account, no question. Now the Raiders....???

10:50
Gerry, why is Muth MIA in the offensive scheme? I thought he’d be used more with DJ out.
Gerry Dulac
10:50
Me too. Determined to get the ball to Pickens, which I get to a degree

Hi Gerry, Dan Olovsky recently opined that Kenny Pickett is not reading coverages well. He is missing one on one opportunities and staring down his receivers. Are the coaches and scheme to blame for this lack of improvement year 2?
Gerry Dulac
10:51
Not entirely. It's the QB's job to know that.

If KP continues to play as hapless and hopeless as he has, there is a scenario where the last four #1 picks (KP, Najee, Bush, Edmonds) are out of football at the end of next year (maybe KP remains as a clipboard holder). The last super bowl team was built because their #1 picks became stars. There's no way to recover from bad top picks, is there?
Gerry Dulac
10:54
For a draft to be successful, you have to hit a home run (at least a triple) with the No. 1 pick. But let's give it a little more time before anyone starts labeling their recent No. 1 picks a bust. But Bush, post-surgery, might qualify. Edmonds started every game since his rookie year. Wouldn't call that a bust. And no matter what you think of Najee, he has rushed for over 1,000 each of his first two seasons. Wouldn't call him a bust, either

Gerry - I don't buy the argument that Canada was only kept for continuity purposes with a rookie QB. Why waste another year when it's more than likely Canada will not be renewed, thus having Pickett learn a new offense with a new OC next season? Seems like the organization is just wasting another year having Canada as OC and stunting the development and growth of Pickett. Pickett has been terrible but seems like no qb would be successful in this embarrassment the Steelers call an offense.

Hi Gerry:  Thanks again for the chats.  It is sometimes hard to see on the TV view (horizontal), but a friend had some coaches view (vertical) of the SF and Cle games.  It is obvious for a non-expert like me: there are NO open holes for the running backs 95% of the time now.   Both SF and Cle O-lines open holes for their backs.   Why do you think the OL has  regressed so fast with an intact group plus Seumalo?
Gerry Dulac
10:56
That's the million-dollar question and probably the biggest surprise to me -- why has the line been so ineffective. Same four starters, one new acclaimed guard who was signed in free agency and no injuries. Puzzling.

Hey Gerry love the chat. What are the chances we see Broderick Jones starting. He can’t be worse than Moore. Thoughts?

Good morning, Gerry.  Why aren't the Steelers throwing deep or, at the very least, over the middle more often?  They did that once on Monday Night and Pickens scored.  I believe that the defenses are not defending it because they know that Canada prefers the safe screens and, gulp, jet sweeps.
Gerry Dulac
10:56
Uh, they did that three times to Pickens on Monday, if you didn't notice.
