Surely, you are correct. We're watching the same stuff we watched last year, and that wasn't very good until Ben took over in the fourth quarter.

Gerry, this is not college, why doesn’t a veteran QB not have the ability to check out of doomed play such as that failed third down play when he saw a free blitzed forcing him to throw hot well short of the sticks?
Gerry Dulac
10:27
Pay the man!!
Old Tom

In "The Wild Bunch", Cap'n Pike said, "When you side with a man, you stay with him."  I've always admired the Steelers apparent adherence to this maxim, maybe longer than was football wise in some cases.  Do you think following this principle in the case of, at least, Coach Canada, promises that the Steelers will end up in the football equivalent of the fate suffered by Captain Pike and his gang?
Gerry Dulac
10:28
Hahaha. Let's hope not, cap'n.

Why did the stadium folks wait until 2 minutes left in the game to play Renegade at the NE game?  It would have been more appropriate to play it when NE got the ball with 6 minutes to go.  Lets try to at least get the crowd involved.
Gerry Dulac
10:28
I have no idea. Couldn't believe it either.

The struggles of the offense have been well documented and overly discussed. Aside from the lack of turnovers, do you see any positives from the first two games that the team from the can use to build off of and start scoring some points in week 3 and beyond?
Gerry Dulac
10:28
None.

Good morning Gerry, I know the Steelers rarely fire a coordinator during the season. But how long does the patience last either for Canada or the QB position. Thank you for taking my question
Gerry Dulac
10:29
If one of the positions gets fixed in-season, it will be the QB, not the OC.

Gerry, With TJ out wouldn't it make more sense to go with 3 DLs and Highsmith as your four man pass rush rather than replace TJ with a 235 lb OLB? Is it time for the Steelers to actually play a 3-4 D?
Gerry Dulac
10:29
They did a lot of that against NE, in case you didn't notice.

Hi Gerry, I know we’re just fans not NFL players but there has to be something wrong with the offense play calling, Canada had all last season and 2 games this season it’s not working. Must find someone else now not after the year is over agree?
Gerry Dulac
10:30
I am not going to spend one second arguing  that point.

Hi Gerry, appreciate your chats over the years.  You and I are about the same age and I was wondering if you can recall the last time that there was a "real and honest" QB controversy in this city?  Bradshaw/Gilliam?  Bradshaw/Hanratty?  Or something else?
Gerry Dulac
10:31
There was never a QB controversy with Bradshaw or anyone else. But, to your question, I'd say the Kordell-Kent Graham flap might be the one you're looking for.

Why do defensive backs go for interceptions, are stats that important. In the New England game the 44 TD play if the ball was batted away it’s 4th down. PUNT, no TD. It was great coverage, for naught. Your thoughts!
Gerry Dulac
10:32
Well, it really wasn't great coverage. Yeah, Witherspoon was right there, but he let a smaller receiver go over top him and high-point the ball.

Hi Gerry, we are about where I expected we would be thus far, some concerns but some positives as well. My question is about the defensive line on the last series against the pats. It seems to me they were crowding the right side of the pats line on the short side of the field and the pats ran away from that bunch to the left side for drive sustaining 5-7 yard runs and ultimately ran out the clock. Not blaming that for the loss, and the defense has been way better than I had expected, but it just seemed odd that they did that for several plays in a row with no adjustment. Any insight into te logic of what they were doing there?
Gerry Dulac
10:34
I don't, sorry. But here's a novel idea -- maybe Mac Jones, a second-year QB, audibled and called for a run to the left side.

10:35
Gerry, why does it seem that opposing DC just have to run a cover one or cover three and slide a safety into the box and know the Steeler won’t adjust?
Gerry Dulac
10:35
Sometimes they do. It just hasn't worked out
Gus
10:35
GM Gerry, Always great to hear your insights. What are your thoughts on why the Steelers defense broke down so badly in the 4th quarter Sunday and cold not get off the field.  Does this foreshadow things to come?
Gerry Dulac
10:37
I can't point to a specific reason, but they failed to stop the run on nine of 10 plays and couldn't get off the field. When a team runs the ball like that and the defense is unable to stop it, it tears the soul out of the defense. That's two games in a row the defense failed to get off the field when they had to.

Good morning Gerry  watching the first 2 games and especially New England I didn't see Mitch stand in the pocket (if there was one) step up and pass.  He was mostly back pedaling and throwing. Only  once was onthe pass on the 2.  Maybe go back to the shotgun. Since by the time he gets back from under center. The "pocket" is now 7 yards beyond the border in Canadian territory ?
Gerry Dulac
10:38
He was throwing off his back foot and that's mostly due to pressure. And sometimes that happens when you don't have to freedom to audible out of a play that is designed to fail
Gus
10:38
GM Gerry, There were many suspicions about the quality of the offensive line but did anyone, you included, foresee it to be this poor especially in run blocking?
Gerry Dulac
10:40
Actually, I think they are worse at run blocking. Then, again, that falls on the RB, too, who is trying to hit a home run when a single or double will do. Crazy as it sounds, tho, I think the line is getting a little better each game. I realize I'm damning them with faint praise, but so be it.

Saw in Seen a photograph of Dan Rooney and his parents. How soon will we see young Dan’s impact on the Steelers?
Gerry Dulac

Cant tell you how long, but someday....

10:40
Gerry, why not move to Kenny now? The O-line is protecting adequately, at least the first two games. If they arent going to utilize Trubisky’s  mobility and play the dink/dunk game, you may as well turn it over to Kenny now.
Gerry Dulac
10:42
Not time yet. Let's see how this continues to unfold.
No Canada!!!!
10:42
Gerry, i know its not the Steelers way but how much longer is the team going to give Canada if the offense doesnt start to score more than a one td per game. this reminds me of the Joe Walton debacle
Gerry Dulac
10:42
Not a bad comparison!!

10:43
Hi Gerry, Although I think that a change in QB won't matter, I don't see why you draft a 24 year old QB first only to let him ride the pine.
Gerry Dulac
10:43
Well, because they don't want to throw him to the wolves if they don't have too. Patience, patience

Hey Gerry good morning!  What do you think might be Mike Tomlin‘s delay in relieving Matt Canada of his duties? Surely it Hass to be obvious our offense looks like it’s in a whole different league than the NFL and I hate to call it Junior varsity because that’s an insult to Junior varsity! One other question I miss your videos after the game with the Steelers report am I just not looking at the right place or have they stopped? Was always a great summation of the game. Thanks Gerry
Gerry Dulac
10:45
I don't see Mike Tomlin making a change in OC during the season, unless the bottom completely falls out. And it is only two games, though what we are watching so far looks painfully familiar to what we watched last season. As for the videos, I actually do a pre-game report on post-gazette.com, not a post-game report.

I couldn’t find your game picks last week. Did you make them?
