I keep reading and hearing that the Steelers O line needs time to "gel" but nobody ever really explains what they mean by that. It looks to me like each of them are just losing their individual battles at the LOS more often than not. That seems more about strength and will than scheme. What am I missing?
Gerry Dulac
11:31
Every offensive lineman in the history of the league will tell you that unit has to play as a whole, not as individuals. And that has to do with scheme and technique, not strength and will. I think most OLinemen have strength or they wouldn't be in there.

Gerry, you are wonderful. My question is: our running game is awful but we have Duane Haskins who has scrambling/running/passing skills on the bench. Why not bring him in on a few occasions to give the offence a spark. For just a few plays a game is all I am asking for.
Gerry Dulac
11:32
Well, Nick, he has to be active in order to do that and he's not as the third QB. But I hear ya

The Raider game was announced as a sellout, but lots of empty seats compared to other NFL games where every seat was filled.  Loing lines entereing the stadium and COVID related concerns surely the case, hoping this is resolved for this weekend -the team needs the energy, what do you think?
Gerry Dulac
11:33
The Steelers announce the true attendance -- how many people are in the stadium. They do not announce tickets sold like a lot of teams do.

Gerry, sorry if this is redundant, but why not try some sweep type runs? Pitch it to Najee moving toward the corners and see if that helps the line. Seems every run is more or less up the middle. Najee has the speed and cut back ability to do some variations on run types, I would think? I can't remember the last time a Steelers back had the ball pitched to him and he attempted to get an edge.
Gerry Dulac
11:34
Unless you have a true burner who can get to the edge -- or you're running a zone blocking scheme -- most sweep-type runs don't work in the NFL. Players are too fast. This isn't college. All these guys can run

how do the steelers fix the o-line if tomlin isn't going to make any changes in personnel?
Gerry Dulac
11:34
By playing more games. You have to give them more time than two games.

Hi Gerry, haven't seen much from Matt Canada to improve the offense versus last year yet (too bad Bruce Arians "retired"). If he's not doing anything to innovate and improve do Steelers go back to 100% shotgun to protect Ben and pass 50+ plays per game?
Gerry Dulac
11:35
That is not on their radar at all

11:35
Gerry, which stock should I invest in as the Steelers try to hold things together - Gorilla Glue, Duck Tape, or Flex Seal?  Or should I buy a penny stock and invest in the Steelers offensive line?
Gerry Dulac
11:35
That's clever.

Gerry - With improving the running game being such a high priority heading into this season, it is disappointing the team sits in last place after two games.  Still a lot of games left, but do you think that situation will improve?  Makes it much easier to defend against the Steelers when there is no threat of a credible running game.  Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
11:36
Agreed. And do I think it will improve? Well, not sure it can be any worse. Yes I do. I still think Harris is a stud

I notice that some QBs have wrist band they read from just before the huddle. Ben also used to have one in the past. What kind of does that have, albeit such a small band.
Gerry Dulac
11:36
Ben has one -- the flip-up type

Gerry, what's with all the groin injuries? Is this the new football moniker for hockey's "lower body injury"?
Gerry Dulac
11:37
Football has to be more specific. Not allowed to get away with that hockey nonsense.

Morning Gerry. I'm surprised Tomlin and Co. gave up on the run so early, especially when they were still in the game. The only way the O-Line is going to get better is to give them a chance. Derrick Henry ran for approx 35 yrds in the first half against Seattle. They did not abandoned the run because it wasn't working at first. Didn't the Steelers learn from last year that the dink and dunk got figured out?
Gerry Dulac
11:38
I understand, but let's not forget this offense is built around Ben and their four WRs and two TEs.
Where's My Clark Bar?
11:38
Gerry, Organizational concern that Steelers have so many "minor" injuries costing them available players on game-day? Is this a strength and conditioning coach responsibility or the players?
Gerry Dulac
11:38
No, it's called "Injuries happen."
John
11:39
I know it's only 2 games, but I'm not impressed with the offense play calling, your take?
Gerry Dulac
11:39
I'm not going to argue.

Good Day Sir!
If only someone had said do not pay silly $$$ for a Non-QB or that players that do not take part in training camp are at high risk of soft tissue injuries...
Gerry Dulac
11:40
I think all veteran players are at risk of soft tissue injuries early in the season because they do so little in the preseason.

Hi Kind Sir: What is the first thing you would change in the offense if you were in charge. (Why shouldn’t you be in charge, anyway!!!)
Gerry Dulac
11:41
I would change coordinators, offensive line coach, the scheme and technique the O-line uses and get a top RB. Wait.....they did that.

11:41
O Mystic Seer,
How long will it take for the "Offensive" line to gel?
Are the players on hand viable for a mid level rating by mid-season?
Gerry Dulac
11:42
So, you're saying this offensive line is "offensive" to your palate??

11:42
Gerry, do you think that J Haden "proved", by missing the last game, how valuable he is to the team's success, and that he should be resigned, or has he reached his 'used by" date?
Gerry Dulac
11:43
I think anytime Joe Haden misses a game it creates a problem for the secondary. They know that better than you and me. But I think he's going to be a tough re-sign in the offense, especially if he thinks he is going to get a long-term deal.

What's your thoughts on the progress of Kendrick Green and Dan Moore Jr. after 2 games. Thank you.
Gerry Dulac
11:43
I think their progress is very good. Very good
Jeff
11:44
Thanks for the chats Gerry.  At what point do you start saying we are who we are?  Yes, every Steeler fan lives in the moment but I am willing to let things play out, including MC's offensive game plan.  Just wondering how long I should give it...5? 6 games?
Gerry Dulac
11:45
It's a long season. You can't live in the moment. Otherwise, you would have looked into Super Bowl hotels last week, canceled them this week. Didn't you learn anything from 2005??
Utah Jim
11:45
We all knew the offense would struggle early in the season and should eventually improve. I thought game two was a little better than game one. Why all the panic?
Gerry Dulac
11:46
Because that's what fans do. Just like everyone was delirious last week after Buffalo
