That term is over-used. I think he can be a pretty good QB from what I saw.
Silent Bob

Hi Gerry - why the lack of any kind of downfield passing game? Offensive line + AR's immobility not allowing enough time? Arthur Smith's strategy to keep it short? Something else? Seems like they should take some shots to keep the defense from playing too close.
Gerry Dulac
10:32
I think the reasons you mentioned are pretty good ones.
Enough is Enough
10:33
Arthur Smith is Not the problem, Todd Haley, Dick Lebeau and Bruce Arians were not the problems... The only common denominator of this continued slop and mess floundering to get to the almighty's "Non Losing Season" is still the Head Coach? How much longer does Steeler Nation have to live in Purgatory Gerry??
Gerry Dulac
10:33
You raise a point and ask a question shared by many others, EIE.

GM Gerry. When I watch teams like Detroit, Buffalo, Chargers & Philly, it looks like we are light years away from those teams in terms of offense, defense, play calling, etc.  Do you agree?  When I watch the Steelers, everything looks like it's in slow motion with zero cohesion.  Sorry for the negativity, but I don't see this franchise turning it around anytime soon.  Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
10:34
I do not agree with putting the Chargers in what that group. But I get your point and tend to agree

2-1 and off to Ireland.  Hope you have a great trip!  What happened to the middle of the field and TE usage?  This offense will be stale if this is ignored and looks like we need to pass early to set up the run.  Hope AR starts taking advantage of TE’s early and often.  Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
10:36
Passing early to set up the run is fine if you can do it. But they came out in NE and ran the ball seven of the eight plays for a quick opening TD

Morning Gerry! Is Roman Wilson in the Doghouse?
Gerry Dulac
10:36
No. He's just not being used. Little surprised

Hi Gerry--its hard to watch our O Line unable to move the other DL every week, and see our RB get smashed and often hit behind the line of scrimmage.  I wish that's what we did to our opponents.  Are we at the point where we conclude our technique is substandard, and a OL coaching change is needed?  Or have we overestimated our talent yet again and must conclude these guys have too low of ceilings?
Gerry Dulac
10:37
When's the last time you saw them in a three-point stance and came off the ball??

Will the Brian Flores led Viking defense squash the  molasses in January speed of the Arthur Smith minus 3 yards and a cloud of nope running game?  Will Kevin O'Connell outwit the Tomlin/Austin Hall of Fame brain trust sieve-like miscommunication defense?
Gerry Dulac
10:38
So, you don't sound very confident. Am I reading that right?

I don't understand why they won't put Washington in to help Broderick Jones. Your thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
10:38
Believe it or not, Broderick Jones is slowly getting better

Watched Monday night football last night and got to wondering again - how can Arthur Smith coach in this league all these years and still not be able to come up with the type of imaginative plays the Lions run?  If he would just watch a little film you would think he could steal some ideas from the better coordinators.
Gerry Dulac
10:39
I'll tell him he needs to do that.

To me, MT is a great leader of people and can see why most players like playing for him.  I also see a coach who has a very poor track record of assistant coach hires and seems to be the most stubborn man alive with his defensive scheme.   I know MT isn't going anywhere but, assuming another year without a playoff win, how likely is ARII to make a more active role in hiring Assistants?  His coaching tree speaks volumes.

Hi Gerry, A good draft pick makes an impact on the field. I understand Wilson was injured, but he’s been with the team long enough that we’ve barely seen him contribute. At this point, should we still accept the idea that he’s just young and developing, or is that theory getting harder to justify?
Gerry Dulac
10:40
I'm with ya CJ, but he effectively is still a rookie who's learning

Gary, wasnt sundays game just a slight variation on how the Steelers “manufacture” wins with splash play turn overs ?  That said its a really non scaleable and repeatable process.  Its like trying to make up for bad pitching by swinging for the fences every at bat.   Do you think that Mike Tomlin really thinks this is a legitimate strategy to get to the superbowl? Lol.  5-1 turnovers over margin and win by one TD ?  Is Art Rooney 2 awake?
Gerry Dulac
10:41
I agree John. It's not like you can game plan to create turnovers. It's not sustainable or reliable.

Harmon looked pretty darn good in his first NFL game. Benton continues to get pushed around like a little kid in the playground. Does our “future HOF” coach not see this?
Gerry Dulac
10:41
Yes Harmon did!!
Dick Hertz
10:41
Gerry, if Porter and Elliott are going to miss 4 games why not just put them on IR?
Gerry Dulac
10:41
Because they're not going to miss 4 games

I just watched highlights from the Lions-ravens game and boy they have some scary offenses. We have been giving up close to 400 yds to three bad to mediocre teams. Do you think those teams could put up 700 or more yds against our defense?
Gerry Dulac
10:42
OK, maybe not that much.

At what point will Teryl Austin be considered the Matt Canada of DC's?  Canada was terrible, but he also had very little to work with. Austin has a freaking Ferrari and can't get it out of 1st gear.  It is time to find a DC who can do their job.
Gerry Dulac
10:42
They have a DC -- Mike Tomlin

Me Dulac…as a long time Steeler fan I was happy to watch them win on Sunday, but after viewing some of the other games, my perception was that the black and gold just aren’t playing with the same intensity as their opponents. Am I incorrect on this assumption?
Gerry Dulac
10:43
It doesn't seem that way, does it?
Sam
10:43
Kevin O'Connell will scheme circles around Tomlin this week, and TJ Hockenson must be licking his chops after watching the Hunter Henry film from Sunday.  I worry that it'll be more of the same trying not to let Jefferson go off deep, they'll just let MIN complete pass after pass 8-12 yards down the field at a time and let the roulette wheel either land on turnovers that save them or another 30 point, near 400 yard output even if it is Carson Wentz.
Gerry Dulac
10:43
So, you think they'll lose...??

Is Peppers going to start opposite Elliott when he’s back. Is Thornhill on his way out with is huge downtick in playing time.
Gerry Dulac
10:43
No

Gary, sorry the last message was sent before i finished:  are the Steelers confusing a unicorn event 5-1 turnover margin with playing good fundamental football and being a good team?  If pats hold onto the ball they boat race us. Yes?
