Ok kids, we're gonna start our chat in 5 or so minutes so get ready....
10:52
OK, kids, let's go....

Good morning Sir!
I guess when you have already shipped a 1st why not send a 5th for a TE? Has to mean Colbert/Tomlin are on the hotting up seat...right?
Gerry Dulac
10:52
Not really. I think people forget the No. 1 rule in the NFL....win.
Scott in Dallas
10:52
Does Tomlin have such a huge ego that he is unwilling to take his hands off the defense since it consistently underperforms or is it more of an indictment of Butler?
Gerry Dulac
10:53
It shouldn't be an indictment of Butler

I kind of like the idea of trading later round picks for good players, because the steelers are missing on a lot of later round picks.  And I wont complain about the 1 for Fitzpatrick either, he can be a legit star for years.   When do they trade a pick for a punter?   Also, if they lose to the Bungals, 0-4, are Butler or Fitchner let go?   I sure hope so!!!
Gerry Dulac
10:54
I'm with you on the first part, but you picked the wrong time to get on the punter. He had a tremendous game in SF, averaged 52 yards on all those punts.

What seems to be the primary/secondary/tertiary (just wanted to get to say tertiary...) reason for the lack of success in the running game?
Gerry Dulac
10:56
I don't think there has been a lot of room to run. I think the biggest thing is the inadequate blocking of their backup TEs. And you can't keep 89 in to block when you need him in routes. Also they miss a natural FB is short-yardage. And I also believe this O-line is built to pass protect, which they do better than anyone with No. 7. They need to refocus to run block.

There appears to be a serious problem with Conner fumbles. What is and can be done to correct this and why wasn't Samuels used in the last game? Does he have an undisclosed issue?
Gerry Dulac
10:56
Conner has had some big fumbles to be sure. Three games proved to be costly. And I'm not sure why Samuels didn't play. He should have played...a lot

The off season was filled with questions about Ben’s leadership.  Now that he’s out for the year and the keys of the team have been passed on to Mason, what is Ben’s leadership role going to be with the team?  Will he be there every practice, every QB team meeting and every game working directly with Rudolph, trying to make him and the team better? I was wondering if he was at the 49ers game and if not…why? I understand that he had surgery the next day but for what we are paying him and the team’s need for his leadership during these tough times, my expectations would be he is all in…every day. Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
10:57
He was not at the SF game, nor should he have been. And I'm sure he will be around the team a lot. But having him around is not going to win games.

Do you have any idea how much input Coach Austin has in gameday defensive adjustments?
Gerry Dulac
10:58
I'm sure some. All coaches have some amount of say in what they think can be done in terms of adjustments, but mostly those adjustments fall on the coordinators/head coach.

You have stated that Mike Tomlin would not be let go after this season. If the defense (which he has had his fingerprints on for three+ years now) continues to underperform and the team continues to lose. Would Tomlin be on the hot seat?
Gerry Dulac
10:59
Nope. With the injury to Ben, he gets a pass.

Gerry, with the schedule ahead of us, can this team reasonably expect to compete for a playoff spot in 2019 or are they playing to minimize the Dolphins draft pick?
Gerry Dulac
10:59
Like Herm Edwards said....they play to win. Always. That's why they make these moves. They ALWAYS play to win.

Defensive collapses and inability to get key stops is due to (a) offense leaves them on field too long (b) other team adjusts their game plan by second half and our coaches don't counter adjust?
Gerry Dulac
11:01
Reason A doesn't help. As for reason B, trust me, the coaches make adjustments.

Any thoughts on why the running game isn’t running, going back to the last quarter of the season last year? What’s happened?
Gerry Dulac
11:04
That's a good question and I'm sure there are plenty of reasons, not all of which I understand, either. I think you can start with the notion that James Conner isn't going to sneak up on any defensive coordinators this year like he did last year. Also, losing Marcus Gilbert, a terrific run blocker, probably hasn't helped, though that's no reflection on Matt Feiler. Same with losing Mike Munchak. Plus, this line is built to pass protect, not run block.

With all the free agent and draft capital spent on the defense, it should be a shut-down defense but it’s not. What do you think the PRIMARY indictment for this is? 1:  The talent is not as good as it should be (GM and front office fault) 2: The coaches have not done a good job developing that talent.  3: The coaches are not good at game planning/managing. Thanks for your insight.
Gerry Dulac

Let's give it a little more time before a full indictment

Gerry - will we see a more imaginative offensive game plan right out of the box on Monday?  What is there to lose at this point?  Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
11:07
I'm sure you will continue to see more of that as Rudolph, Washington and Johnson play more. But I wish everyone would please give up on the notion the season is lost. I'm not saying it is or isn't, but, believe me, Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert, won't ever think that way.

Villanueva and Feiler got pushed around Sunday. What happened to Chuks? They were high on him last year.
Gerry Dulac
11:08
I'm not sure what's wrong with him and I'm equally surprised as well

Good morning Gerry. Love your work. With the signing of the new tight end, is Grimble eventually cut or is Gentry moved to the practice squad?
Gerry Dulac
11:08
I'm guessing Gentry to the practice squad, but nothing would surprise me.

your thoughts on MT not counseling MR to slide rather than dive forward when scrambling, even to the point of scrambling itself.. MR gets whacked the Duck is in..
Gerry Dulac
11:09
I can't think that much
Le'Veon Brown

So either Colbert can't evaluate talent or Tomlin can't coach or develop talent. I believe it's both, but either way they both need to go. Wasted picks on busts, terrible contracts and FA acquisitions, same terrible defense, awful coordinators on both sides of ball, no discipline, 1st rd picks regressing instead of getting better, guys being kept or even extended past their time of needing to be let go (Heyward, Dupree, Haden, Switzer)....all of these things revert directly back to Colbert and more so Tomlin. Why should they been given a pass this year because Ben got hurt? The team still stunk the 2 1/2 games Ben was playing this year and the last 7 games of last year. Is Art really that clueless regarding football to keep the current management and coaches in place and why is the Pittsburgh media still afraid to ask Tomlin a challenging question or demand some accountability?
Gerry Dulac
11:11
I promise you that I and the rest of the media will demand some accountability, soon as Tomlin becomes an elected official, not an NFL coach.

Doesnt Al Riveron have too much power ?
Gerry Dulac
11:11
The process is ridiculous
Doyle37
11:11
Shouldnt the Steelers revert to a two gap D-Line to help stop opponents rushing the ball ?
Gerry Dulac
11:12
I think that might help. They still two-gap when they are in their base 3-4, but they become one-gap in their sub packages, which they play the majority of time.
