Hi Gerry thanks for your work! Been watching the Steelers a long time and can’t remember a defense like this. The turnovers aside they can’t stop anyone when it matters and give me a break with the miscommunication! Oh and by the way tell Cam we love him but talk is cheap!

I don't think you people watch a lot of other defenses around the league. I'm not defending this one but do you see what's happening around the league? They have forced seven turnovers in the last two games for the people who complain they don't get takeaways. And they do have four new starters on defense. Let's just give it a little more time. They did finish sixth in the NFL last season in defense, so if you think they're bad, imagine how bad the other 26 defenses must be.

Gerry - Thanks for the chats.  I thought the late game defensive collapses would stop given the new defensive players, the draft capital expended, the big safety trade and the free agents signed.  But, they are getting gashed and blown up down the middle with the same regularity.  Is it now evident that it must be the defensive calls being made...that probably haven't changed...as the reason for the continued collapses?  And, we know who is making those calls and defensive game plans....not DC Butler.   Thanks.

Gerry, The defense has had significant turnover of personnel over the last three seasons to become faster to cope with the NFL’s new schemes on offense but the results are still the same. Can we now conclude that the problem isn’t the talent on the field but the scheme and coaching?
Gerry Dulac
11:16
That could be a logical conclusion

Good morning . Thank you as always for the chat . Do you think it will be a good idea to start Samuels and/or Benny Snell , considering Conner fumbling issues and apparent lack of burst ? I know he was pro bowler last year but he does not look like the same guy. Thank you very much .
Gerry Dulac
11:16
No, that's not the answer. But maybe giving more time and snaps to Samuels and Benny Snell is.

Hi Gerry - if Colbert keeps making trades - will the Steelers have any draft picks left for April?
Gerry Dulac
11:17
It will make for light draft days for me

Is there any way to get the OL fixed?  To me, this is the most disappointing aspect of the season in terms of what you thought you could expect based on pedigree and past performance.
Gerry Dulac
11:17
Agreed.

Why are the Steelers trading another draft pick? I understand the TE spot is an issue but it should have been addressed in the off-season. This TE isn't going to be a difference maker.
Gerry Dulac
11:18
He's not being asked to be a difference maker. He's brought in to block and help behind McDonald. But, I agree with you in one regard -- I thought the Steelers need to address TE before RB in the draft and they didn't. And look where they are.

1. Can people please stop talkiing about Butler and his defense. It is Tomlin's and he should be the one help accoutable.

Hi Gerry, In my opinion, other than the mid 80’s, the Steelers were always able to reload (not rebuild) average teams and fans could see positive signs of future improvement. What do you see as a future strength of this team they can build around?
Gerry Dulac
11:20
Hopefully the defense. And good young receivers

Hi Gerry, thanks for the chats..are we seeing an implosion waiting to happen if they lose to Cin..on Monday?
Gerry Dulac
11:21
Well I thought that in 2013 when they started 0-4 and they finished 8-8, which is not an implosion. But that team had 7, 26 and 84, so you knew they could and would get better.

Does the tight end hint at the possibility the Steelers have soured on Vance,  who is more often injured than healthy?  Steep price for a mere backup,  could have kept Jesse for that,  or maybe less.
Gerry Dulac
11:21
Not at all.
Ralph
11:21
Really seems like we're going all out to fight our way to a 8-8 record this year.  Is it really worth torpedoing our 2020 draft to win 1-2 more games with no playoffs either way?  Answer from the perspective of the team, rather than Colbert and Tomlin, please.
Gerry Dulac
11:22
The perspective of the team is the same as the coach and GM -- win. If it isn't, those players wouldn't be around.

How many losses this year would it take to cost Tomlin his job?
Gerry Dulac
11:22
No  number
Ralph
11:22
It seems like it's been years since we had a threat at KR/PR.  Other teams seem to be able to find guys who can return a punt for positive yardage.  Why can't we?
Gerry Dulac
11:24
Because the coach who says you can't live in your fears lives in his fears. He chooses reliable returners who hold on to the ball over guys who could potentially be game-breakers. I'm not saying I disagree because 1) kickers will just kick away or out of the end zone from game-berakers, and 2) how many long punt or KO returns do you really see in a season, let alone a game?
GSMP
11:24
Would you expect the play calling on Monday night to be more aggressive and play to Rudolph's strengths, which is the deep pass?
Gerry Dulac
11:25
I think each game, as he gets more comfortable, that will happen
Ralph
11:25
I view this team as having a similar season as the Dolphins. However it seems we're taking an opposite approach re: the future.  The Dolphins are taking a mulligan this season and stockpiling tons of draft capital for the future.  We seem to be giving up future draft picks to try and win now.  Which strategy is wiser?
Gerry Dulac
11:26
The Steelers don't blow up and rebuild. By the way, how many division titles the Dolphins have? How many playoff appearances? Super Bowls??? Want me to continue?

11:26
The Steelers will keep Tomlin no matter what as long as Ben is around, because a QB at the end of his career doesn't want to have to learn a new coach - agree?
Gerry Dulac
11:26
That's not the reason.
Ralph
11:26
Do Pittsburgh sports media still consider Tomlin the #2 coach in the NFL, only behind Belichick?
Gerry Dulac
11:26
Did you take a poll?
ClownShow
11:27
"Nope. With the injury to Ben, he gets a pass." Haha, didn't he get a pass last year. And the year before? I know PGH media is mid-market and scared of their own shadow, but how exactly does he get a pass? The team is 2-6 1/2 in the past 8 1/2 games Ben has played. So where does the pass come from?
Gerry Dulac
11:27
Apparently not from you
11:29
OK, with that (INSERT ADJECTIVE) question, we are out of time. Thanx for the questions, well, most of them.
