Let's hope not much longer. If he decides now not to play, there will be a resolution to all this -- and it might not be a favorable one for 24. Remember, they made him an offer that would have made 24 the seventh highest-paid CB in the league. He and his rep decided that wasn't enough. So do you think he is more than the seventh-best CB in the league? Do you think he's the seventh-best CB in the league??

Good morning Gerry. You had mentioned how Everette was hailed as one of the best rookies in camp by the Steelers coaching staff. Did his play possibly change their direction in negotiations with Porter jr? In a sense did they feel like he could eventually take over JPJ’s spot for much cheaper which led them to not engage as quickly with Porter as we initially thought they would?

If they could get a first-round pick for him, the deal might already have been done. Let's be clear about one thing here -- the Steelers like JPJ, both as a person and a player. They wanted to sign him, and at a price above what he's worth. But that wasn't good enough apparently. And so here we are

I don't rate or evaluate cliques, unity or leadership, at least not in September. I'll wait until I hear players gripe about it, good or bad.

Hi Gerry. Is there reason to be concerned about signing Benton to an extension? I don't care about the amount as much as locking up a player who isn't producing. I am missing something in his performance?

So it is about the extension and "locking" him up. Benton is not the type of player who is going to jump out at you, not like the size of his contract did. He is a good, solid player

Gerry, if you're the GM, do you trade Porter for anything less than a #2 pick or do you keep him on the team this year and tag him next year?  He is the best CB on the team, and I'd just as soon keep him and tag him and get 2 more seasons out of him.

No, nothing less for sure. But, even if they tag him, what makes you think he won't pull the same act again? He is their best CB, which is why they wanted to sign him and came up on their offer. This isn't about them. It's about 24.

We keep hearing it would take a premium package to trade JPJ. What is a premium package in the Steelers point of view? Loose reports say a 2nd could get it done. That doesn’t seem premium to me. But I think if they settle for less than that then Khan and the Steelers look incredibly soft in this situation.

GM Gerry, over the past few seasons we've attempted to use a RB during the game that is not one of the top 2 RBs.  I cant remember them ever getting more then a yard or two.  Why do we continue to try it?  Just run our top RBs or throw the damn ball.

I'd say the odds are less than 50-50 he'll play, maybe the same for the season, but we'll see.

The pole position now will be different next season. And you're assumption they will not pick up another veteran QB is pretty much spot on. That's the last thing they want to do.

Again, 50-50. But I'm going to take Joey at his word that he will "definitely" play at some point this season. Then again, he really never said for whom.

People remark about the disparity of what the two different units are paid on the Steelers roster. Isn’t this partly the result of success of their drafts? They wanted to extend Benton and Herbig and likely now Harmon.

Absolutely. Granted, they spent a decent buck on Ramsey and Queen, but not like they did on Metcalf.

Hi Gerry. When DeShon Elliott comes off of IR, who do you think gets released? It seems Eli Heidenreich would be the most obvious but the homer in me would really hate to see that happen. Not to mention, I really believe he has some upside.

Not sure it would be Eli unless McCarthy wants just two RBs and a FB on the roster. But the decision is not always that difficult because of the way teams can now elevate players from the practice squad on a weekly basis

Roman Wilson has played decent... but Mr. Rodgers has always disliked WRs that make him look bad. Does that drop/INT from Sunday provide a window for Germie to get more snaps/targets?
