Probably. Being correct doesn't matter

Why do the Steelers always throw the ball short of the first down markers. Are the receivers taught that or is Ben losing it or is it the OC?
Gerry Dulac
11:58
C'mon now, they don't always do it. It happened the first two times on third down against the Seahawks. Then they converted the next four times on third down with completions. People remember the ones that don't work. They forget the ones they do. I will point up that no team in the history of the NFL has ever converted every third down 100 percent of the time.

Is Ingram a viable option to play inside?  And, relatedly, are you surprised by the play and seemingly lack of development shown by Devin Bush thus far in his career or is this more injury-related?
Gerry Dulac
11:58
No

With Ju Ju out for the season do you see the Steelers adding a veteran wide receiver during the bye week?
Gerry Dulac
11:58
They already did -- Anthony Miller.

Do you think we will see a major overhaul of team personnel in the off season? Salary dump while bringing on new FA talent? Keeping of course, TJ, Cam, Najee, etc.
Gerry Dulac
11:58
You already saw that last season

Hi Gerry, thanks for the chat as usual. In your opinion, why did the "run out of the shotgun" play (which I've never cared for) all of a sudden began to work later in the Seattle game? Better blocking? Seattle defense fatigue? Prior to that, Seattle was holding them to a 1-2 yd gain, or loss. Thanks
Gerry Dulac
11:59
Because people mistakenly think you can't run out of the shotgun. That is a bunch of you-know-what

Does Tomlin still believe in his way of thinking meaning we do what we do and don't make changes at half time?
Gerry Dulac
11:59
Mike Tomlin believes in everything he does. He is no dummy

Perhaps this is premature, and I'm sure the comment will be unpopular with some, but this draft class is shaping up to be one of Colbert and Tomlin's finest.  Are we reaching back into the 60s or 70s, the last time the Steelers started five draft picks (counting the punter here) and seen decent play from other picks and free agents?
Gerry Dulac
12:01
I don't think it's premature. In fact, I think it's correct. I went back a long way and never found an instance where four rookies (five with the punter) started from Week 1

Hi Gerry, thank you for the chat opportunity.  Jarvis Jones, Artie Burns, and Bud Dupree were relatively recent first rounders who didn't pan out (one might even throw in Ziggy Hood but that was 10 years ago..).  Are Devin Bush, Minkah, and Terrell Edmunds the next class of misses? Yes, I am dwelling on the poor run defense performance that started the second half of the Seattle game...
Gerry Dulac
12:03
I would not put Bud Dupree in that group at all, unless you missed what he did the past two years and they money he received from the Titans. And I think you are so far off base you're in danger of being picked off
KW
12:03
Can we assume Spillane is earning more playing time, or Bush and Schobert are still needed time to adjust?
Gerry Dulac
12:03
Just depends on the team they're playing and the defense they want to use

I noticed that Kendrick Green made a nice downfield block but he just seems undersized. The Steelers roster list him at 6’4” 315 but he looks more like 6’0 260 when I see him standing on the sideline, what does he look like to you in person close up? Do you think he has a long future in the NFL?
Gerry Dulac
12:03
That's not something anyone can ever predict. If he wasn't any good, he wouldn't be playing

12:04
I see a lot of talk about Minkah having a "down" season. He's leading the team in Solo and Total tackles and they've been moving him around a lot which is likely what's affecting his splash plays. What you're your thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
12:04
My thoughts? Pretty much what you said

12:04
Seeing a bunch of national media saying the Steelers should sign Cam Newton to take over for Ben either next year or now to at least back him up. I think it's more likely they draft the next franchise QB if they don't believe Haskins or Mason are it. You?
Gerry Dulac
12:04
Please.

Gerry, i thought the new fireworks program worked well in getting people in the stadium for kickoff and introductions. Will that continue in coming weeks?

12:04
Gerry, do you think that Devin Bush is playing hurt, or is he not the player that the Steelers thought he was, at #10?  Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
12:04
He is coming off ACL surgery

12:05
At this point how can the Steelers draw up any play where Ebron is expected to block? Seriously...he doesn't give any effort. You think he would be embarrassed to show his face in the film room.
Gerry Dulac

Pay the man!

thanks for the chats Gerry. Always look forward to them. Why no comments about Tomlin’s lack of clock management? Once again, he showed how poor he is at it. Seattle should not have been given enough time to tie the game. I wish someone would explain to me the play selection that allowed them to do that.
Gerry Dulac
12:06
John, congrats...that's the first clock-management question I've received all year and we're already one-third of the way through the season.

12:06
Hey Gerry!  Many people will complain about the Steelers O, and rightfully so in regard to QB performance...but might it make more sense to trade something for MORE defense help?  Shore up the D even more, and if Tuitt makes it back, and this team only allows 14 pts a game, then maybe the the O can get 17 pts a game and win?
Gerry Dulac
12:06
What...signing Ingram and trading for Schobert wasn't enough??
kevin in Punxsy
12:06
Gerry, did HCMT have a legit complaint about the last few seconds of the game, or did he make a mountain out of a mole hill?  Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
12:06
Of course he did
Size matters
12:06
I noticed Loudermilk make a great defensive play late in the game by shedding 2 blockers that you would expect from a large nose tackle not a 6’7” 240 end. Do you think he has future in the middle?
Gerry Dulac
12:07
He's not suited for the middle. That was just their alignment. He is heavier than that listed weight. But you're starting to notice him making more plays as he goes.

Gerry-  I think Steelers would be better with 11 in slot and JW on field as opposed to Ray Ray. Agree?  Also do you see Anthony Miller getting put on 53 post the bye and getting 10 to 20 snaps per game in the slot?
