OK kids, I see some are already in the shop so we will start our chat in about 10 minutes.

Ok, let's get started....Go!!

Gerry it looks like the Steelers have enough cap room 9M to trade for a inside LB who would be your guy, Williamson, Miles Jack or the guy from Detroit.
Gerry Dulac
9:50
I don't think they are going to make a trade for any type of significant player because 1) Bush will be back next season; 2) and it's not like he's a free agent after the season. This isn't Sean Davis/Minkah Fitzpatrick

Gerry - Do you think it makes a difference that the Ravens have a bye and two weeks to prepare for the Steelers game, or doesn't that really matter much?  Can cut both ways....Ravens lose their edge?
Gerry Dulac
9:51
I agree. It can work both ways. Actually, the Ravens and Steelers would probably a prefer a bye AFTER they play each other

Hi Gerry, with trade speculations heating up, how difficult would it be for someone like an A. WILLIAMSON (or fill in a name) to come in, learn our scheme, and become more than efficient at ILB?
Gerry Dulac
9:52
I think they will go with what they have and see how that works out, at least for now. But, as I pointed up the other other day, it's not easy finding players like Bush. Look how long it took and how many players they used trying to find a replacement for Ryan Shazier.

Gerry - will be great if we can come out of this three game stretch 2-1.  Facing better QBs the next two weeks than have faced so far.  Not so much for the Dallas game....the Cowboys are in disarray.  But, three straight road games is not easy in the NFL.
Gerry Dulac
9:54
Not it isn't, but four straight home games was a nice counter. I think you and I would take 2-1 right now. The Steelers would only settle for 3-0 in this stretch.

Good Morning!!!  Based on what you have seen and heard (being around the team so much) over the years, does "Not a lot of sub package football"  translate to a more vanilla look?  Or do the Steelers tend to be just as creative out of base personnel?
Gerry Dulac
9:55
A little of both. You will likely see more of their base 3-4 against the Titans. But you will also see their sub packages some, too, because the Titans can throw it. Keep an eye on what they do with Vince Williams.

Hi Gerry, after digesting the first 5 games, and knowing the nfl’s competitive landscape a little better, what do you think the Steelers regular season record will be and who do they lose to? From there, what playoff position will they then be in? Thanks & take care!
Gerry Dulac
9:57
I can't predict that, but I've said since before the season I thought they were an 11-5 team that with a little luck could be 12-4 or with a little bad luck could be 10-6. They are easily on pace for that.  Their toughest games will be the Ravens. That will determine how they fare.

The two offensive players of the week from the past two weeks are in this game coming up, who will have the better game? Henry or Claypool?
Gerry Dulac
9:57
Good prop bet.

Hey Gerry, as always, thanks for the chat.  Realizing that the odds of the Steelers replacing Bush with equal talent is slim and none, do you see the Steelers being more aggressive in their pass rush to make up for the loss of coverage that Bush brings to the table?
Gerry Dulac
9:59
I'm not sure they can be any more aggressive with their rush than they already are. What they are giving up without Bush is speed, a guy who can cover sideline to sideline. You will see teams test the ILBs with underneath routes and screens.

Gerry, the Steelers secondary was much improved on 3rd and long situations last week.  What specifically did they do to adjust to improve so much from the Eagles game?  From my untrained eye it seemed to be schematic and not just from the pass rush.
Gerry Dulac
10:00
Wait a minute...what's going on here?? All these questions are legible and thoughtful....wow. Justin, to your point, they changed up some of their looks, particularly with Minkah on third down.

Greetings Gerry -  What one weakness do you see for the Titans on both sides of the ball that the Steelers might exploit and walk away with a W?
Gerry Dulac
10:02
I think the biggest is the Titans' defense. They are aggressive but they give up a lot of points. The Steelers have put up 38 each of the past two weeks. But they will try to put the heat on BR

How should we look at the Cle game: dominating performance on both sides of the ball and a big win against a 4-1 team, or just another victory over Cle at Heinz field, even though they are better this year, they are, after all, still the Browns?  Since they restarted the franchise, the PPG writers, when making their yearly preseason projections, have ALWAYS penciled in a W for a home game against the Browns, no?
Gerry Dulac
10:03
It was a dominating performance on both sides of the ball. The Browns were 4-1. No need to make excuses.

10:03
Good morning Gerry. Always appreciate your insight. No question Devon Bush will be missed. But it never ceases to amaze me that when a star player goes down on a another team, the excuses fly. But when it happens to Pittsburgh, its crickets for the most part. One of the reasons for the long time success of the Steelers organization is that they acknowledge it, but will never make those excuses. Your thoughts? Thank you for taking my question
Gerry Dulac
10:05
That is correct. Mike Tomlin does not give his players an excuse to use for losing. I remember a former Pitt BB coach who always lamented injuries and how many players were out. All that was doing was giving his players a built-in excuse for losing.

Anything on possible signings following the Bush injury?
Gerry Dulac
10:05
Nope.
Tom in Dallas
10:05
What is your projection at the mid point?  I have 7-1.  Assume we split the next two weeks and beat Dallas.
Gerry Dulac
10:06
That is a safe bet Tom. 7-1 would be better if one of those wins was against the Ravens.
Tom in Dallas

What do you make of the Cowboys situation?  They are a mess and the team has publicly turned on the new coaching staff after 6 games. When Elliot, one of the top 5 RBs in the league has five fumbles after six games, and had two on Sunday in one quarter, that both lead to TDs, you can't blame the coaches for that?  And ironically, they are in first place, could win the division, make the playoffs, and host a first round game?
Gerry Dulac
10:08
The latter scenario you paint is only because of how weak the NFC East is this season. The Cowboys defense, what there is of it, is horrible. I like Mike McCarthy and think he is a good coach. But he needs to find a defensive coordinator better than the one he has.

Regarding the loss of Bush, what about Sean Davis?  Don't hear too much about him, but he is quite an athlete and big enough to play in place of Bush or at least help out.
Gerry Dulac
10:08
Don't count him out

Weird stretch of games coming up.  I can see anything from a 2-1, to a 0-3 fizzle.  Not been a huge Tomlin fan over the years, but very impressed with how he is seemingly re-energized this season, and handling the team.  He can either completely silence the doubters with a 2-1 (or 3-0) split, or bring back the doubts if things don't go well, and the team falls in a couple of those games.  Gonna be an interesting next few weeks!
Gerry Dulac
10:09
The only doubters he needs to silence aren't worth being silenced. And, because you mentioned him, I will use one of his expressions to your point -- Don't live in your fears. What have you seen so far to make you think they will go 0-3 in this road stretch? I haven't seen anything.

Is the true test for the Steelers defense going to be when they play against mobile QB's where the blitz becomes less effective and requires better coverage by the secondary?  Seems like anytime our secondary is relied on in coverage it almost always has bad results.
Gerry Dulac
10:11
Yeah, that Minkah pick-six was a disgrace. So was the Sutton interception. I still can't believe how that horrible defense managed to let the highest-scoring team in the league get 7 points.
Benson DuBois
10:11
Spillane/Vinny ILB combo seems tough but slow to me. Do you see them getting the majority of the snaps?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
That's who will get the majority of the snaps.
