OK, kids, we're going to start our chat in just a few minutes....

Alright, let's gooooo....

Hi Gerry - can you explain while Dalton threw the ball away on 4th down knowing the Steelers would get the ball deep in Bengals territory instead of at least giving one of his receivers a chance? I have never seen that before
Gerry Dulac
10:59
I haven't either. The only logical explanation is he lost track of the downs. I don't think he knew it was fourth down.

Hi Gerry - any idea why the NFL chose not to suspend Burfict with clear video evidence of him kicking Nix and knowing he is a repeat offender?
Gerry Dulac
11:00
No I don't. Maybe they're tired of suspending him. To me, it merits a one-game suspension and fine. I know he didn't really connect hard with Nix or even hurt him, but it's the act of what he did.

Gerry,  Great chats.  Do you think Tomlin sits Martradius this Sunday?  If Ju Ju can't go could be the break out game for MB so it has to be a tough call for the coaches.  Thank you.

I think whatever punishment is meted -- if any punishment is meted -- it will be done independent of any injury situation with JuJu. You start doing that, you really lose credibility with everyone, most importantly the players. But I don't think he will sit him. His 'crime' is some poorly-chosen words on social media. He didn't commit treason in the locker room or on the field.

Hi Gerry. Thank you for you time. I'm happy the Steelers have earned back-to-back  wins, but I am concerned about the red zone troubles. With an offense loaded with pro-bowl players on the offensive line and at the skilled positions, where do we point the fingers? Is it execution and/or play calling? I'm leaning towards the play calling after seeing Nix taken off the field on that 3rd and 1 play.
Gerry Dulac
11:04
I think it's a little of both. But it's not without trying a lot of different stuff. But the stuff they are trying ain't working.

Due to circumstances beyond my control, I am exposed to Cincinnati sports media. I hate to criticize colleagues (and perhaps friends) of yours, but on Monday Butch wrote "as always seems to happen lately in a Bengals-Steelers game, Pittsburgh objected to one of Burfict’s plays, claiming he kicked Nix in the head after one snap" (emphasis on "claiming") then he changes the subject from Burfict to an "uncalled" helmet-to-helmet hit by Sean Davis on Mixon. Later, Doc writes that Pittsburgh has the most "obnoxious" fans in the NFL because we called out the Burfict cheap shot while supposedly ignoring the various dramas with Bryant, Bell, Brown, etc (as if). Does this sort of local journalism - deflecting criticism of Burfict, Pacman, etc - explain why the Bengals have probably the least knowledgeable and most delusional fanbase in sports?
Gerry Dulac
11:06
I don't know if it's delusional or lacking knowledge, but it does sound a bit parochial and protective. Remember, Geoff Hobson does work for the Bengals, so his view will be slightly less objective than Doc.

Any thoughts how DeCastro turned his season around? Just the nature of who he is facing each week? Maybe more motivated after being called out on his subpar play?
Gerry Dulac
11:07
You are claiming, then, that he was playing poorly at the beginning of the season?

How is Smith Schuster? and will Bryant get more reps with JuJu in the protocol?

Hi Gerry, thanks for your time.  The 3rd and 1 and 2nd and 2 type calls in the red zone still continue to be head scratchers.  In your opinion is this Haley's play calling or Ben's audibles? Whichever it is they are costing us important points. Thank you sir
Gerry Dulac
11:10
They could be both. I love the calls where Nix comes out of the game on third-and-1. But it happens all around the NFL. The other night, the Falcons were on the NE half-yard line and threw on third down and went empty set -- EMPTY SET!! -- on fourth down. No runs with DeVonta Freeman from the half-yard line.

Would the Steelers have taken Jabrill Peppers over TJ Watt if both were still available? I feel like the Brownies really helped us there.
Gerry Dulac
11:11
Let me say this, the Steelers were targeting Peppers with their top pick. What I'm not sure of is whether they had projected Watt to already be gone.

Gerry, can we expect this team to make a true run towards the Super Bowl? Is or defense getting closer to elite or already there? Our offense is good, but I still see some flaws. The play calling and third downs seem to be an issue. They could be more consistent and explosive on Offense. Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:12
Of course. They are one of the best teams in the league and starting to show it.

I can’t contact Haley so I’ll throw this to you: in short yardage and goal line, split Bell out wide and have Nix and Connor in the backfield. Also, would you give Connor 5 to 10 touches a game given Bell’s injury history?
Gerry Dulac
11:13
Oh, OK. I'll get this right down to him. But I do agree with the Conner thinking. Not 10 carries, but 4-5 every game for sure.

Why not give Martavis a chance in the red zone with a fade pass, etc. ? Not much else has worked down there anyways
Gerry Dulac
11:14
Agreed, but tell me the last time you saw the Steelers throw a fade pass in the end zone?? They just don't. Haven't for a long time. Not sure why
Bob
11:14
anything in particular today that ben sound about martavis?
Gerry Dulac
11:14
Nope
Bob
11:14
your best guess on tuitt and gilbert this weekend? thanks
Gerry Dulac
11:15
Tuitt has a better chance than Gilbert. But I'll say Gilbert out, Tuitt up.

Hi Gerry thanks for you time.  Seems like TJ is in coverage more than he rushes at times, is this just simply to take advantage of his skills? Seems like a waste.
Gerry Dulac
11:16
He is not in coverage more than he rushes, but he is in coverage. That's the way the Steelers use their OLBs. And it's among the reasons he will get the vast majority of snaps and not James Harrison.

Hi Gerry, Lions look like they will be missing Golden Tate Sunday, their o-line struggles in pass protection, and they do not have a strong running game, will it be a big night for the Steeler D?
Gerry Dulac
11:17
Putting it that way, it could be. They haven't had a 100-yard rusher since 2013

Thinking about this whole Martavis trade/social media thing, I think there is someone in his ear when he is not around the team. That is the only thing I can think of to explain his Jeckll/Hyde routine. Your thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:17
I agree. He is nothing but a good, hard-working teammate at practice and in games.

11:17
Hi Gerry...thanks for the chats...what is your take on the Bryant situation...what do you think should happen..and what do you think will happen?
Gerry Dulac
11:19
I think he will be fined internally, but not much more. Wouldn't surprise me, though, if he was inactive for a game. But the Steelers are trying very hard to get Bryant back to where he was in 2015. They know it's a long process, even if he doesn't apparently

11:19
Do you think Fanaca and Hampton will eventually get into the HOF?
Gerry Dulac
11:19
Faneca yes, Hampton never
