Hi Gerry...thanks for the chats!  If the Steelers lay another offensive egg on Thursday - then do you think they'd let Canada go and grab Josh McDaniels?
Gerry Dulac
11:17
As Bruce Arians once said when asked on draft day if Matt Speith was another Matt Kranchick, "God, I hope not."

Hi Gerry and thanks for your chats and articles. With the Steeler investment in their O-Line last year (and they showed improvement), and the 'upgrades' they made through free agency and the draft, how is it they have regressed so much? They are worse now than Big Ben's last year.
Gerry Dulac
11:18
I don't know that answer. Like I said earlier, everyone thought it would be an immediate and noticeable upgrade to an unit that was pretty darn good in the second half of last season.

Hi Gerry, In looking at the Steelers how can anyone evaluate the performance or development of any of the Offense players with Canada and his now clearly inadequate scheme? Seems to me from Pickett to Jones To Pickens To Johnson to Austin..etc. there is a big question mark always w respect to knowing what they have. Pickett is every bit if not more talented than say Brock Purdy, Yet look at the differing results. What say you?
Gerry Dulac
11:20
Very easy -- Purdy has better offensive talent around him. Not even close. And I would say Shanahan's system takes advantage of that talent just a little smidge better than what you been watching, eh??

Hello .Thank you as always for the chat . So recently Ogunjobi said about 2019 incident that he thought at the time that it was Mason who was hitting Garrett . But Ogunjobi did not get  the courage to issue an open apology to Rudolph over his silence about N word allegation . That scum bag Garret never issued an apology for smearing the character of a young man at the time . ESPN made a villain out of Rudolph for their love of Myles Garret but to the best of my knowledge never gave a chance to Rudolph to come on air . At the home front , that insecure  Ben always treated Mason as a step child. Tomlin staged a fake QB competition but did not have the courage to just say the obvious . Now he is relegated to a pity one year QB contract but Trubisky is getting 8 million extension for throwing as many interceptions as he want.  Do you think of anyone else treated so bad as Rudolph who is as class act as they come ? Not to mention Rudolph has a winning record under Fictner and a broken OL at the time .

I like Mason a great deal and he has had a raw deal here, right down to the Myles Garrett disgrace. It's part of the reason he had no intention of coming back here this year. He wanted a fresh start and thought he was getting it from several teams. But when those teams didn't get back to him after the draft, he thought it best to latch on to a team before OTAs. The Steelers always wanted him back as their No. 3 guy, so when they called and offered Mason took the deal. Bird in hand better than two in the bush, that kind of thing.

Gerry,  why does the national media insist on over rating Mike Tomlin? Have they not been paying attention for the past 13 years? It is truly baffling.
Gerry Dulac
11:24
How about just the past six years?

Why can't Cole hike the ball back to the QB without bouncing it off the turf or causing the QB to bend over and lose precious time to begin his progressions? He's consistent ... consistently terrible!
Gerry Dulac
11:24
Yeah, that's been surprising. A lot of low snaps.

Hello . Thank you as always for the chat . How bad is Minkah injury ? How many weeks do you think he will be out ? Thank you very much .
Gerry Dulac
11:24
I think he will be out longer than one.

Do you think roughing the passer for calls or lack of should be reviewable?
Gerry Dulac
11:25
I'd hate to see that because it would only slow the game down even more

In your opinion, how big of a sample size is necessary to fairly evaluate Pickett? Although Canada is at best JV, Pickett missing open receivers is not on him and a new OC won’t change that. Time is ticking especially on our best defensive players so they can’t waste any time deciding if Pickett can be a successful franchise QB. Thank you
Gerry Dulac

Hey money, your assessment is money.

How many questions or rants do you anticipate in today's chat calling for Tomlin's firing after the Raiders cleaned house yesterday?
Gerry Dulac
11:26
Oh, one or two. Or three. Or eight.

Good morning Gerry  It appears inevitable that Matt Canada is gone after this season and that the presumed plan, with or without the enthusiastic agreement of Mike Tomlin, will be to hire a new OC from outside the organization.  With regard to Coach Tomlin’s hiring of assistants, Ray Fittipaldo said, in his online chat this week, “My theory is he doesn't know how to identify or recruit good young assistants or those quality guys simply don't want to work for him because they don't view Pittsburgh as a franchise where they can advance their careers.”  Do you agree with Ray and, if so, does this indicate the Steelers will only attract OC candidates who want to move on from their current position but will have no viable alternatives to working under Mike Tomlin?
Gerry Dulac
11:30
First off, I would not "presume" the plan is to hire from the outside, though to me it is necessary. Also, I don't think many coaches looking for a job would turn down the opportunity to coach for the Steelers and work for Mike Tomlin, despite what a lot of people think. I think what needs to happen is qualified coaches need to be hired and not a bunch of young guys with unproven resumes.

The opening pass to Johnson was slightly overthrown, but do you think Pickens would have snared it? Heck, even Claypool would have made the catch - he jumped for every ball thrown to him even when it would have hit him between the numbers!
Gerry Dulac
11:32
Forget Claypool. He can't jump. He would have fallen. That was all on Johnson. A well-paid NFL receiver with two hands on the ball? Gotta catch it.

In your opinion, if Pickett does not become the Franchise QB that Coach Tomlin envisioned him to be the downfall of his Coaching career here at Pittsburgh? You have mentioned that Tomlin is the main reason Pickett was drafted in the 1st Round in 2022 and pairing KP with Canada's offense has Failed miserably in spectacular fasion!
Gerry Dulac
11:34
I think more playoff failures -- whether it's failing to qualify or giving up an average of 45 points when you do -- would be his downfall. If anything would. If. But don't hold your breath.
11:36
Jimbo11:34Seems to be real fear in the Pittsburgh sports press to ask Tomlin real questions that the fans would ask him. His shelf life is over and his pressers sound like an organic chemistry lecture. I let my wife listen this week and she agrees on the word salad the press accepts every week. Is it the players or the coaching. I just can’t watch anymore.
11:38
I'll check with the other media people to see if they're scared.

Jerome Bettis was almost 6 foot, 250 pounds.  Najee is just over 6 foot and weighs 242.  The Bus would take a hand off and hit the hole quickly running over people.  Why can’t Harris do that too instead of tiptoeing before he decides where to run?

Gerry love the chats.  Seems to me like the perfect storm of poor OC scheme and under-performing player performance driving Steelers offensive woes.  When he took over the team after Noll, Cowher seemed to get better performance with mostly the same players overnight.  Are we crazy to maybe expect the same after Canada?
Gerry Dulac
11:39
It can't get any worse, can it??
11:40
WTH is going on11:39So Moore and Cole continue to underperform and still starting - mostly at LT where Broderick Jones was highest rated lineman in his only game - how is he not starting?
Maybe that's all you need to know about ratings, and I'm sure I know who that is.

Beginning this week, I was fairly confident the Steelers would beat the Titans. But after reading articles and the chats here, I'd definitely not too sure anymore. Care to give a preview of your predictions this week?

I'm still up in the air for much the same reason, except I don't read other articles or chats

Last year the OL seemed to improve but this year they regressed. Why do you think that is?
Gerry Dulac
11:41
That question is quickly catching up to the number of questions about firing the head coach like the Raiders did

Good morning Gerry - in your opinion, do Steeler ownership & front office leaders (Omar, etc.) have input into the type of game planning, desired offensive identity, etc with this team or is this completely Tomlin & Canada's disaster of product they are trotting out each week?  Predictability & momentum killing play calling are destroying this offense and wearing our defense out before the end of the 1st quarter!
Gerry Dulac
11:42
Nope. None.
