Gerry, Should the Steelers WRs feel challenged by the play of the TEs?
Gerry Dulac

No, why should they?

Every time I hear the Tomlinism "We want Volunteers not Hostages" I can't help thinking he is creating the NFL version of the transfer portal in Pittsburgh. Isn't he basically telling players( who are under contract, and in most cases received a signing bonus) that they can whine their way out of town anytime they become dissatisfied with their role? Bad precedent? slippery slope?

Not at all.

Gerry - thank you for these chats. Any update on Boswell’s concussion and availability this week?
Gerry Dulac

That won't be known until he progresses through the protocol, and that doesn't happen  in a day

Mr. Dulac, how confident are you that the Steelers will win the next two "winnable" games and will be 6-3 on the other side?
Gerry Dulac

I've learned in the NFL to never be "confident" about anything. But there's a good chance of that happening

Question on Ray's chat yesterday.  I agree with the question on Tuitt.  It seems like a mystery.  So sorry for him that his brother died in an accident and he should have time off to mourn but then a mystery knee surgery developed and there is no straight answer about his future.  At some point all people need to return to work.  What was the knee problem.  Meniscus? ACL?  What??  There seems to be more to the story than we are getting.  If he doesn't come back we need to move on.

There is no more to the story. His knee was bothering him before training camp and he came to camp overweight. When the knee wasn't healing on its own, he had surgery to correct the problem. It wasn't any type of major knee injury like an ACL. Physically, he is ready to return to practice, but there are other issues. And I don't understand why people think they need "more to the story than we are getting." Tuitt and the Steelers are not required to give "more to the story," especially with a personal matter. What the Steelers decide to do is their business, not anyone else's.

Hi Gerry! A golf question for you, considering your many years as an excellent golf writer. Who is the second best golfer from Western PA? I’d go for Carol Semple Thompson, who’s had an incredible amateur career. And what sport do you prefer covering - golf, football, or something else?

Carol is one of the most decorated, to be sure, and has more USGA titles (7) than any Western Pa. player. But because they have won many times at the highest level, Arnold Palmer and Rocco Mediate have to be considered the best. But I don't think I need to point up that you are comparing apples and oranges.
Well that's all the time we have today kids. Gotta go do some interviews. see you next week
