OK kids, it's a bye week chat, so, like the Steelers, it will be a lighter schedule this week. Let's get started...
Here We Go
9:57
Morning, Gerry!  Which WR are the Steelers serious about acquiring before the trade deadline?  Lots of rumors, but what are you hearing?
Gerry Dulac
9:59
They're not seriously pursuing any. What I'm hearing is they are not likely or intending to make a trade, but as I always say, never under-estimate the desperation of an NFL GM who might coming knocking for a deal

Is it Rodgers, the OC, McCarthy, or all of the above responsible for botching the redzone plays over the past few games?  You have the hottest RB duo in the league and you're throwing fades to an unreliable WR does not make any sense.  At the very least throw the fades to Darnell or Pat!
Gerry Dulac
10:00
First off, stop with the fades, especially to 4. They don't work. The biggest problem I had with those horrendous calls or decisions is that they ran the ball down the field to get into those positions and then try to stupid passes that had no chance of completions. Disgraceful on all accounts

Gerry, will the Steelers roll the dice next year with an unproven quarterback without "experience" like Drew Allar (or Howard)? Or do you think the Steelers are so additcted to "non-losing seasons" that they will bring in another washed up older QB once again?
Gerry Dulac
10:01
You can't even manage to be content for just a little while that they're 6-2 and in first place??
Bill In LA
10:02
Gerry, the Colts were 2-4 in a weak division. Why do you think they decided to throw in the towel so early in the season and trade off their best players?
Gerry Dulac
10:03
They're already looking ahead to another season, which is why it came as no surprise to me that they lost by 35 to Jacksonville after those moves. The message those deals send to the rest of the locker room is that they have given up on 2026 -- and so now have the players.
Compensation
10:03
Gerry, thanks for doing these.  I cannot recall if this has been asked before....if the Jets (or anyone for that matter) offers Tomlin a contract for 2027, do the Steelers get any compensation?  Looking at 1 of the Jets 3 1st rounders!
Gerry Dulac
10:04
My understanding is the Steelers are free of any compensation after this season if Tomlin returns to coaching. I will tell you, though, I have been told that he has told the Steelers he doesn't intend to coach anymore. We'll see.

Just a comment. I have been a long time season ticket holder and I can’t ever remember the field looking as good as it  does now. And that’s with 3 weekends of Pitt and the Steelers both playing. The NFL should have gotten involved years ago. Thanks for the chats

I am with you 100 percent. I remarked the same thing on Sunday.

Gerry, what is up with #4? Omar needs to add something at WR before the deadline, no?
Gerry Dulac
10:05
Do you mean that he can't catch easy throws? Can't run or catch a fade?
Mike
10:05
Thoughts on Troy's performance at LT halfway through the season?
Gerry Dulac
10:05
Well, it's not the same as when he was at RT
Peter

Hi Gerry. Any word on Harmon? Dline is playing great now but having him back would make it even better. A dominant defensive front will win you a lot of games
Gerry Dulac
10:06
He is eligible to come off IR by the Bengals game

Hi Gerry - isn’t the breakout running largely attributable to the new guys on the right side of the line? The first two games it was awful. Since they came in, about the best in the league.
Gerry Dulac
10:06
It has certainly helped, even though you see a  majority of the big runs off the left side. Iheanachor is a beast in the run game
Emilio
10:06
Hi Gerry, do you think the Steelers have a true No 1 receiver in their team?
Gerry Dulac
10:07
Nope. Metcalf is a hybrid 1-2.
Ryan
10:07
Hey Jerry.  Look at the Ravens record after all their injuries.   When Tomlin was coach with tough injuries,   he still managed playoffs & winning records.  Yet, he was still criticized.  What say you?
Gerry Dulac
10:07
It says people don't know what they have or are talking about

Thanks for the chat Gerry! Is Omar going to go all in this year and make a trade for a WR who can separate or should we expect the same Steelers team the rest of the year. I’m concerned about Pittman and Wilson injuries.
Gerry Dulac
10:09
It is not his intention. Their idea of "all-in" is to sign the likes of Mike Williams and Maquez Valdes-Scantling, which they have already done. Name me the last time the Steelers added a significant player before the trade deadline? You can't

What is going on with Metcalf? Reminds me of Limas Swede a little bit.  If the Steelers had just a solid #1 WR, they would be a competitive playoff team.  What do they do to address it?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
He is not Limas Sweed. The first mistake was giving him a contract commensurate with a No. 1 receiver. He is not that either.

Any sense of how Porter is doing in Dallas?  Was the new coaching staff less excited about his skill set than the last coaching staff? Or was it a front office issue related to money?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
I don't follow him. That's old news to me

Gerry, every week in every game we see the gunners on punt returns run at full speed to get to the punt returner, then as so often happens they run right by the guy or the returner makes one jab step and the gunner can't make a tackle because he's running so fast.  My question is, why don't special teams coaches teach their gunners to be under control as they approach the returner so that they are in position to make the tackle?  It just amazes me this happens 80-90% of the time vs the very occasional hit right when the returner catches the ball.
Gerry Dulac
10:12
Very good observation!
Jim
10:12
Our o-line has been getting a lot of praise lately, but it still seems like they are not allowing Rodgers enough time in the pocket. Am I asking too much for more time than he is getting?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
Uh..maybe
Todd
10:12
Hi Gerry, to what do you attribute the increase in plays being made by the “off ball” linebackers - formerly known as “inside”?  Scheme, experience, improved play of the ILBs, improved play of the defensive front, or something else?  Thanks for time!
Gerry Dulac
10:13
I think you forgot talent. These are two sideline-to-sideline guys who fit in with today's NFL. But the line even though they're not even using a base 3-4 front most of the time, has done a good job keeping OL off them
Jim
10:13
What are the chances of trading for another WR? I don't think there is one out there worth giving up a day 2 or 3 pick.
Gerry Dulac
10:14
They are not doing that. They already did that when they traded for Pittman.
Alan
10:14
Do you think the defensive line will continue to improve and be able to take pressure off the secondary as we play a tougher schedule?   The Steelers have to strike a balance.
