Gerry: are there any particular moves that contending teams made yesterday that you think the Steelers should have matched?

There would have been only one and that would have been at WR, but obviously what was given up was not what the Steelers were willing to do. But that doesn't mean Jakobi Meyers was their target, despite what some people are saying and what Steelers fans were hoping for.

With all the recent injuries to “mobile” quarterbacks sidelining them for multiple games, do you think NFL teams should rethink their infatuation with running QBs and re-appreciate the healthy pocket passer?

They might. That's always the problem/risk when you have QBs who can run into the open field.

Bill, I don't think they care if you are right or not, but I do think Johnson could eventually be that guy. They didn't bring him in to lead the band at halftime

I think it would have been good if they could have brought in another WR in the event Metcalf or even Austin got hurt. Let me tell you, they tried to do so, and maybe were closer than everybody might think. But it didn't work.

I got you in. As for DK, I think teams are seeing that Rodgers prefers him and he can do a lot of damage after he catches the ball, so defenses aren't going to give him the freedom to do so

I don't know that answer but I think their depth is pretty good. Not great, but good. You can't have great depth at every position. No team in the NFL does. Not possible

Gerry. Why make all these win now moves in the offseason like Rodgers then get conservative and worry about future late round picks at the deadline. That seems contradictory. Thoughts?

That's a good point. Maybe because they know they can't keep overhauling their roster every year. At some point, you have to go back to what you have always believed -- that the best way to build a roster is through the draft. Then supplement your 53-man with some free agents or trades.

Hi Gerry, i know we didn't want to overpay for a wr but Meyers and Shaheed deals seemed reasonable and a True number 2 could have done wonders for this offense. Do you feel like the steelers should have been more aggressive?

Two things: 1) Based on the way Arthur Smith is using and throwing to his tight ends, where would another WR play a lot of snaps in his offense; 2) Who says they liked either of those guys? Don't get me wrong, I'm not against adding a quality receiver, if for no other reason than as insurance in case DKM gets hurt. Maybe they liked another WR more. But there are reasons it didn't happen.

Basically, that's the reason. They are trying to protect their draft capital for a move in 2026

I think the Steelers believe he can come back. But sometimes players get second opinions from their own people and maybe their outlook isn't as positive. So not sure

Hey Gerry, Schefter reported the Steelers were the other team involved for trying to trade for Meyers from the raiders. Do you think the Steelers offered the same as Jacksonville and the raiders ultimately chose the Jags offer thinking they may finish worse than the Steelers this season? Or was it just the Steelers weren’t willing to offer what Jags put on the table?

Like I said earlier, don't believe everything you read. I'm sure they had talks about Meyers, but they talked to a lot of teams about a lot of possibilities. It's called doing your due diligence. But who's to say they didn't have another receiver in mind?
