OK kids, good morning. We'll get started shortly...

OK kids, let's get started...fire away!!

Rooney says he’s glad Tomlin is the head coach because he has them competitive every year? Isn’t that the definition of mediocre in today’s NFL? The league is designed so that nearly every team is competitive every year.
Gerry Dulac
9:58
In Rooney's defense, when he says competitive, he means competitive for the postseason and beyond. But I get your point.
History Repeats Itself
9:58
Hey Gerry.  Didn't AB originally start out as just a "pebble in a shoe"?
Gerry Dulac
9:59
Yes. Then he became a thorn in the side

9:59
Are you required to attend Tomlin’s press conferences? I could not sit through one of those endless word salads of nothingness.
Gerry Dulac
9:59
Required and paid to do so

Gerry, thank you for the chats. Curious from a transparency aspect - is Tomlin less transparent about player injuries and when they will return or more transparent than someone like Cowher was?  I know there's a chess match going on with not wanting an opponent to know when someone like Minkah may be coming back, but I wonder how much other teams follow and take away from opposing team interviews.
Gerry Dulac
10:00
He is much less transparent, even compared to other NFL coaches. As for Minkah, they are not expecting him to play, but the coach doesn't want the Packers to know that.

Gerry-  What is your opinion on the accuracy issue with 8?  Confidence?  Same issue at Pitt?  Offense as a whole is a mess?  WR not disciplined in route running?  Something else?
Gerry Dulac
10:03
I don't think accuracy is a by-product of anything else but the quarterback. Granted, WRs can run wrong routes or be lazy coming out of breaks, which affects accuracy (not to mention confidence). All that being said, Pickett has been really accurate in the second half of games, especially the fourth quarter. So there's that.

Finishing my question which inadvertently was sent before I finished.  If Belichick and all his lombardi trophies can be held to scrutiny, why can’t tomlin which seems to get a pass and has been pushed for possible coach of the year consideration.  Come on, like belichick, what have you done for me lately, MT?
Gerry Dulac
10:04
Now there's a perceptive chap

Morning Gerry. Do you see any changes after this season to how players are fined after the games? especially for plays that weren't even flagged? T.J Watt got fined $16,000 for a hit on Lawrence against the Jags that wasn't flagged and Warren has been losing his game checks a few times this year cause of post game fines.
Gerry Dulac
10:05
No I don't. Just because they weren't flagged during the game doesn't mean they won't get fined. As it should be.
Draft Issues
10:05
The Steelers drafts have been very poor recently (especially the first day).  What can be done to improve this?  Colbert and Cowher were magic together.  Colbert and Tomlin were not good.  It makes me think that Tomlin's influence is what has made the results worse.  I would imagine Tomlin has even more power and control with the new GM, especially since he played a role in hiring him.  Should Rooney tell Tomlin to back off and give Khan/Weidl more control of the draft?
Gerry Dulac
10:09
Colbert and Tomlin were fine I'd say -- Pouncey, Heyward, DeCastro, AB, Shazier, Watt, Tuitt, Lev Bell, JuJu, Dupree, to name a few. But, yes, sometimes the head coach here can have a lot of influence, sometimes not so much. Some teams don't even let the head coach have any say in the picks. The GM does all that.
Yates
10:09
Does Mykal get called up and RB get released?  RB from Pitt or one they picked up from Atlanta?
Gerry Dulac
10:09
No, why?
Eduardo
10:10
In all honesty Gerry, would you exercise Kenny’s 5th year option?
Gerry Dulac
10:10
Way too early to tell. More timely question: Will they pick up Najee's fifth-year option next year?
Yates
10:11
Can a leader on defense - Cam or 39 get through to 14 or do these issues normally not get handled across units?   Do you long for the drama less social media less days Gerry?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
In general, I long for the days of less social media.

Gerry, Tomlin poo-pooed the George Pickens situation. Do you think there was any internal discipline?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
No, but I'm sure there has been quite a few discussions with him.

Gerry, What did Chuks say or do to get himself benched?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
Honestly,. I don't know. But I will find out.
Bill
10:12
Assuming he does nothing significant the rest of the year in Miami, what kind of contract do you think “top three” wide receiver Chase Claypool would be offered at the end of the year?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
One year, vet minimum if he's lucky
Big Steel
10:12
Surprisingly, I like the way that Tomlin responded to the media about George Pickens. However, when a teammate doesn't congratulate you on a game winning TD----- that's still a problem. George knows all about Diontae's drought. A class teammate behaves very differently!
Gerry Dulac
10:13
Uh.... What was that adjective you used??

10:14
Hi Gerry, I don’t think it’s been talked about much, but the Steelers have been having a real tough time stopping two point conversions. I don’t believe they’ve stopped one this year, and they didn’t do thatt well last year as I remember.  Any thoughts on this? If it continues, teams will use it more against them.
Gerry Dulac
10:15
You're right, it's not talked about much because I don't think it's a worrisome issue, though I could be wrong. The Steelers are one of 11 teams who haven't stopped a two-point conversion this season. Last year they were 50 percent.

Are you checking all the players’ social media to see who they unfollow and such?  Seems a tough way to generate content
Gerry Dulac
10:16
Never have, never will. I don't care
Bill
10:16
Do you see the connection that whatever team Chase Claypool is on mostly loses games? Do you believe in "the curse of the Claypool"?
Gerry Dulac
10:16
No, I believe he is not a very good player or teammate
TheStandardisStability
10:16
Despite Tomlin’s indignant response about the sleepy starts wasn’t moving Canada downstairs an acknowledgment that in fact what happens early does affect the outcome?
Gerry Dulac
10:18
No, I think it means he needed to do something, anything, to get the offense going. Hey, we'll see going forward if that makes a difference or if it was just a one-game coincidence.
