OK kids, we're going to start our chat soon...or as soon as some of the connection issues get resolved.

Is it mathematically feasible for the Steelers to make the playoffs? Say, for example, they only lose one game.  Granted, all this is long shot fantasy land and- anyway - everyone seems to instead be shooting for a high draft pick.
Gerry Dulac
9:53
OK, I see some questions starting to sneak into the room, so let's go. And, to your question Gus, of course it is. If they run the table, that would be an 11-6 record, good enough I think for the postseason. If they lose one of the last eight, that would be 10-7, and that might still have a good chance of getting in. But, more importantly, I'm leaning toward your "fantasy land" comment, but I don't see that happening at all.

Do you attribute Highsmith's very solid performance on Sunday to the return of TJW?
Gerry Dulac
9:56
Well, let's see, five of his 8 1/2 sacks have come in the two games in which Watt has played. So, I would have to say undeniably, unequivocally, yes
Philippe

KP seems to progress week after week - To me, his decision making is the most improved aspect of his game but his accuracy at time seems concerning. What do you attribute this to? timing issues with his receivers? Does he simply need more playing time with them?
Gerry Dulac
10:00
I'm not so sure I agree with the decision-making part. If you're judging it based on a rookie scale, yes, perhaps. But if you're judging it from from a successful NFL QB scale, I'd say no. But I will say his quick decision-making is good, that is, when he knows where he wants to go and throws quickly. And, yes, he has been inaccurate at times, but most of the times he is fairly accurate. When he's not, I'm sure it's part of the rookie development -- not sure what he's looking at and being either too cautious or overly aggressive with his throws. I was glad to see him throw the ball away four or five times against the Saints, tho, and eliminate his interceptions.

When they had a QB the size of a linebacker they were unwilling or unable to run a QB sneak. Now they do it regularly and very well. Why?
Gerry Dulac
10:01
Because he chooses to call it, or is given the option to call it.
Philippe

The OL seems to have improved, especially in create some holes for the running backs... I thought Philadelphia was an improvement but also perhaps an aberration. But the Saints game is giving me hope that maybe they're figured something out... What is your take?
Gerry Dulac
10:02
I agree. We'll see if it continues, but they haven't rushed for this many yards in back to back games in 8 years, so something is clicking
Mercury

Will Harris break 1000 yds this season?
Gerry Dulac
10:02
His second half of the season needs to be like last year's second half if he's going to do so. I think the next couple games will provide you with the answer

Najee seemed to have a lot more success Sunday when Pickett was under center instead of the shotgun. Is it too much to ask for more of that, or should we expect more of Najee starting plays with a 12-15 yard handicap?
Gerry Dulac
10:04
There is no question Najee is better served with the QB under center, giving him a 3- to 4-yard running start before het gets the ball and allowing him to use his size and power to run downhill.

Hi Gerry. I know TJ likes the left side but any consideration to moving him to the right for a few plays per game?  This would help avoid constant double teams and make the offense prepare for more defensive alignments
Gerry Dulac
10:05
He does from time to time, even lines in the middle. but not often. I think it's fine to leave him be.

I wish Tomlin would now just use this year as a trail and error for what is most needed in the draft, not throwing games but just see what would be the best need to make a run next year
Gerry Dulac
10:06
NFL coaches aren't interested in next year, just this year. If they don't pay attention to this year and win games, there might not be a next year.
Mercury

Pickett seems very cool and confident, but does he come across.
Gerry Dulac
10:08
The rest of this question came in two parts and it should read "come across as cocky to you." And the answer is no, not at all. He is cool and confident, but not brash or cocky. That doesn't mean he doesn't have a bit of an internal edge. All successful QBs need a little but of that, even if you want to call it cocky

Did coach Cowher lose his mind or show his age when criticizing the Jeff Saturday hire?  Did he forget that an egomaniac reality TV Star was elected POTUS?
Gerry Dulac
10:09
He did not lose his mind, merely reflect what 99.9 percent of every NFL coach was thinking.

I think one of the more interesting decisions facing the new front office this offseason is what to do with Terrell Edmunds. I think he has played very well this season (downside, lack of splash plays) and is only 25 years old. Do you think they bring him back? If so what kind of deal/terms would he get? Do you thinks his play may have made him too expensive to bring back?
Gerry Dulac
10:10
I agree with you. It will be interesting to see what they do. Edmunds has actually played well since the middle of last season, even more so this year. I think it will be a dropoff at the position if they let him go and bring in someone else, keeping in mind they are not going to spend a lot of money at that position with what they already pay Minkah.

People seem to think the Steelers will draft an Edge if they get a high pick. Isn’t DL a more pressing need with the age of the starters?
Gerry Dulac
10:10
Yes. DL and OL
Nate from Fort Wayne

Do you see the Steelers playing either Trubisky or Rudolph the last few games to judge which one to keep as the backup for next season?  I Know Trubisky is under contract for next season but I don’t think he’d wanna stick around to be a backup after starting this season as the starter.
Gerry Dulac
10:11
Nope. The only way one of them will play is if there is an injury. And the only way Rudolph is going to play is if Pickett and Trubisky get hurt

Gerry-Josina Anderson reported that 1 of the longest tenured NFL head coaches could resign at the end of the year. Do you think its Mike Tomlin? Might the idea of Art Rooney telling him to shake up his offensive staff have him considering a TV gig? Possibly with his BFF Jay Glazer on Fox.
Gerry Dulac
10:12
Nope

What is up with both the Steelers and Bengals wearing color rush on Sunday?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
IDK Ed. Didn't know that. But I'm sure it was because the game was originally scheduled for prime time
EPS
10:13
why don't Tomlin just use this as a trial and error year and see what is needed next year to make this team competitive in an increasingly hard division
Gerry Dulac
10:13
Because he doesn't
Jim Bow Dean
10:13
Could Tomlin be in some hot water because Jack had no designation, but didn’t play because of injury?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
I'm not sure of the circumstances, but anything with curious injury reports is always a possibility

Gerry, I really like Kenny Pickett.  How do you rank Pickett’s top 4 qualities.  Curious where you rank his arm strength.  Thanks
Gerry Dulac
10:15
I do not put his arm strength among his top qualities

Gerry, Are we reading too much into a win over the Saints who are 3-7?
