Gerry Dulac's Steelers chat: 11.17.21

Hi Gerry, of the many frustrating elements of our offensive scheme are the "sideways" play - jet sweeps, bubble screens, etc. Seems to me that for those to be effective we need a solid, mobile line and receivers who are above average blockers. Sans those things, those calls seem high risk, low reward. What say you?
Gerry Dulac
11:32
To a degree, I agree. But a lot of times those throws are designed to bring the corners up to set up other throws. But, also, in today's NFL, look around the league, everybody (and I mean everybody) is making those types of quick throws because of the increased pressure.

Offensive line looking a little banged up... I wonder what shape David Decastro is in right now?
Gerry Dulac
11:33
I'll call him.

Who do these people think they are to question Stefan Tuitt, his mental and/or physical health or the Steelers organization on how this situation is being handled? NO ONE sitting on their iPhone at home has the right to his medical information as it relates to his knee, mind or anything else. They have absolutely no idea what they're even talking about and the arrogance or ignorance is amazing to me. Even if someone is a season ticket holder, it's STILL NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS! I'm tired of hearing about Brett Favre playing when his father passed. To each his own but I always thought it was shameful, not heroic. But again, that was between he, his family and the team. Rant over. Thanks.

Gerry:   Are you surprised at the number of active NFL players who did not know that there is only one overtime in an NFL game, and that the game could actually end in a tie ?
Gerry Dulac
11:33
Nothing surprises me, but, yes, that does a little.

I would be curious to know from somebody that played for both or with knowledge, if MT who played at W&M has more knowledge of calling the D than Keith Butler who made the calls as an ILB in the NFL?  - Thanks
Gerry Dulac
11:36
I don't think that matters at all. If that were the case, Jack Lambert would be a helluva defensive coordinator

Hi Gerry, on the live chat during Sunday’s game the PG host mentioned that Mason “made three throws that Ben could only dream about making”.
Did you see Mason making throws that Ben could only dream about making?
Gerry Dulac
11:36
Not one

Do you think that there is any way this team won’t collapse the rest of the way? They have too many starters underperforming and injuries to many key players. The schedule is daunting the rest of the way. Is there any reason for hope?
Gerry Dulac
11:37
There's always reason to hope. Did you think they would go five games in a row without a loss? But I would suggest you keep in mind the late-season collapses that have befallen the team each of the past three seasons

I am one of the more Patient fans but after stating this I think its time for Canada to Go for so many reasons. We would be much better off having Ben call the plays.
Gerry Dulac
11:38
Congrats, I think you're the first to actually call for him to be fired. And just nine games into the season, too.

If the Steeler's back-up QB's don't work out for 2022, is there one QB that another team has that would be worth dealing for ,such as Gardner Minshew?
Gerry Dulac
11:39
I sure hope not. C'mon, have you actually watched or looked at other backup QBs around the league?? If you have you wouldn't say that.

Curious where the people are that had Devin White and Devin Bush 1 and 1a now? Thanks
Gerry Dulac
11:39
Can fit 'em all into a telephone booth (if there were telephone booths anymore).

Hi Gerry, What would you have done in the final 16 seconds to set up the game winning fiend goal try?
Gerry Dulac
11:40
What they did, but the poor guy who doesn't drop anything fumbled. Oh well

Why is the run defense so awful? I mean, I have eyes, but I still can't understand how they allow career days to the Detroit Lions.
Gerry Dulac

I'm with ya there.

The NFL is the only league of the top 4 sports to allow ties.
Is it time to move on from them and either go back to a 15 min quarter or do some kind of Field Goal shootout from different yardage?
What would you do?
Gerry Dulac
11:41
It's also the only sport of the top four that is that physical and hard-hitting. This isn't Gladiator.
Andrew
11:41
Hi Gerry, being named after and  also a big fan of Andy Russell, should I hold out hope that he might make the HOF ?  Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
11:42
Good for you Andrew! But, alas, I think that time has passed.

Have you studied Mooooth's blocking this season? Despite his pass catch prowess, his blocking is horrific. How does one improve as a blocking tight end? Is it just time in the weight room or does he work with the new offensive live coach on technique?
Gerry Dulac
11:42
He was not brought it to be a blocker.

When is the last time the Steelers drafted a legit inside LB? Twenty years ago - Foote? Thanks

I have watched every Steelers game this season twice - live and then the coaches tape 48 hours after the game. If you did not know Devon Bush was a first round draft pick, the logical conclusion would be that he should NOT be in the NFL. Why do the Steelers insist on playing him? The draft pick is a sunk cost.
Gerry Dulac
11:43
My sympathies if you're watching some of these games twice.

After BB is done, the Steelers should have some $$$ to spend on free agents. I know the Rooneys are known to build the team through draft, but the Steelers must spend on free agents to remain competitive. What big name FAs do you see the Steelers targeting?
Gerry Dulac
11:44
I think their FA history has shown that is a wasted question.
Mr.305HitmanHeartner
11:44
The leaking of the Steelers' coaches' grievances with Haskin's pre-game routine strikes me as puerile and unprofessional. If they were so disturbed by his lack of focus in the pre-game, why not just cut him and move on?
Gerry Dulac
11:45
Your only gaffe is, nobody ever said it was the coaches. Otherwise......!!

If Tuitt returns sometime this season, how much could he contribute to the defense?
Gerry Dulac
11:46
It won't be the old Tuitt, if he does,
