Gerry Dulac's Steelers chat: 11.19.25

Good morning to all, let's get our chat started
Bill in LA

To me, the biggest difference between Aaron Rogers and Mason Rudolph was that Rogers looked agitated, unhappy, and very tense every time there was a close up shot of him. Mason looked relaxed and happy when we looked at him. Bottom line is Mason seemed to bring a fun positive energy to the team, the old Steelers team vibe. What if Mason plays Sunday and plays very well? Do they sit Rogers like they did Pickett for the rest of the season? Or does Tomlin lack the courage to do so because Rogers is a veteran future hall of famer?
Gerry Dulac
9:59
Bill, I think it's because Rodgers, with his gray, scruffy face, looks older and more intense, and maybe you mistake that for agitated, which he is not. What Mason brings is a confidence to the team because, let's not forget, he was their No. 1 quarterback through the entire offseason right up until mini-camp. And I don't think anyone on our planet would ever include Pickett's name in the same sentence as Rodgers' name.

Hi Gerry, any hope we can get some consistent production from and receiver not named Metcalf?  Is it a talent or game plan issue.
Gerry Dulac
10:00
I think it's a little of both, but I would mainly say game plan. Heck, it seems like inordinate attention to a receiver if he gets six targets. How about 13 or 14?

Gerry would the Steelers consider moving Broderick Jones to Left Guard and get on with finding another T. While he's improved, he's not very good. And what is with the Metcalf drops, he's making $30M & he's not one of those guys.
Gerry Dulac
10:01
No, the more likely move of a tackle to guard is Troy Fautanu. He is built like one and the Steelers considered that when they drafted him.

Thanks for the chats Gerry.  Our beloved Steelers have to be Vegas worst nightmare.  Show up one week fall asleep the next!  I disagree with the criticism of AS offense.  We seem to have bigger chunk plays, AR is spreading the ball around and the pass protection seems to be getting better.  Every drive isnt going to result in a TD.  When its rolling offense seems to have better flow...what say you
Gerry Dulac
10:02
I say I have no problem with Arthur Smith's offense except I'd like to see WRs get as much attention as the TEs.
Bill in LA
10:02
In my opinion, Darnell Washington is a special player with unique size and skills. He’s got one more year under contract. Do you predict the Steeler resign him this offseason, and what do you predict becomes of the tight end situation for next year as regards Smith and Muth?
Gerry Dulac
10:02
They will re-sign Darnell Washington
Bill in LA

So here is it, Justin Fields finally got benched by the Jets for being Justin Fields. Now all they have to go with is Tyrod Taylor. Do you think they wish they still had Darnold, Geno or Zac Wilson?
Gerry Dulac
10:03
I bet they wish they didn't guarantee Fields $30 million. But, then, that's why they're the Jets, the dysfunctional franchise of the NFL.

Gerry, thanks for the chats. How do you access the cornerback situation and who are you playing against the bears?
Gerry Dulac
10:04
Mike Tomlin said Darius Slay will start if he is cleared from concussion protocol. But I will say this -- it doesn't mean he will finish in that role.

2026 Mock Drafts have the Steelers taking either Alabama or South Carolina QB in the first round.  Will Howard did win a National Championship last year, has he been deemed a bust already along with our drafted RB?
Gerry Dulac
10:05
That's why they're mock drafts. They have no clue. Just like deeming a pair of rookies, 10 games into a season, busts.

I can’t imagine the Steelers aren’t just trying to create uncertainty for the Bears.  How, with a broken wrist would Rodgers not be a major ball security risk taking sacks under center, catching shotgun snaps, holding on under duress?  I just can’t see how he plays.
Gerry Dulac
10:06
I'm not going to argue with your observation Sam, especially the first part.

Miss me yet??

Nope

Hi Gerry:  Thanks for the chats.  Why wasn't roughing the passer called when 2 lineman fell on AR8 causing his wrist fracture?  Ridiculous when it was called on TJ90 after he fell on the side of Flacco after a pass............so inconsistent.
Gerry Dulac
10:07
TJ drove Flacco into the ground and fell on top of him, that's why he was penalized. Not the same situation.

Good morning Gerry! I went to the game Sunday & noticed on many plays that the Steelers would line up an extra defender (usually a LB) close to the line & directly across from Chase or Higgins & the cover CB would be at least 5 yards off the line. Chase & Higgins would either get a slight chip or would have to run around the LB, which I think threw off the timing of their pass patterns a little.  This defensive scheme seemed to work very well for the Steelers & should be a blueprint for other upcoming opponents with stud WR's.  Do you notice this as well & what's your take?
Gerry Dulac
10:08
To a degree, yes. What happened in the first meeting is the Steelers didn't get on the receivers at the line and disrupt their timing and routes. They did that this time and, well, you saw it -- it worked.

Good Morning Gerry, At the end of the day I see no difference between this Team and all the other Tomlin teams that finish a game or 2 above .500. Going Nowhere. Closer to it than I, what do you see?
Gerry Dulac
10:09
What I see are seven games remaining and we'll see what happens, though I fully get your point

Good morning Gerry.  Call me crazy or spoiled, but I can't get too excited about maybe going 10-7, sneaking into the playoffs and playing a quality team.  If we go 12- and 5 then I can get excited. That will mean we have beaten quality teams over the next 7 games that may change false hope into real hope.  How likely is my dream?
Gerry Dulac
10:10
Yeah, I don't think they're going 12-5. 11-6 at this point might still be dreaming. Tough road ahead

Hi Gerry:  Thanks again for the chats.   CB Dontae Jackson was truly horrible last year, missing tackles and poor pass defense.  This year with the Chargers he’s at the top of PFF scores and shut down the Steelers in LA, had an interception as well.  He sure is outplaying Slay-who gets twice his salary.  Was he hurt or a locker room problem with the Steelers in 2024?  What do you think changed?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
Well, I think your first sentence answers your last two. But I will point up he led the team with 5 ints.

Good morning Gerry.  I hope your day is great. Mount Washington is proven to be a weapon over the middle of the field. Why is it that they stopped going to him near the goal line?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
Maybe because the other team is watching for it because we have seen them do it in other games.
Farmtastic
10:12
Gerry, do you agree with the decision to start Slay again? Tomlins reasoning was a bit odd. I believe he implied that Pierre only had pass breakups because he was on the field. By that logic, every player at every position should have great stats in every metric pertaining to their position.
Gerry Dulac
10:12
That's just Tomlin being coy Tomlin. Slay may start but that doesn't mean he will play more than Pierre or even finish as the starter.

10:13
Gerry.  We have two 10+ million TE whose usage confuses me.  One hasn't lived up to the contract, while the other performs well when targeted.  Yet 88 sees less snaps almost every game.  Tell me what?
Gerry Dulac
10:13
IUPD, I don't get it either, honestly
Sal
10:13
Happy Wednesday Gerry! Why is that with the Bengals happens always something? They claimed we are a dirty organization. But it only happens with these folks
Gerry Dulac
10:14
I'm not sure your point

Ramsey talks about how much he enjoys the trash talking and of course Porter is cut from the mold as well.  I personally hate it and can't help but wonder if they don't invite the bad behaviors that result from it like we've seen last week. Let your play do the talking. Do you think Rooney cares about this, or at least the level these two take it to?
