Hello Gerry, Like you said, one of the biggest questions coming into the season was Tomlin keeping Canada as OC.  Obviously that was the wrong decision!!  It's time for the Steelers to play a more hands on roll on coaching hires and not just hiring coaches Tomlin is comfortable with.  Your thought on if this will happen?
Gerry Dulac
10:06
All I can tell you is Mike Tomlin is solely responsible for hiring and building his coaching staff, though every move made in the organization is subject to the approval of AR2.

I heard your interview on Weis' show and you sound a lot younger than you look. Just kidding, you offered a lot of insight as to what happened with Canada. Good interview. So, do you see any light at the end of the tunnel for the rest of the season? It just seems like a new era for Steeler football and maybe the talent can somehow show up and score.
Gerry Dulac

Funny, but your question sounds a lot older than your writing. That was my Timothee Chalamet voice, actually. Glad you could listen. To your question, that's what we're going to find out. But I don't think you're going to suddenly see some drastic change in the offensive production. However, I can't imagine it being any worse that what we've been watching.

Is Shaq Leonard a realistic possibility?
Gerry Dulac
10:10
I don't know. On paper, it looks like it would be a good addition, but there is a reason the Colts released him, and it sounds as though it is health related.

Gerry, the Steelers are in a good position to make the playoffs but it's still going to be an uphill climb.  Barring any injury, do you see Trubisky playing anytime soon if Pickett has another horrible game against Cincy?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
He should, though I'm not sure that would happen

Hi Gerry.  Yesterday you reported that it was the Rooney’s decision to fire Tomlin.  During Tomlin’s press conference yesterday he indicated several times that it was his decision, yet no one challenged him on that, or asked for any clarification.  Seems to me this is quite a newsworthy issue.  If, in fact, the decision came from the Rooneys, that was clearly an unusual step (first time firing a coordinator in season in a long time), with possible implications toward their thinking regarding Tomlin.  Yet no questions to Tomlin in the presser, trying to get the truth. What gives?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
It was unusual, yes, but it was needed.

Regarding Myles Jack, if you’re thinking about being retired you already retired. And in this case he was retired! Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
Agreed.

Do you know if  Matt Canada addressed the offense and the coaching staff prior to leaving the Steeler HC after Coach Tomlin's media announcement?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
No. The players were off yesterday so there was no group meeting or anything like that. I'm sure he might have said something to the other coaches in the building. Plus, he was told early yesterday morning, after he reported to the facility, long before the Steelers eventually released the news.

Gerry- thanks for the chat and Happy Thanksgiving. There seem to be conflicting reports on who fired Matt Canada (Tomlin or Rooney). Can you provide some further color or perspective?
Gerry Dulac
10:16
Thanx Pat. Don't need to. But appreciate your curiosity.

Can we put to rest the calls for Big Ben to take over as OC? (This is legit question...)
Gerry Dulac
10:18
Well, it is not a legit possibility being offered by those who would foolishly and idiotically think that could happen

No one expects much out of the rest of the season but the big question many fans seem to have is whether the nucleus of this roster means the team is on the ascent…..or is it just treading water?
Gerry Dulac
10:19
I think that's what we're going to find out. Their record suggests they are on the ascent. Their performance suggests they are treading water. They need to start swimming, not sink.

Hello Gerry. I know a lot of fans will be happy the MC move was made (including me, long time coming iñI think) But there is more to the ailments of the offense. I thought KP would be great, but I remember you not liking the QB selection on that draft (not KP per se, but the QB). What is out future at that position? Do you think he van become a real #1 QB with a real OC? Thanks for the amazing chats and love the humor!!! Vamos Steelers!!!
Gerry Dulac
10:22
Sergio, thank you for correctly clarifying what I have said all along. I think Kenny Pickett is a nice quarterback and a No. 1 type quarterback. But he has to show more before anyone can say he is the long-term solution. He is not Ben Roethlisberger, nor should anyone expect him to be such. And now, with a different coordinator, that will buy him one more year to show what he can be.

Hi Gerry,  Did it annoy you when Tomlin made a statement (probably false) that refuted your reporting, i.e. that he made the decision to fire Canada?  Do you see this as his need to save face himself?  Or is it better for the franchise to not appear to have a meddling owner even when most of us are aware that the Rooneys are far from meddling?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
No, not at all. He's allowed to say what he wants to say. He didn't challenge what was reported; he just said what he wanted to say.

Hi Gerry:  Thanks again for the chats.  Just curious, by what metric is Dan Moore at LT playing better than Chuks was at RT?  Moore is horrible according to PFF grades (bottom of the league in pass blocking) and the eye test.  He is a major contributor to Pickett’s rushed throws.  Do you believe the story Chuks said something to tee off Tomlin and lose his job?
Gerry Dulac
10:26
Well, for starters, I believe the story because I reported it, though I think you took a few liberties with how you portrayed it. That being said, I think Chuks is a good RT, and I'm not sure you can properly assess who is better at what position. I can tell you this -- the Steelers believe Broderick Jones is a huge reason for the run success they have enjoyed since he became the starter.

  1. What do you hear about AR2's involvement with the firing and potential frustration - is Tomlin's seat any warmer? 2. What is happening in the locker room in terms of confidence in Tomlin and Pickett? Thankx Gerry, appreciate your insights.
Gerry Dulac
10:28
I heard plenty about AR2's involvement in the OC firing. But I don't believe Tomlin's seat is any warmer. I will only think that if they fail to give him a contract extension at the end of the season, which is the time frame he typically gets an extension. And I don't think there is any lack of confidence in him in the locker room.

Surprise player so far___? Biggest disappointment ___?
Gerry Dulac
10:29
I would have said Kwon Alexander before he was injured. And DeMarvin Leal might be the biggest disappointment.

Hello Gerry . Happy Thanksgiving. I know I should be thankful on thanksgiving but I do not quite understand the 2 CEO arrangement for OC position . I understand that Faulkner will do the game planning and Sullivan the game calling but what if Sullivan does not call the game as planned ? Would it not lead to another friction within organization. Why not make Sullivan the full OC since he has been OC before and make Faulkner a secondary role in game planning . I understand that Faulkner wants to be an OC but Steelers are not “ Make  a wish foundation “ . Thank you very much
Gerry Dulac
10:30
Mike Sullivan will be involved in the game-planning, don't worry. And what you suggest is basically what it will be.

Tomlin stated, and often does, that he is only focused on the next game.  He never seems to look at the big picture and in the future.  Isn't part of his responsibility to set the team up for future/long term success too?  That type of tunnel vision seems to be good to have a winning regular season, but does it seem to be a good quality to build a team that has years of successful postseason runs?
Gerry Dulac
10:33
Trust me, he is well aware of the big picture, the "global perspective" he likes to call it. His tunnel vision, though, is appropriate because all he is doing is trying to keep his players focused on the immediate task at hand and not on anything that might happen going forward.

If the Rooneys let Tomlin pick the next OC then they deserve what they get. Tomlin has demonstrated he does not have that ability to choose a bright coach. Its plain to see.
Gerry Dulac
10:34
It will be Mike Tomlin's call .... with the boss's approval. Like anything that matters in the organization

Coach publicly stated he fired Matt Canada.  Your reporting yesterday was that it was ARii.  Do you still stand by your reporting of it being an owner fire?
Gerry Dulac

That what he said??

With some of the stuff coming out about (DK Sports) Matt C not communicating and a lot of players being frustrated, it seems that could definitely have affected Kenny's regression, Don't you think?
