OK kids, it's a brisk morning, so a good time to snuggle up by a warm fire for a chat. joy We'll get started in just a bit.

OK kids, let's get started. Go....!!

Do you feel the Steelers will target another cornerback in next years draft to pair with J. Porter, or more likely to go after an inside linebacker.
Gerry Dulac
9:58
I think they will target a CB in the draft, but not before a DL and ILB. I think they have their fingers crossed, though, that Corey Trice will help coming back from a season-ending injury.

Hi Gerry-   To make it to playoffs and create some noise what run yardage production will be required?  Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
9:58
The one they've had the past four games would work nicely -- 174 yards

Does MT send an even stronger message to DJ and not introduce him as a starter and sit him out for the first set of downs?  He would score points with Steelers Nation if he did.
Gerry Dulac
9:59
That's what he should do. His lack of public discipline -- heck, feign some anger -- does not always sit well.

What, if any, input  does Omar Kahn as GM have on a regular basis with the coaching staff and ownership.  Was he involved with the Canada decision and does he also have any input as to who dresses and plays on game day?
Gerry Dulac
10:00
No he does not. All that is up to Mike Tomlin, unless Art Rooney II wants to intervene (as we have seen).

Gerry, it’s only one game but does the offensive output on Sunday make Tomlin’s decision to keep Canada look even worse? At what point does Mr Rooney question Tomlin’s decision.
Gerry Dulac
10:01
For one game, yes it does.

Interesting game last week - looks like Tomlin finally listened to pretty smart guy named Einstein ("Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.").  Perhaps more important than the >400 yards was the dramatic time of possession victory by the Steelers (37-23).  What are your thoughts on that stat and its impact on the defense and its ability to hold Cincy to 222 net yards?
Gerry Dulac
10:02
I think not having Joe Burrow had a significant impact on Cincy's 222 yards. But I agree with your premise. The ability of the offense to control the ball, run the ball and keep the defense rested on the sideline was a big component.

Pickett is 14-9 (61%) and inexpensive.  Burrow is 29-22 (57%) and expensive.  What, if anything, should we conclude from these numbers?
Gerry Dulac
10:02
Nothing. Joe Burrow is an elite QB

Gerry:  when will the day and time of the Steeler-Colts game be announced?
Gerry Dulac
10:03
Maybe today, Friday at the latest. Looking like Saturday game

Trenton Thompson is giving me Mike Hilton vibes, a no-name afterthought who just keeps making splash plays every chance he gets. What is the opinion of him inside the Steelers organization?
Gerry Dulac
10:03
The opinion is they really like the way he has been playing and what he's been doing. His play Sunday turned the game around.

Pickett didn’t throw a touchdown but I thought that was his best game as a pro. It gave me a little hope that this team will put up more points down the stretch. What do you think?
Gerry Dulac
10:04
Agreed. Not sure if it was his best, but certainly one of them. But the lack of TDs -- both overall and him throwing them -- has to change.

While I agree that Johnson needs to answer to his teammates, why no punishment from the head coach?  Quitting in that manner is worthy of being released, but Tomlin lets it slide with receivers.  This is at least the 6th WR that got away with horrible behavior on his watch.  Yet an OL that does less is benched for the year because there is a good backup.  Is the double standard now the standard?

Pay the man!

Are they moving Pat Pete around more or are his snaps still primarily on the outside?
Gerry Dulac
10:05
He is moving around, but he is playing more on the outside again because Levi Wallace is not playing much at all.

Jon Gruden deactivated his #1 WR in 2003 for 6 games because he quit.  Tomlin puts his guy right back in the game.  We need a guy like Gruden to take over this team.  Heck, we need Gruden himself.  Do you think Art is ok with the passiveness of Tomlin compared to our previous coaches and coaches like Gruden?
Gerry Dulac
10:07
I don't know about any Gruden comparisons and I can't sit here and tell you that he is OK or not with watching that behavior from his WRs. But I can tell you Chuck Noll wouldn't tolerate that nonsense, nor would Bill Cowher

Mr D, Do you think Messrs Sullivan & Faulkner received significant pay raises for their additional responsibilities? Thank you for your chat time!
Gerry Dulac
10:08
I don't think so, not now at least. Probably that will be assessed after the season.

I thought the last 2 fg drives ended conservatively. They just hit a big play to Pickens at the Cincy 20. Two runs and an incompletion on 3rd down. I thought you keep attacking there. Maybe run, pass, pass
Gerry Dulac
10:08
Well, they were running the ball really well, so I didn't have a big problem with it.

Hi Gerry, first Pickens and now Johnson.  I've lost confidence in their ability to get their heads straight and become dominating receivers.  Do you see an increasing priority to take a wide receiver early in next year's draft?
Gerry Dulac
10:09
I do. Not the first round, maybe not even the second, though that wouldn't shock me. But I bet by round 3.

Good Morning Mr Dulac.  Really enjoy the chats.  Hines Ward is a semifinalist again for the Hall of Fame.  While I am a bit biased as a Steeler Fan in feeling  that he should be in the Hall of Fame based solely on his "stats", the debate about his credentials is strengthened by how he "played football".  The contrast between receivers today and Hines Ward can be emphasized my the much discussed Johnson's actions on the Warren fumble.  Hines would have never taken that play off.   I miss that type of a football player at the receiver position.
Gerry Dulac
10:10
No question about it. He is one of only 14 players with 1,000 career receptions and he changed how the position is played.

Gerry, what can the Steelers do to get better/quicker reviewing questionable calls like the DJ TD? They never seem to get those challenges right.
Gerry Dulac
10:12
I don't know that they never seem to get those right. I think the solution would be quicker replays in the coaches booth. I understand why stadiums don't always show replays on calls that would favor the visiting team.

If Canada didn’t let assistants help in the game planning how did Tomlin allow that?  Everyone’s work needs input and review no exceptions.  That’s how successful businesses are run.

Just another reason to move on from him.
