Ok kids, we will start our chat is about 10 minutes. So get ready.....
10:51
OK, kids, let's get started. BTW, it was brought to my attention that some chatters last week thought I was demeaning and condescending. They obviously have me mistaken for someone else.

Who gets shut down for the season first?  Ben or Najee?
Gerry Dulac
10:51
Neither. As long as they're healthy, they will play till the end.

Gerry I never thought I would ever know what it felt like to be a Brown or a Bengal fan. Can we really be this bad at everything, especially the coaching ? I understand the injuries, but not making any adjustments is unbelievable.
Gerry Dulac
10:52
The past three games have been tough to watch, save for the fourth quarter in LA.

Gerry: I don't know if this team wins again this year.  I see a 2 to 3 year rebuild ahead with needs at T, NT, QB, CB, SS and ILB.  Do you see the same?
Gerry Dulac
10:54
Trust me, they will win again. All I know is they need to pay attention to both lines of scrimmage high in the draft. Like, at the very top.

Gerry was it my eyes or was Ben especially bad Sunday ? Does he have injuries we don't know about or is he just finally worn out ?
Gerry Dulac
10:55
Ben did not play well Sunday. But his injuries are his injuries. He plays through them. But I suggest you go back and look at the two interceptions and see why his passes missed the mark. Pay particular attention to the offensive linemen.

Gary:  Thank you for the chats.  When do you think the Rooney's will hold MT accountable?  Starkey's article on Monday morning was very telling.  You can see him firing Butler but this is Tomlin's defense.  Wasn't Butler a student of Coach Le Beau?
Gerry Dulac
10:56
He is not going to fire Butler. Why would he? He calls the defensive signals because, yes, this is his defense. And Butler was a student of LeBeau.

Hello Gerry. Why didn't the Steelers spend Juju's money on the O-line? Even if he didn't get hurt, I think it would have been better money spent.
Gerry Dulac
10:56
I had no problem with them re-signing JuJu when they were able.

In all the years you’ve covered the team have they ever been this bad at the line of scrimmage on both sides?
Gerry Dulac
10:57
Nope. Terrible. Thank goodness for Cam Heyward.

Who was a better center Sean Mahan or Kendrick Green .
Gerry Dulac
10:59
Haha....now that's a question I didn't expect. Sean Mahan was Tomlin's first big free-agent signing. And not a very good one. They signed him to a five-year, $17 million contract and cut him a year later.

When in your opinion will Tomlin finally say let's see what we have in our back ups in key positions and make some changes. We are in desperate need in many positions in the off season and the way my beloved Steelers have been playing why not really see if we have anyone that can fill an area so they can have a better focus on free agents and the draft next year.

This is not a college program. He won't, and 99 percent of all NFL coaches wouldn't do it either. Their objective is to win each week, not get ready for next season. After all, for some coaches, there might not be a next year.

Good morning Gerry, was wondering if you listened to music today to get yourself fired up for today's Chat...Appreciate your hard work and dedication...

Hello Gerry! As always, thks for the chats and insights on our Steelers.  I have been a huge Ben fan and Tomlin backer, but I feel than we need some changes for next year. I know that if it ain't broke don't fix it worked for some years with MT, but now I feel that it is completely falling apart. What do you say on the issue? I know there wont be coaching changes, but what can they do?
Gerry Dulac
11:04
Well, you're right, there won't be a coaching change. But they need to address both lines of scrimmage and they need to do it both in free agency (with a top tier T or G) and the draft (DL with the 1st or 2nd pick). They haven't drafted a D-lineman higher than the fifth round since Stephon Tuitt was a second-round choice in 2014. And that's Isaiahh Loudermilk this year. That's why they have what they have.
Rob
11:04
Is it concerning then Ben and Coach T see separate faults? MT blames the O line and BR doesn't....It seems the finger pointing has begun inside the locker room, anyone involved in a team sport knows that is the beginning of the end....Your thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:06
There is no finger-pointing at all. Ben is not going to criticize the offensive line. After all, they are the people protecting him. That's like complaining at the drive-thru about the slow service and poor quality before you get your food. Not a good idea.

Hi Gerry.  Question: what do these players all have in common?  Tuitt, Vince Williams, Decastro and Ingram.  Answer:  the Steelers misread all of them.  There are probably more..  Tuitt was expected to play this year, Williams unexpectedly retired, Decastro's health unexpectedly ended his career and Ingram became disgruntled and was traded.  The Steelers' constant personnel issues seem to be at the heart of their decline, and some of them should have been anticipated and dealt with before crisis hit.  Rooney should take a hard look at how they anticipate and handle personnel matters.  Do you agree?
Gerry Dulac
11:06
I think you are on to something!

With 2 d-lineman out should they have looked early on to replace them instead of hoping backups could do the job. It seems to me that's the biggest problem in run stopping and getting push up the middle all year. You can blame the middle linebackers but they would look a lot better with quality linemen in front of them. Your thoughts.
Gerry Dulac
11:07
See earlier response about why the D-line is in the shape it is.

11:07
With every loss you still see people finding ways to blame Big Ben.  When is the Defense going to be held accountable for the decline of this team?  How many number-1 picks are over there, and why do they continue to decline?  Bush, Watt, Fitzpatrick, Edmunds, Cam, and Charlton are all number-ones. This is Tomlins D, so why does he get a seemingly free pass for this dumpster fire of a D?
Gerry Dulac
11:08
I think the defense IS being held accountable. Why do you think all those former Steelers are saying they suck and are ashamed of their lack of physical play. They are talking about the defense.

Do you believe there's anyway with the current offensive linemen and backups that they can have any consistency running the football this year?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
Nope. They are actually running it worse than they did last year after 11 games, and last year they had the worst running attack in the league.

Hey Gerry, What’s our old buddy Todd Haley up to these days? So glad we dropped the dink and dunk for the stink and stunk…..
Gerry Dulac

He's doing Sirius radio. And this offense is averaging six points fewer a game than Randy Fichtner's 2020 offense.

Gerry,MT's base D is the 2-whatever (i.e. whatever DB he wants to add - please don't say the base is 3-4). Prior to the injuries he got away with it because the 2 came from a rotation of Hayward, Alualu and Tuitt. With any two of those bigs and the 2 OLBs the Steelers had a ligit pass rush and could defend the run.Few teams can do that with a 4 man rush. Now MT thinks he can continue the 2-whatever D with the likes of Buggs, Laudermilk and so on. He hasn't and he can't. OCs see our line as something that can't pass rush and can't stop the run. I don't know if actually going to the 3-4 will wins games but it will stop the embarrassment. Your thoughts.
Gerry Dulac
11:12
I don't think it will make much difference for the main reason you suggested -- they don't have the quality players (other than Heyward) to make a difference. Oh, it might help them a little more against the run, but don't be fooled either -- teams have been gaining yards rushing even against their 3-4. The loss of Tuitt and Alualu has hurt them tremendously.

It’s December 1. Should we expect hell to be unleashed soon? Or hath hell frozen over this season?

Like Clark Griswold said in "Christmas Vacation" -- "Look around, Ellen, we're on the threshold of hell."
